MEDICAL EQUIPMENT: Brookridge does have donated medical equipment that can be loaned to our residents. This equipment can be borrowed from the Clubhouse by contacting the pool monitor. Also, equipment can be donated to Brookridge by bringing it to the Clubhouse and speaking with a monitor.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS WORKSHOP Minutes of Tuesday, November 2,, 2021 Call to Order: 9:01 a.m. Out of respect, please turn off all cell phones & remove hats / Moment of Silence & Pledge of Allegiance Proof of Notice: The agenda was posted at the Administration office and Clubhouse, on the Brookridge website, and emailed to residents on October 29, 2021. - PROOF OF NOTICE ESTABLISHED. Proof of Quorum: President Foster, 1st Vice President Metcalf, 2nd Vice President Basteri, Treasurer Hoose, Secretary Stratton, were present. Proof of quorum established. Director Stratton was absent. Also Present: General Manager Carol Webster, Code Enforcement Captain Greg Schubert, Recording Secretary Arlene Ahrens, Facilities Manager Vincent Pizzo. 30 members names on sign in sheet. Taping Notice: Member(s) video/audio taping meeting: 1 Approval of Minutes: Board of Directors Workshop of October 5, 2021 – minutes stand as submitted. Correspondence: Letter from Patrona Turman – Activities Coordinator - requesting "The Annual Brookridge Expo/Senor Information Day. Motion by V. Stratton, seconded by Metcalf to approve Annual Brookridge Expo/Senior Information Day for January 26, 2022, from 10 am to 1 pm at the Clubhouse for Brookridge residents and allow outside vendors to be invited. All in favor (5-0). Letter from Anna Webster/Patrona Turman/Ladies of Brookridge requesting "Afternoon Tea". Motion by V. Stratton, seconded by Metcalf to approve Ladies of Brookridge to host "Afternoon Tea, on Saturday, January 29th from 2-5 pm. Also, use of the Clubhouse from 8 am to 6:30 pm, and working out of facilities personnel schedules so no overtime is incurred for this event. All in favor (5-0) Letter from Veterans Committee/Sandy Komst requesting to place boxes at the Administration office and Clubhouse for Marine's Corps Toys for Tots Program. Motion by Basteri, seconded by V. Stratton All in favor (5-0). President's Report: The new Code Enforcement truck now has the signs. When you vote for the budget, please make the right decision. Roads are being cleaned and looked at for drainage issues, Fiat Ave was this morning, other roads are being looked at as well. The tennis and pickleball courts are complete. There were also some trees cut at the Clubhouse. There will be a Town Hall meeting on November 4 at 2 pm. The roof at the Clubhouse is being worked on, there will be a Planning meeting as well. November 16th a Hernando County Employee will meet with Jerry, Carol, and the Advisory Committee regarding speeding and what can be done. General Manager Report: Please make sure you put your small green ballot envelope into the white mailing envelope before depositing it in the ballot box. We have been having email issues, the IT company is working on it. Unfinished Business: Motion by Metcalf, seconded by Basteri to appoint Thomas Freyman as a Unit Rep. Discussion followed. Vote taken – (4 for, 1 abstain - V. Stratton). Motion carried. Sworn in by President Foster. New Business: Motion by Metcalf, seconded by Hoose to appoint Susan Fiegel-Rapp as a Unit Rep. Vote taken (5-0). Motion carried. Sworn in by President Foster. Motion by Foster, seconded by V. Stratton to appoint Mary Sweeney as Chairperson of the Election Committee. Vote taken – (5-0). Motion by Foster, seconded by Metcalf to appoint Paul Campbell, Hope Campbell, Kay Dittmer, Beverly Epstein, Isabell Raad, Jan Silva, Thomas Freyman, Vivian Blair, Anna Webster, Barbara James, Michele Adams, Shirley Sentle, Patrick Sentle, Allice Gilliland, and Pat Cass. Vote taken – (5-0). Report of Directors: V. Stratton – Volunteers are needed for Friday night Bingo, see Ellie Colasanti if interested. Basteri – Veterans Day ceremony on November 11 begins at 9 am, Young Marines will be present, the Musicaires will be performing. Metcalf – resumes for Board of Directors closed on November 1. The nominating committee will be meeting on November 2 at 11 am. Beautification committee purchased new Christmas Trees. Congratulations to the two new Unit Reps. Hope and Paul Campbell will be handling the ballots. Foster – work continues at the RV Compound; the boats and landscape trailers are being moved around. The cameras are fully functional. V. Stratton – Social Dance on November 6. "At Large" will be performing. New Year's Eve party will be $60 for tickets, this includes a dinner by John Mason Caterers and Champagne Toast at Midnight. Foster – the mask mandate for BCPO properties is gone. There will be COVID booster shots at the Clubhouse on Thursday, November 4 from 10 am to 12 pm. Sponsored by Pinebrook Pharmacy. Member Comments: Gil Lanctot – Unit 4 – President of RV compound – he needs cooperation with people driving in the compound, people need to slow down. They have re-numbered some spots, please