CHAIRMAN

MICHAELMURRAY

As we progress through March much has happened since my last report. It certainly goes to show that not all our success happens on the pitch.

The awarding of the Bronze licence from the SFA is a culmination of a couple years work by the club. Each step we have taken moved us closer to this. We had previously alluded to the Bronze licence last year when we had the meet and greet.

To achieve a Bronze Licence, clubs must meet various criteria, including ground, first team football, youth team football, legal, administration, finance, and codes of practice criteria. This achievement not only underlines the ambition of the club but a desire to improve all areas of this club. I would like to take this time to thank our committee on the hard work to date and for their dedication to the club.

We continue to work on other projects which will take time to bear fruit. As directors we want to

MichaelMurray

share all our plans but are also mindful that progress can take longer than expected and we need to manage expectation. A prime example of this is the Bronze licence. We had hoped to announce this in September last year but have had to wait an additional 6 months to get this over the line The team have succeeded in winning the Aberdeenshire Shield for a record tenth time. What a great feeling it was to watch them collect the shield and celebrate as a team. This is what makes this a great club.

The league still has a few more twists to go, we look forward to each game as it comes. With two home and away games to go including a double header against Huntly as the league season concludes. Focus remains fully on attaining as high a league position as possible.

Our Tam Cowan event was a great success with a full lounge and some great laughs on the night. Once again thank you to our lounge team for making it the success it was. We look forward to our other events across the year which are advertised on our socials.

The group were delighted to win the Aberdeenshire Shield this month in an entertaining game against Formartine.

A great team performance and special moment for some of the squad to receive their first senior medals

As they have done in the past, Mark and Bax threw in a couple of surprises during our pre-match preparations and played with a shape they thought would work well against them. And much to their credit and the team it worked very well I thought. When you look at the Formartine line up there isn’t much weaknesses and lots of quality - we knew it was going to be a huge challenge, particularly having being on the end of a defeat a few weeks prior. But the first half felt quite comfortable bar a few mistakes by ourselves early on. It felt we were in control of the game and picking up most of the loose balls and causing them lots of issues. To go in two nil up, I felt was deserved. But cup finals are never that easy and although the second half was more even, there was definitely a stroke of luck in Formartine’s equaliser with a wicked deflection off Keezo. It was a tough moment to get through but we did and Fig’s winner was great timing then Beagrie’s goal allowed us to enjoy the end of the game without too much trouble. It was a

great team performance and a special moment for some of the squad to receive their first senior medals including Hawk, Flynn and Stuartie. For me, I had the added pleasure of my son Zack’s birthday and it was great to see him and Nicky (my other loon) at the end of the game and take part in the celebrations.

During this period we have had other successes including the Highland League Cup semi-final on a Friday night under the lights at the Bellslea against Banks o’ Dee. Another big challenge but we were able to come up with the goods and a 2-0 win. I recall our three giants Keezo, Hayser and Beags all putting in great performances and all are having great seasons in my opinion. So we now look forward to another Cup Final against familiar foes in Brora in Inverness.

Back to league action and a win at home against Rothes with Butcher getting back on the goal trail with a hattrick in a 6-1 win. You always know you’re going to get goals from Butch, he is in and out of the team but always works hard in training and does his utmost for the squad. We played some good football against Rothes and were

worth our win.

The result away to Keith was disappointing with a 1-1 draw and it perhaps showed the reduced depth in the squad from losing Aiden and Liam to injury. Both missed out on the Shield Final but hopefully they can return for the run-in and the Highland League Cup Final.

We then defeated Nairn County in a 2-0 win. We rode our luck at timesI’m not sure how Nairn didn’t score - but some last ditch defending and goalkeeping from Joe Barbour kept them at bay. What might have been more entertaining was the WAG’s day out in the Hutty. I think most of them were supposed to go home after the hospitality but ended up hitting the town supported by a few of the players and club staff. (After drinking the hospitality dry of Prosecco and Tequila Rose). Great to see them enjoying themselves - it’s much deserved for all the support they give us the players and coaching staff throughout the season.

The word legend is thrown about a bit at our club because there are so many that have invested so much time

Willie West

and effort into this place but for this man, there will never be enough good things to be said. For the players, Finlay is so important to have at the club, he never misses a game or an important stat and always has a smile on his face. It was great to be part of his 1000th game and win 1-0 against Turriff who made it a very difficult evening with their shape and fitness. Scott Barbour was needed to come on and make the difference in a tight game.

