Director’s

MESSAGE

This year, the American Library Association selected “Libraries=Strong Communities” as the theme for National Library Week (April 7-13). As a public library, our role is to serve those who live, work or play in Broward County (and beyond), to strengthen our community by offering access to the resources and opportunities that make life better for everyone in Broward. What is the real secret to building a strong community? People. It was people – over 4,000 of them - enjoying an amazing day of live art, music, books and fun that made our ArtLit Festival (held in January at Pompano Beach Library). It’s people, the writers and readers – who’ve spurred the growth of our own local literary community with events like our Local Authors Program, our upcoming “Tell Your Story. It’s Your Write” Literary Expo, the Director’s Book Club or the launch of BibiloBoard (new online tool for self-publishing). People, the community, are the “why” behind our “what.” They are the reason we’re expanding our Pop Up Library locations to provide our community access to library materials with or without a library card. People are the motivation behind the growth of library pilot programs that put cutting-edge 3D holographic content in the palm of your hand; that help the formerly incarcerated successfully transition into the community; and that assist veterans with everything they need to succeed in civilian life. In celebration of National Library Week 2019, I’d like to extend an invitation to join us in strengthening our community by exploring everything we have to offer. Visit a library location you’ve never been to. Attend one of our free events and learn something new. Sign up to volunteer at your local library. Read a genre or author that’s out of your comfort zone. Find your why and help us to continue to strengthen our Broward County community every day, in every way.

Among her other talents, Maly is multi-lingual, like her husband Elian, who recently signed up to study Spanish and Italian using the library’s free Rosetta Stone. Another favorite program are concerts presented by the Friends. Maly appreciates the NR/BC Library – and the library appreciates her!

MARCH/APRIL TITLE:

The Rooster Bar by John Grisham Mark, Todd, and Zola came to law school to change the world, to make it a better place. They all borrowed heavily to attend a third-tier, for-profit law school. When they learn that their school is a chain owned by a shady hedge-fund operator the three know they have been caught up in The Great Law School Scam.

Sincerely,

Kelvin Watson

Maly is a great asset to the library who uses her considerable computer skills to assist with the catalog. Although data entry is a departure from her former profession as a land development designer, she loves it and looks forward to contributing.
