Student Assessment Cycle Student assessment at Brookhurst is done in through engagement in work that is both practical and theoretical: At Brookhurst, our assessment cycle serves 3 main purposes: • It indicates whether there has been comprehension and application of the content that's been taught. • It aids us in gauging the progress of students over time. • It allows administration to audit the quality of teaching. There was a time when „assessment‟ really meant „tests‟, but today schools use a wide range of methods to assess student performance. Formal tests are still used, but teachers also use class work, research projects, field trips, practical work, discussions, role play and oral work to make assessments of student progress. Assessments are recorded in teachers‟ mark books, and students are awarded an overall level or grade in each subject every term. These are then used to develop an academic profile for every student that gives us an opportunity to ensure that each student is achieving his/her academic potential. Formal written reports are given to parents at parent/teacher consultations at the end of each term.
WHAT TALENTS DOES BIS ENHANCE? We believe that all our students have gifts and talents to develop and that where these are exceptional, they should be fostered and encouraged in special ways. All teachers work to identify talents in students and provide a range of special targeted activities for them including: master classes; clubs and educational visits. These may be tailored to the particular strengths of individuals or groups. Our students are monitored closely by our Student Coordinators to ensure that they achieve the very highest grades and are prepared for the next stage of their education and beyond.