back in correctly, clean up your spots. Jackie McCabe – Unit 6 – Oak Hill Assisted Living with be at the Clubhouse on November 15th, lunch will be provided, please call Jackie if interested. Pam Ross – Unit 6 – there is a pickup truck that goes by her house speeding, something needs to be done. Tom Freyman – Unit 2 – Marine Corps Toys for Tots is a great program, the age of the children needing toys are 6-12. He has fliers also. Motion by V. Stratton, seconded by Metcalf to adjourn, 5-0. Treasurer Hoose was excused PROOF OF QUORUM ESTABLISHED. Also Present: General Manager Carol Webster, Code Enforcement Captain Greg Schubert, Recording Secretary Arlene Ahrens, Facilities Manager Vince Pizzo, Code Enforcement Lieutenant Mike Cope. Sign in sheet shows 44 members. Taping Notice: Member video/audio taping meeting: 1 Approval of Minutes: Approval of September 15, 2021, meeting minutes - minutes stand as submitted. Board Correspondence: Secretary Stratton read a letter from Deborah Burns regarding the Scavenger Hunt on Sunday, November 7. Registration is 2 pm and the cost is $5. President's Report: Foster – There is a town hall meeting on October 21 at 2 pm. The auditor will be at the clubhouse for a meeting on Tuesday, October 26 at 2 pm to answer questions regarding the audit. The signs for the new truck have been ordered. The issues with the drains and retention ponds are being addressed. Facilities Manager Vince Pizzo then gave an update on the clubhouse roof, tennis courts, fences and awnings. Treasurers Report: For September – read by 2nd Vice President Basteri Unfinished Business: 2022 Budget, 1st VP Metcalf explained that Florida has made the minimum wage $10 per hour which now increases the wage expense for Brookridge. There are a lot of expenses. Lucille DeGuire – Unit 4 inquired if the Board foresees an increase in HOA fees every year, President Foster told her yes. There was also discussion regarding Code Enforcement and the different shifts that are worked, most of the employees are in Code Enforcement (21), some are floaters, some are fill-ins. There was also discussion regarding the school gate, President Foster hopes to meet with the County Commissioner and School Board. New Business: Motion by Metcalf, seconded by Basteri to appoint Thomas Freyman as Unit Rep. Vote was 3-3 (R. Stratton, V. Stratton, Keller against). No vote. Beverly Epstein – Unit 6 and Unit Rep Chair – asked why wasn't Thomas Freyman approved? The Unit Reps are down 4 people due to three resignations and the passing of Vickie Wiser. Vickie's memorial is Monday, October 25 from 2-6 pm. Director Stratton then questioned Thomas Freyman about his health, citing the S.O.P.'s where it states that Unit Reps should be in good health and reasonable physical condition. 1st VP Metcalf told Director Stratton he was out of order. Thomas Freyman took the podium and explained his health issue. Director Stratton then left the front table and stood in the back of the room. After a few minutes, he returned to the front table. Report of Directors: Keller – started to read a letter that he had written and was told that it was time for committee reports, not personal letters. He then continued and was told the same thing. He then continued and gave his resignation from the board effective immediately, he then got up from the table and left the building. The members of the committee are all volunteers trying to make Brookridge look festive, and we hope to make the Christmas display bigger and better every year. As always, we count on donations to purchase reusable Poinsettias and replacing old lights. This year we spent over $400 on those items. We would like to express our special thanks to Nancy, our design coordinator; our volunteers (new and old); the kind fellows that erected the metal tree; the tall husbands we pulled out of cars and armchairs; the sister who donated unneeded lights and decorations; to all who donated money for poinsettias and net lights; and the person who gave us donuts. And thank you to the Brookridge Maintenance guys for all the work they did. We always welcome new volunteers, especially those who have a love for gardening, knowledge of Florida plants and landscaping, or those who would just like something more to do. Brookridge is a deed restricted community and as such we have many governing documents. One of these documents is the Architectural Control Guidelines. These Guidelines let homeowners know what can and cannot be done to the exterior of a home. The homeowner must fill out an ACC application prior to the start of any work. The ACC applications are available at the main office Monday through Friday 8:30am till 4:00pm. The ACC Committee meets on the second and fourth Mondays of every month at 9:00am. Many projects may also require a Hernando County Building permit. An ACC approval by Brookridge does not override the county permit, both may be required and it is the homeowner's responsibility to obtain the county permit. Please contact Code Enforcement at 596-0696 prior to the start of ANY project on the exterior of the home or surrounding property

