LACKEY LIVESTOCK
Offering a guaranteed Top 5 pick in this year’s Lackey Livestock barrow lottery
Last year we tried something different, and we couldn’t be more pleased with how it turned out. At the beginning of July people can enter into our lottery, which will consist of 40 total picks of the barrow prospects in our May group of pigs. There are two tiers. The first 25 picks are a $6,500 buy in and the next 15 are $3,500. On the evening of Saturday, July 29th, we will gather on the patio at our place and will draw lottery balls for everyone’s placing in the draft the next day. For our lot in TPPA’s Certified Texas Best Sale, we are offering a guaranteed spot to have a top 5 pick in this year’s lottery. The winner of this lot will draw at the beginning of the lottery to see where they fall in the Top 5. The purchase price of this lot will be the final cost of your spot in the Top 5. No additional costs will be required. From then on, we will continue to draw the rest of the picks for the remainder of the lottery!
Last year’s event was wildly successful with numerous winners coming out of the sale. Those included:
• Champion Dark Cross, San Antonio
• Champion Hamp, Fort Worth
• Reserve Champion Heavy Cross, Fort Worth
• Champion Middleweight Hamp, San Antonio
• 3rd Overall Lightweight Cross, Denver
• 3rd Overall Heavyweight Cross, Denver
• 4th Overall Heavyweight Cross, Denver And quite a few placing and sale making barrows.

Their mother is the Guyer gilt from two summers ago that was Grand Overall at The Recovery, Third Overall at the Exposition, and Fourth Overall at NJSS in Louisville. Their Grandmother is a foundation sow in Abernathy that recently just had the Champion and Reserve WOPB Barrows at Rodeo Austin ‘23 also!

Pick of gilts out of the first June group
We want to start by saying thank you to the TPPA for working hard to give us and our fellow breeders another platform to market our livestock, and more importantly always inventing ways to support and give opportunities to the youth of Texas!
We did not take this consignment lightly, and honestly the only way I like to offer gilts of this quality is through a setting like this, usually because an event such as this calls for something you aren’t necessarily comfortable seeing leave the farm. This lot gives the buyer the chance to come in and select their choice out of all the gilts born in this first of June Group. The set of females in this set stem from the heart of the sow families we are building around here in Amarillo. I would say there is a healthy balance between proven sows and promising gilts that make up this group of sows.
Look through the breeding list in this lot, they are here and on the ground and I can honestly say I have a tremendous amount of faith in these and it will be hard to let any one of them go.
*All females farrowed the first 3 days of June.*

Choice of 78-6 and 78-8 or double the hammer for both
78-8
78-6 service sire Big Sky
Burner Phone x Facedown
Due July 14th
78-8 service sire Squeeze Box
Burner Phone x Facedown
Due July 15th
This pair of 78s are out of deep litter from last fall. We kept all the gilts out of this litter if that tells you anything. The 78-6 and 78-8 due dates just happen to fit perfect with the timing of this sale. The 78s are out of one of our key Chester sows. The Facedown sow would be a littermate to the Champion Chester Barrow at San Antonio in 2019. She has raised numerous sale making barrows over the years but more importantly she has raised several replacements gilts for us. One of those being the mother to the 3rd overall Chester gilt at the Texas’ Elite Showcase in 2022, Class winner at San Antonio in 2023, along with numerous sale makers. 78-6 is bred to Big Sky which is a Big Screen son we kept out of our fall crop. He is out of one our very best young sows. She herself would have been 3rd overall Chester at San Angelo gilt show in 2022. We have already had a few litters out of him and they have us really excited. 78-8 is bred to Squeeze Box, a Perfect Fit son we kept a couple of springs ago. He has really clicked with our stuff making this a very predictable litter. Take your pick or double down for both and look real smart come September but it wouldn’t hurt our feelings farrowing the other here.

Erin is the Grand Champion gilt in 2019 at San Antonio and is a full sib to Secret Society that we bought from Lackey. About half of our sow herd goes back to her and never has a gilt out of her left the farm. She has had 10 sale making barrows in her career highlighted by the Reserve Dark Cross in Houston in ‘21 out of Never Before. All 4 littermates made the sale that year at HLSR. The four littermate sisters to those barrows are making their mark along with several other daughters. She is bred to OCD because he worked great on her two daughters last year.
• 51-2 is mother to Lord’s Work (Wintex), Wally (Showtime Sires) and a boar Cain’s purchased from us this winter. Littermates by Tricked Out.
URBAN LEGEND X 51-3
• 51-3 Raised Grand Barrow at San Patricio and Kleberg County last year
LEO CANALES: 361-877-2640
83-1 combines everything our operation has to offer and goes deep into the genetics that work for us.
No Problem had a great run for us this past spring, incuding the Champion Middle Weight Dark Crossbred barrow at San Antonio. He also is the littermate to No Stranger and Quite Frankly.
Mother of 83-1 is a littermate to Peanut‘s Champion Cross Gilt at Texas‘ Elite in 2022 which sold to Lairds for $29,000
Grandmother of 83-1 is our 59-7 sow which is also grandmother to Backwoods, grandmother to Princess Mia (high selling gilt at Kerrville 2023) , grandmother to Champion Light Cross gilt at Kerrville 2022, and great grandmother to the Grand at Rodeo Austin 2023
It‘s hard for us to let one like this go, especially considering his pedigree...wherever he ends up, we will be getting on the books.
