IPPSA U15 MATCH RESULTS

Brookhurst Participates in IPPSA U-15 Basketball

GAME 1

On 20th May our young ballers from Kiserian and Lavington campuses took to the court at Agha Khan Academy to play for the under 15 girls’ basketball tournament. Lavington Campus were the 2022 champions prior to the games. Despite the fact our teams had a short preparation window for the competition they were able to put up great performances.

Kiserian and Lavington campuses came out on top of their respective pools. Kiserian campus went on to beat Crawford International School in the next round. The Kiserian team's journey fell short at the hands of Light International School. Light International School finished with 5 points in the log with Brookhurst trailing them with 4 points.

Lavington campus were strong contenders as they fought on as 2022 champions. Their games demanded the respect of their competitors as they had a fast paced offense and highly responsive defense. Brookhurst Lavington dispensed of Naisula School and Jaffery Academy. The team's journey ended at the hands of the eventual champions Cornerstone Academy. Both teams vow to come back and win back what's theirs next year.

CHARACTER DAY @ BROOKHURST LAVINGTON For most preparatory schools one day is set aside to participate in the tradition of Literary Character Day. Students and teachers dress up as their favorite comical, literary or historical figure – whether hero, heroine, protagonist, antagonist, prop, or event – they are all represented. Brookhurst Lavington celebrated Character Day 2023 in style. We had so many superheroes that we were worried Gotham and Metropolis would call us . The students were so engaged and had a lot of fun especially during film screening. We cannot wait for the next Character Day to pop up next year.

PRAYER DAY AT BROOKHURST KISERIAN On 1st May the Kiserian family came together to pray for the candidates who were sitting for their papers from May to July 2023. The students showed great unison and passion for the event as they sang amazing songs and even got to get guidance from the speakers of the day.

Speakers the Director’s representative, Angel Waithera, a parent at the school and an aeronautical engineer by profession who shared her story of how she made it in China and on to her career path. There were also pieces of advice from the school counsellor, Ms. Ann and not forgetting the people who really blessed us with the spiritual part: the pastor and our ever-present Sheikh who blessed us with sweet words and also from our principal and deputy along with some of the parents who had come for the event.

As we wait for the results, we believe the students will be celebrating when time comes.

I am never in control of what happens around me but I am in control of what happens within me.

Class Trip To KEMRI

Having the principal as one of their teachers in biology and science related studies came in quite well for the aspiring doctors and people in the field as they got a chance to go on and learn a little bit more about what they would like to do in their future and get hands on experience on the same. They enjoyed their trip and even had the chance to visit more than one space.

Trip To Paradise Lost On 22nd May our year 10 students had a fun trip to paradise lost.

Here they found out how the Mau Mau used to live in the caves as they plotted their attacks back in the day. It was quite the day as the students seemed to overcome some of their fears together as a class and an easy way to experience new things together as well like feeding the ostriches which was fascinating to them. This was also a good space for the students to catch up with nature and learnt how to row boats among other things.

Class Trip To Two Rivers Mall The middle school students also took the modern approach to having a fun time and got a chance to visit Two Rivers Mall, a place filled with fun activities ranging from outdoor activity to indoor activities. The start was always the Ferris wheel or also known as ‘the Eye of Kenya’ it gives a view of the city’s skyline from the top and its quite the experience for the people who get to experience.

The other rides were equally fun for the students who did not seem to have trouble enjoying themselves. Some even got to learn new things in science specifically the forces and how they apply to the rides and also the levers and pulleys at work to make the rides work.

INTER HOUSE

Games @ BIS Lavington On Wednesday 31st May Brookhurst International School Lavington held its Interhouse Games. The games involved all our classes from Year 1 to A-Level students. We were excited to see each house fight to ensure they won every competition. The teachers were also involved as both referees and participants.

Events included hot potato races, sprints, running blocks, fill the bottle task and tag of wars. We congratulate all the winners and participants as well as our impressive teaching staff for organizing the events.

On 17th May 2023 our students had a day at the polls and most of the contestants had been rallying up numbers building up to the day. The contestants finally had their manifestos presented and it was then time for the students to choose their leaders for the next year. At the end of it all the following were elected as leaders for the year: for the library, Miguel Thomas & Stephanie Kabura, for music we had, Justine Njuguna & Liberty Lucas, for ICT we had Isaac Nagila & Ivan Will, for events we had Bridgette Wanjiru & Abigail Kinyua, for the environment we had Leo Iguri, for entertainment we had John Mahihu & Jeremy Ador, for the dining hall we had Lydia Rampei & Gift Renee, for boys sports we had Shawn Masibo & Shane Wangwe, for girls sports we had Hailey Kamau and Abby Wandia, for the girls dorm we had Patience Sarange & Gavina Warukira, for the boys dorm we had Daniel Vasili, for the post of deputy girls president we had Nikisha Kamau and Kristina Kwitsegeste and finally the school president Caleb Sameri.

CAREER DAY

@ BIS Lavington

This term we organized a Career Theme Day where parents from various industries were invited to share their professional experiences with the students. The students had the opportunity to also dress according to their diverse career choices. This engaging event opened the doors of opportunity and knowledge for our students, igniting their curiosity and broadening their understanding of the world beyond the classroom. The event brought to the limelight the power of individuality, dreams and creativity.

Career Theme Day provided an invaluable platform for us to explore a multitude of professions. Each parent who volunteered to speak brought their unique expertise, giving us a glimpse into their world. From doctors to engineers, media professionals to entrepreneurs, the diverse range of careers showcased inspired our students to dream bigger and consider possibilities they had never imagined. It was remarkable to witness the passion and enthusiasm radiating from each speaker, which further inspired our students’ ambitions and opened their minds to the vast array of opportunities available to them.

The Career Theme Day incorporated Career Dress Up Day. This provided a platform for our students to step into the shoes of their future selves.

Each student's chosen attire reflected their desired career path, ranging from doctors and engineers to artists and lawyers. This creative display provided the students with an opportunity to manifest their dreams and share them with their peers, teachers and parents. The vibrant energy that filled the hallways was infectious, inspiring every student to dream bigger and embrace the possibilities that lie ahead.
