The Shed is a newly opened art gallery in Broken Hill, a testament to cross-cultural collaboration, showcasing the talents of established artist Dirk Romeyn, who relocated from the Blue Mountains, alongside local Indigenous artist Brian Harris, a proud Barkandji man.
The gallery maintains its charming aesthetic through the creative use of reclaimed and recycled materials.
One of its standout features is a large public art mural created by Dirk, contributing to the growing collection of murals in Broken Hill, the first city in Australia to be heritage-listed
Visitors to The Shed will find a diverse array of artwork, including an impressive selection of paintings, drawings, prints, and woodwork. Handcrafted earrings, gift cards, and mugs also feature, alongside Indigenous artworks such as carved emu eggs, didgeridoos, boomerangs, sculptures, carved bowls, and clap sticks
The gallery's front sitting area offers views of Sturt Park, providing a welcoming place for visitors to unwind with an oldfashioned cuppa, for a gold coin donation This unique blend of art, culture, and hospitality makes The Shed a must-visit destination in Broken Hill

BIOGRAPHIES
Andrew developed an art practice when he was well into his 30s, while establishing himself as a medical practitioner He is largely self taught and has exhibited his work in various venues Experimenting with various media, he approaches well loved landscapes and familiar household objects in a contemplative, intuitive state of mind He finds through these subjects, often over many iterations and with varying levels of abstraction, a way to convey a connection to places and people, whilst separated from them
Arjen studied watercolour painting under Noel Ford at Australian National University, School of Art, Continuing Education from 2007 to 2009 He continues to paint with an advanced watercolour group in Canberra led by Lesley Wallington. Arjen is captivated by the endlessly fascinating art of image formation and colour development using waterborne pigments Angle of Incidence is a set of six works that capture the development of form in the landscape through light and shadow and the development of colour through atmospheric and surface scattering
Dirk currently resides in Broken Hill, though most of his life was spent in the scenic Blue Mountains Throughout his time in the Blue Mountains, Dirk exhibited work in both solo and group exhibitions. With decades of experience working with wood, Dirk has honed a unique craft, also exploring painting and drawing as a means of expressing his observations and artistic visions Nature, particularly trees, serves as a constant source of inspiration for Dirk, guiding much of his creative work. He is thrilled to share his latest exhibition alongside his talented brothers and brothers-in- law, in a space and town that he loves
HANSROMEYN BLUEMOUNTAINS
Hans was born into a creative family and raised in the Blue Mountains, where his strong appreciation of the beautiful natural environment was fostered. He has created artwork most of his life and exhibited and sold works at an exhibition in Bondi Pavilion (joined by his brothers), and more recently with Dirk at Gang Gang Gallery in Lithgow He currently works from his home studio in Woodford These latest works are inspired by observations in the Blue Mountains as well as a road trip to Broken Hill and Mutawindji National Park in 2023
Paul lives in Cairns His day job is soil scientist, but he also likes to sketch, paint, sculpt and carve from time to time He loves being absorbed in painting and drawing and is fascinated by the way they compel us to really see things You are looking at his first exhibition ever, and he is very happy to be in such good company This is a collection of people and places in Tropical Australia, Papua New Guinea and a few other locations north of here