COMPOUND by Gil Lanctot The February walk-thru will be on February 9, 2022 at 10:00 am. The walk-thru consist of checking up-to-date registration, vehicles condition and make sure they are legally parked in compound. All units in the compound need an up-to-date plate, sticker and decal affixed to said unit. The exemption is the two-wheel tow dolly do not need a plate unless the state of registration requires it. The tow dolly will be stored on the same lot as the towing unit. It is the responsibility of the owners to maintain the plates, stickers and decals to said vehicles. NOT THE OFFICE!!!!!!! BROOKRIDGE CERT Our February meeting of this year for Brookridge CERT will be February 2nd the first Wednesday at 10:00 am. (2/02/2022). Members of CERT will be discussing what needs to be done to rebuild the CERT group to prepare Brookridge CERT for any required emergency activities in the coming year. STAMPS FOR THE WOUNDED Stamps for the Wounded (SFTW) is an organization dedicated to providing comfort and stimulating activities for U.S. veterans that are wounded, ill or isolated. SFTW has been helping U.S. veterans since 1943. To serve our veterans, we rely on donations of postage stamps, U.S. Postage stamps, and cash donations. If you would like to participate in this project—save the stamps from mail that you receive (Just cut the stamp off the envelope), buy stamps or donate cash. BROOKRIDGE COLLECTIONS If you would like to help, please collect stamps from your mail, bring them to the Clubhouse where there is a container on a cart in the South Hall. No automobiles, please. Pre-Registration will be held Thursday 2/24 and Monday 3/1 from 10 to noon in the south hall. Each hand is $5. Didn't we have fun at our January meeting? Our “Who Is That Baby?” contest was a hoot. We have changed over the years but let us not forget the child in all of us. Because this article had to go to press before our “Swing Into Spring Tea”-details on this event will be forthcoming in the March issue of the News & Views. At our February 21st meeting a representative from the Dawn Center – A shelter for victims of domestic violence, will provide information about its purpose, goals and needs. Please attend if you can. This is a great opportunity for the Ladies of Brookridge to pay it forward. Some of our gentlemen friends have expressed a desire to be included in some of our activities without having to don wigs and dresses. Our dear friend, Carole was a huge part of the Brookridge Community. She was on the BCPO Board, ran the Exercise Class and Weight Control Program for years. She organized and attended all Holiday Parties at the Clubhouse. She loved being part of all the Parades as well. Carole loved going to her Red Hat Society meetings. Some of her favorite interesting stories were about the time she worked for the Lt. Governor in Boston and rubbing elbows with some famous people. She loved her pets and always had a dog or cat that she adopted over the years. She was a notary and had many stories of her adventures presiding over numerous weddings. She spoke highly of the mother (who passed away at a very young age), father and brother & daughter-in law Pat, her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and cousins. Carole was proud of her Italian heritage and always corrected us if we said Italian words without the correct accent, Ha-ha! We loved her very much as well as do many, many other friends, family members. We will miss our Feisty Italian Friend. May she Rest in Peace. Jane & Dave Halderman

ALL STARS ENTERTAINMENT by Linda Rogers
Election of officers for the next season took place in January. Congratulations to Mike Garritano-President, and Linda Rogers-Treasurer. Sandy and Bill Lewis will continue to hold the Ticket Master position. Bob Dunn will again oversee Share-the-Wealth. And a special thank you goes to Bev Epstein for updating the bulletin board each month. Our seating chart remains the same, food and drink will be allowed as it has in the past. We will comply with all Florida, Hernando, and BCPO rules as they change according to our ongoing situation with COVID and its variations. Due to COVID and the lack of an entire season without work, performers have increased their fees. In turn, sadly, we have had to increase our membership dues. Our charge has been $5.00 per show for over 20 years, but for the next season beginning in October 2022, the price will increase to $7.00 per ticket. Ticket sales will begin in March. Look for the flyers to renew your seats at tables and chairs at the February and March shows. And don't forget to treat your Valentine to a double-header show this month! We will have a ventriloquist and a country western singer on our stage on February 7th. Naomi Bristow hails from Ontario and will delight us with some award winning yodeling along with the music of Leann Rimes, Dolly Parton, and Loretta Lynn. Opening for her is the comedy of Mark Merchant and his troupe of hilarious, life-like dummies. In March, we will host Johnny Counterfeit, so mark your calendars!

