Alzheimer Society Durham Region
Our Family Support staff offer one-on-one dementia-specific counseling to care partners and persons living with dementia. We provide education about the disease, coping techniques, navigation services and assist with care planning throughout the dementia journey. You may access support via phone, virtual visits or home visits. Virtual and inperson support groups facilitated by staff and trained volunteers are also available. Self-Management Program Central East

Empower yourself to take charge of your health. This program offers a variety of workshops on topics such as chronic conditions, chronic pain, diabetes and caregiver self-care. Powerful Tools for Caregivers
A free six-week workshop, one day a week, for 1.5 hours per session. This workshop helps caregivers develop the self-care skills to: reduce personal stress; change negative self-talk; communicate their needs to family members and healthcare or service providers; communicate effectively in challenging situations; recognize the messages in their emotions; deal with difficult feelings; and make tough caregiving decisions.
Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Pain
A free six-week workshop, one day a week, for 2.5 hours per session. You will learn how to manage pain so that you can be more involved with everyday activities. You will learn different techniques (e.g., problem solving, planning, communication and working with your health care professional) to help you manage your pain and the symptoms of your pain (e.g., difficult emotions, depression) so that you do not have to let pain control your life.
Living a Healthy Life with Diabetes
A free six-week workshop, one day a week, for 2.5 hours per session. You will learn skills and tools to better manage diabetes or prediabetes. Examples of topics include: preventing or delaying complications; dealing with difficult emotions, food choices: putting it all together, strategies for sick days and working with your health care professional and health care system.

CAMP HOURS
Camp hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Before and after care is available for an additional fee.

SAFE ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL
Staff are required to identify the parent/guardian of each child by requesting government issued photo identification (ID) before staff will release campers.
SUPERVISION RATIOS

Ratios may be enhanced with support from trained youth volunteers and Leader-InTraining Participants.
Participants With Additional Needs
We strive to ensure the successful and safe participation of all campers in our camps. If your child has extra support needs or a health condition you MUST inform us upon registration.

What To Wear
Be prepared! Dress for the weather and for the activities you’ll be participating in. Bathing suit and towels should be packed daily for outdoor water games. Dress for a mess, old clothes are best! Closed-toe shoes are encouraged for all the activities your child will be participating in. Sandals are not suitable for our adventures.
Staff Qualifications
All camp staff are hired through an application and interview process, and selected based on their experience and enthusiasm. All staff must have:
Standard First Aid and CPR Level C Vulnerable Sector Check
In addition to these qualifications, all staff are required to attend pre-camp training sessions on child safety and programming.
