KIOSK DESIGN LOTUS TEA

In this group project were tasked with designing a cutural kiosk within the Oculus transport Center. It’s accessible to near by pedestrian towers and acts as a public gathering space.The Port Authority Trans Hudson (PATH) rail system and multiple New York City subway trains can be access through this center. For its long history within newyork, we wanted to represent the estimated 628,763 ethnic chiense resisidence of newyork.

Since the start of the pandemic unjust discriminated has been seen through Chinese community throughout the world. To build and strengthen relationships with the many Chinese Communities throughout New York, it is the chosen culture for this kiosk. Patterns seen throughout their history will be used within the design of this space, in both spatial planning, furniture and materials.

The word prosperity plays a huge part in the design. The condition of being successful or thriving is what we wish upon all the patrons. It is the meaning of the Chinese pattern called Kai which serves inspiration in the floor plan, as well being a meaning of the dominant color of the space, blue.

Inspiration pulled from both traditional and modern Chinese design will act to will be implemented to bring an immediate visual connection. Geometry and symmetry will be heavily seen throughout the space, drawing visuals from many Chinese patterns. Seating arrangements and spaces will be allotted, where travelers can stop for a rest, grab a bite to eat, or meet with others. The balance of the design will create a calming experience in a busy city.
