ADMISSIONS INFORMATION

Open Mornings and Entrance Examinations

The Bromsgrove School Admissions office is happy to help and to advise the parents of all pupils considering entry to Bromsgrove School. Pupils may gain admission to Bromsgrove School in any year group, but the main points of intake are at Kindergarten (Pre-Prep), Year 3 and Year 7 (Prep School), and at ages 13+ and 16+ (Senior School). However, parents seeking places for their children are welcome to contact the Admissions department to discuss the availability of places in any year group. Admission during the course of an academic year is by special arrangement with the Assistant Head.

Open Mornings are usually held in September and October, all those enquiring about a place will automatically be invited to the next relevant Open Morning.

Prospective pupils and their parents are encouraged to visit us, either for an Open Day or for an individual visit; families will usually do both. After visiting for an Open Morning an individual visit can be tailored to your exact requirements and will include tours with pupils, meetings with senior staff and the Headmaster. BURSARY INFORMATION If you need assistance with School fees and your child is not awarded a scholarship, please do apply for a means-tested bursary. Scholarship awards may be supplemented by a meanstested bursary. The School offers a significant number of bursaries to pupils. Candidates should be good all-rounders or display talent in one or more areas, including academic, musical, aesthetic, artistic and athletic. These bursaries are subject to a parental meanstest and are awarded to enable reasonably talented boys and girls whose parents could not otherwise afford the fees to join the School. Candidates for bursaries will be asked to sit the Entrance Examinations at 11+ and 13+ and at 16+ to fulfil our Sixth Form entry criteria. Below Sixth Form the School is especially keen to attract pupils who are academically able and bursary help is available to assist parents who are unable to meet the fees in full. For those bursary candidates under the age of 11 on 1st September of the year in which they are applying there will be a particular emphasis on academic talent. Awards are rarely made to pupils under the age of 11. Parents of candidates for bursaries will be asked to complete and return a confidential form indicating their financial circumstances. The Bursar will then recommend the scale of any award that may be made. Awards are re-assessed each year. Assessment may include a visit to the family home/s. Further details of the School’s Bursary Policy and Procedures are available from our Admissions Department. Bursary applications should be submitted no later than the second Saturday in January. Bursary decisions will be made and notified by the end of the second week of March. The financial value of any bursary is strictly confidential between parents, the Headmaster and the School’s Financial Management. Pupils should not be told the size of the awards. A completed registration form must be received before a bursary application can be considered.

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION Bromsgrove offers a generous provision of scholarships and bursaries. Scholarships reward excellent performance in academe, sport, music and the arts and carry little or no financial assistance. Bursaries are means-tested and offer assistance with fees. It is possible to apply for both a bursary and scholarship at the same time. Scholarships are offered in the following subject areas: 11+ Academic, Music 13+ Academic, Music, Sport, Art, All-round Scholarship, Boarding Scholarship 16+ Academic, Music, Sport, Art Additionally a number of Foundation Scholarships are available each year for children living in Bromsgrove and the surrounding districts. Scholarships are offered to both internal and external candidates. Interviews and/or examinations are very competitive. Scholarship examinations and interviews will not necessarily take the same form every year. Papers (especially those such as the Headmaster’s Essay paper) are designed to test potential as much as what has been taught and remembered, and there is inevitably an on the day factor that may reward candidates who have yet to shine fully in their current school. Scholarships and exhibitions are awarded for the duration of the pupil’s time at Bromsgrove School and scholars do not need to reapply for their awards. However, the awards are subject to several conditions and the tenure of any award is subject to high standards of attendance and behaviour on the pupil’s part. The value of any award is strictly confidential between parents, the Headmaster and the School’s financial management, children should not be told the size of the award and breach of this condition can lead to the award being withdrawn. Annual Awards 11+ Scholarship awards usually comprise of: • 4 academic awards • 1 music award 13+ Scholarship awards usually comprise of: • 6 academic awards • 2 music awards • Up to 2 art awards • Up to 4 sports awards • 2 boarding/all-rounder scholarships (50% fee remission - means-tested)* • 2 All-rounder scholarships* 4

*Candidates must sit two separate scholarships exams.

16+ Scholarship awards usually comprise of: • 6 academic awards • 2 music awards • Up to 2 art awards • Up to 5 sports awards Foundation Scholarships Bromsgrove School maintains 12 places for Foundation Scholars. Two are normally awarded each year. The awards only operate in respect of day places and preference is given to candidates from the Bromsgrove area and surrounding districts. Foundation scholarship candidates should be aged over 11 and under 14 at the date of the award. Foundation scholarships are awarded to pupils in need of financial assistance and the maximum award available is 50% of fees (means-tested), although this can be augmented with a means-tested bursary. Any candidate wishing to be considered for a Foundation Scholarship should send a letter stating this with their registration form. Scholarship Examinations Dates Sports Scholarships (13+)