"Kings & Queens" play on Mondays at 2:00 PM, please be at the club by 1:30 PM. Kings & Queens is a group of couples that play 9 holes of golf Monday afternoons alternate shot format for the twosome. If you don't have a male/female partner, you may play as 2 ladies or 2 gents. If you haven't played yet, it might be a great way to meet your fellow golfers. This is a fun group. I'm sure you will enjoy it, but don't be too serious, as it is meant to be fun while enjoying our golf course. Newcomers are always welcome. The cost to play is $1.00 per couple. All money is returned to the winners. It is not necessary to sign up any day, just come to the club ready to play golf. Looking forward to seeing you Monday afternoons!

This year we will play at 8:00 in the morning, then at noon treat ourselves and our sweethearts and guests to lunch right on the courts, or possibly in the gazebo. The Tennis Club is simply a group of people who enjoy playing the game. We have a different group each day, depending on who shows up. There are no assigned partners. We try to arrange it so that we have equally skilled players on each side. We almost always play doubles, but sometimes you may see some guests who want to give singles a try. You know, the younger ones. Sunday is the only morning you won't find us on the courts from 8:00 am till 10:00 am. It would be great to see some new faces! All skill levels are welcome.

The beginners are doing some great pieces. I really don't call them beginner's after they finish their first piece. Everyone enjoys what they are doing, and we all have a great time. Classes are Fridays & Saturdays from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm you can come & go any time within those hours. There is a fee to join, but that includes all paints, brushes, glazes, sealers, coffee, water, snacks. We now are starting to do painting that has to be fired. Remember when you were young and you learned the 3 “R's”—Readin, Ritin & Rimetic? Here in the Weight Control Class, we have a few more “R's” that help with our weight loss and they are: Remove, Replace, Reduce, Relatives, Refrigerator, Restaurant, Refuse, Recycle and Remember.
You have over 600 muscles that move your skeleton. Big muscles produce the most power when they tighten. They're good for things like running or walking. Small muscles are better for tasks like threading a needle. Moving your muscles not only helps you feel stronger but improves your overall health in the long run. For example, exercise can keep your bones sturdy. When we exercise, we tighten our muscles to get our bones to do what we want them to do. This makes our bones denser and can prevent osteoporosis.
When you have a weight problem, you can relate all the “R's” of weight control, come to our class and see it, it will work for you.
Our class is for Brookridge residents and their houseguests (Sorry, no children). The cost is fifty cents per class and the first class is free! Class starts at 8:30 am and runs to 9:30 am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Classes start with low impact aerobics followed by stretch and tone; weights; and either mats or chairs. The class ends with a balance circle. Weights and mats are available if you don't have your own. Come have fun with us!

We are a “Sewing for Charity” group and welcome everyone at our workshop every Thursday, 9:00 am -11:00 am in Room D at the clubhouse. If you prefer to do our projects at home, it is perfectly okay. We are still in need of Christmas fabric, 2 yards of fleece, 1” elastic, ¾” sew-on Velcro, clean sheets and pillowcases for hospice gowns and bibs. Finished items are furnished free to various organizations and anyone in Brookridge who has a need. CRAFTY STITCHERS STOCKING CAPS NEEDED!! If you can knit or crochet stop by the Crafty Stitchers any Tuesday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and pick up some free yarn and a pattern. A local church is looking for stocking caps and mittens. We have the yarn, we need YOU! Drop off when you are finished. Or stop and get some yarn and stay and knit and crochet along with our group. Newcomers are always welcome. Lots of tables to spread out and work on a project or even bring your sewing machine. Great if you have limited space at home. Crafty Stitchers is a free group of craft minded Brookridge friends who get together to share projects, come up with new ideas and help out our community. Donations of yarn and fabric are also welcome. If you like sewing, needle work, painting, pottery, wood working, photography, any type of craft.
