University of Waterloo School of Architecture 2021-2024
Hi, I’m Brooke!
I’m currently in my third year at the University of Waterloo, School of Architecture.
My recent work expereince has been with residential design but I am also very interested in the public side of architecture and how community spaces play an integral role in connecting the city.
Design should not be a rigid process, but instead, a prospect for flexibility and unrestricted creativity. I am motivated to continue on this journey in architecture because each project brings opportunities to learn something new.

Brief
Design a block of affordable housing that services a specific user group. Develop the urban spaces in and around your buldings so that they are thoughtfully integrated throughout the entire site.
Design
After thourough studies on intentional communities for unhoused people, the Rockway Golf Course in Kitchener, Waterloo was re-designed to create accessible transitional housing. The site has a very unique landscape complete with winding paths, sloping terrain and distinct fairways lined with trees. This precipitated an organic cross-road design following the topography, where all the built form can exist on the fairways, therefore preserving the trees.

Brief
Design deeply affordable mid-rise housing in the Galt Community Land Trust.
Design
The revitalization of this empty lot seeks to combat the crisis of housing alienation. By embracing the residential community of Cambridge and providing a variety of services for all ages, this apartment building blurs the line between the surrounding residential population and the tenants on the site. With a focus on creating affordable housing for families and senior citizens, this apartment complex becomes a home that prioritizes nature, creativity and social interaction.
Design a lodge on the French River that integrates thoughtfully into the site.
Design
Concentrated along the mouth of Pine Cove, this youth camp and education centre focuses on learning through exposure to nature. Through observation of surrounding species and appreciation of the natural world, opportunities arise for children to experience the site and with it, the complex relations that flow.
Design a public library in Toronto with an additional “plus program.”
Design
Situated on an island in a busy downtown intersection of King St E, Queen St E and River St, this building is a hub for passersby. In addition to being a spacious library, the building is fully equipped with a detached bicycle repair shop on the ground floor. This centre invites pedestrians inside to explore or simply to use the paths as an alternate circulation route.
Programs Used
Rhinoceros 3D, Adobe Illustator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Enscape 3D
The angular site acts as an island amongst traffic.
The site has a downward slope with an overpass continuing above.
This unique circumstance precipitated a building shape that mimics the site’s boundaries and is “pulled from the earth”, creating two cores.

Riverdale Bridge
In collaboration with Agnes Mau
First Year 2022 ~ 1B Building Construction 2
Supervisor : Terri Boake
Brief
Design a ‘bridge to a view’ using primarily steel to be submitted to The Canadian Institute of Steel Construction Student Design Competition.
Design
Bridging the gap between residential streets and the urban landscape of Toronto, the Riverdale Bridge is a functional showcase element, providing views of both the cityscape and pockets of greenery. Connecting two sides of the Riverdale Park, the bridge offers more than just a route to the downtown core. This busy site allows the opportunity for a journey which praises curiosity and urges visitors to spend time on the bridge to survey their surroundings.
