We are immensely proud of our World Scholars' Cup (WSC) team for attaining a great medal haul and qualifying for the next global round to be held at Yale. We want to commend our amazing educators for preparing, mentoring and caring for our students as they participated in the competition. You all made us PROUD.

#WEAREBROOKHURST

World Scholar’s cup founded by Daniel Berdichevsky, first took place in Korea in 2007: a small regional tournament hosted by Hankuk Academy of foreign studies The first “global” round followed weeks later bringing together students from Korea, Singapore and the United States.

The idea behind World Scholar’s cup was to create something different than traditional academic competitions; an enriching opportunity that motivated students not just to demonstrate their existing strengths but to discover new ones.

The 2023 World Scholar’s cup global round Doha had teams participating from over 26 different countries with nearly 2000 delegates. The 2023 edition was Brookhurst International School's second participation in the global round Brookhurst qualified in 2022 as winners of World Scholar's Nairobi round and in 2023 as a top 5 finisher

The theme for the 2023 global round was ‘Reconstructing the past’. The first program was the Opening ceremony where delegates were welcomed and given a schedule on how the round would continue to unfold during the week

The teams participated in the following events:

The scavenger hunt- This is where delegates from different schools and countries were put together to complete tasks, a program meant for the delegates to get to know each other.

The Scholar’s challenge- An individual Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) and general knowledge quizzes that assessed each participant

The collaborative writing challenge- A team based essay writing challenge.

The debate tournament- An academic debating style tournament focused on clear argumentation of ideas on related subject fields

During the second night there was a cultural night where the delegates got to where and show off their culture The Brookhurst students stood out with their cultural wear and awesome giveaways for the other participants. The students participated in the Scholar's bowl on the third day of the competition. The competition was a team buzzer round where all the teams participated The night brought on the Scholar's Ball, students dressed in formal attire and engaged in dances. The students made numerous friends along the way.

The closing ceremony was momentous for our students as the officially received their awards and were informed they had qualified for the next round to be held at Yale University in November 2023. The next round known as the Tournament of Champions is a testament to the amazing performances by our students in Doha. Brookhurst students stood up to the challenge and the medals are a reflection of their efforts Junior Team: 8 Gold Medals, 14 Silver Medals Senior Team: 22 Gold Medals, 28 Silver Medals

The following day, our students were taken for an exhilarating desert safari, a cool beach safari later in the evening and a classic city tour the next morning Most students were able to create friends and establish networks among the countries involved but most importantly the students had fun. In a nutshell, the experience as a whole was inspiring, eye opening and informative.

Congratulations!
