‘New’ Old Bromsgrovians - Welcoming the Class of 2024 to our Bromsgrovian Community
The first word... In the summer of 2024, as has happens every year, Bromsgrove pupils received their public examination results. At GCSE, the average outcome was an impressive grade 7 (an A grade); in the Sixth Form, 60% of all grades were A* or A grade or the equivalent, and the IB average score of 38.9 meant that Bromsgrove School was the fourth highest performing IB school in the UK. Equipped with these excellent results, Bromsgrove leavers, the newest Old Bromsgrovians, left School for some of the best universities in the UK and across the world: two thirds to Russell Group Universities in the UK and over a quarter to World Top 50 universities. Two Bromsgrovians joined the Marines, one the Army and three took up highly competitive apprenticeships. We are very proud of them all, wish them every
success and happiness and hope they will always stay in touch with what will always be their School. However, very pleasing though these results are, they only tell part of the story. They don’t measure everything else that pupils achieved during their time at School, in the classroom and outside; neither do they reflect the progress they made, the challenges they overcame and the talents they uncovered; they don’t reflect the positive tone that pupils set and the valuable part they played in the School community and they don’t reflect the people that they have become. Although schools should measure outcomes, there is also a risk that those qualities which are harder to measure, can be thought to matter less.
I hope Bromsgrovians will always be identifiable by the way they treat others, by a willingness to get the job done, to work with others, their openness to change and ability to go on learning, as well as an appreciation of what really matters in life. I hope Bromsgrovians leave School with a clear set of values so that they make a positive mark on the world as well as a set of top grades. Finally, we always enjoy welcoming OBs back to Bromsgrove. It might be that you are able to attend an OB event, or you would prefer to visit the School on a working day. Please stay in touch, enjoy the pages that follow and we hope they rekindle fond memories of your time at School. MICHAEL PUNT HEADMASTER