Lastly, arguably the best form team in the league in Inverurie Locos was next up and we led three times only for Locos to come back again and again. It was gutting to lose that last minute goal to their keeper but perhaps over the piece a draw was a fair result. It was Beagrie’s 300 game

for us and his desire to win in that game was inspiring (although I told him to stop moaning at me a few times!). The way he is playing there’s definitely more milestones possible should he choose.

Lastly, its great that the club has demonstrated its ambition with achieving the Bronze license which I believe allows us to move up the leagues should we be good enough to do so. Well done to all the people involved.

There is just 5 games left in the season and we will be looking to get 5 wins to hopefully set up a fifth place finish and that coveted Highland League Cup Medal.

All the best Willie

As we are about to enter the last few weeks of an already memorable season I wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate Mark, James, our coaches and players for a superb victory in the Aberdeenshire Shield Final for a record tenth time – a performance fuelled with desire, determination and superb execution of a winning game plan.

To see the joy on everyone’s faces at the final whistle, and with the Shield, was absolutely brilliant. The hunger to win silverware is there for all us fans to see and this is absolutely mirrored by myself and the rest of the Directors as we strive to have a sustainable operational model that is in place to deliver all our ambitions.

As I highlighted in last month’s Bulletin, it’s

important that we have an open and transparent relationship with our fan base and the business community that support us, whilst retaining confidentially in the right areas. It has been our intention since the Rangers game to hold an open event to provide an update on our Club, with an opportunity for a Q&A too – this supporter engagement event will be held in our Hospitality Lounge at Bellslea Park on Monday 28th April (6:00pm – 7:00pm) and is open to all our fans. We will be posting awareness on our social media channels.

As I have mentioned repeatedly in this column, our role as Directors is to ensure our Club has a sustainable business model and is run as a business, to generate the income needed to exceed the ongoing operational costs of our Club with our priority continuing to be

youth development, having a competitive First Team, and at the same time, ensuring we are making provision for the non-playing side to include Bellslea Park maintenance and capital improvements. We are absolutely focussed on increasing income through organising Events and providing Sponsorship opportunities to individuals and businesses and we need our fans, local and regional businesses to support us, to deliver our business model aspirations.

So, some specific updates since last month…………..

CLUB 1910:

Our next event will be held in our Hospitality Lounge, in conjunction with “Enterprising Aberdeenshire” (EA) and “Broch Business Together”(BBT), on Tuesday 29th April

between Noon and 2:00pm. David McCubbin, Fraserburgh’s Town Centres Executive for Aberdeenshire will provide an overview on Fraserburgh’s future place in this plan. As well as an opportunity to network with fellow business owners, we’ll also hear how working with EA and BBT can help all local businesses in the Broch and surrounding areas. Details will be posted on our Social Media platforms in the next few days.

EVENTS:

Here are our next four scheduled events which we hope will allow all our fans and business supporters the opportunity to be involved and support our Club as we journey together.

Friday 25th April: Annual Hall of Fame and End of Season Awards Dinner at the Fraserburgh Leisure Centre. This is not a fundraising event but an opportunity for us all to celebrate with, and show our appreciation to our Management, Coaches and players for what has been a season to remember. Tickets are still available - please contact us on events@fraserburghfc. co.uk to reserve your place.

Saturday 14th June: Dinner Dance at the Chester Hotel, Aberdeen. This is our main “fundraiser” in our commercial calendar and I’m

delighted to share that our guest speaker is Chris Kamara MBE who will be making his first speaking engagement in the Northeast / Aberdeen. We are really hoping this event will be a “sell out”. Please contact myself on George. thom@fraserburghfc.co.uk to reserve your place.

Saturday 21st June: Heid Oot, Sponsored Charity Walk in Fraserburgh –funds raised will go to our Club and local causes helping those whose lives are impacted by dementia. Please follow our new Facebook page to keep up to date on our event planning. https:// www.facebook.com/ profile.php? id=61573919199429

Friday 1st August: Annual Golf Day Fraserburgh Golf Club. More details to follow – in the meantime please “save the date”.

SPONSORSHIP continues to be a key source of annual income generation for our Club and we would love to hear from any business or individual who is led to support us on our journey. We have a number of new opportunities for 2025/26, in what is our 115th Anniversary year.

OFFICIAL PARTNERS are businesses who provide business services to the Club for free or at a discount. This extends to businesses who pay the Club an annual fee to sell FFC branded products as

an extension to an existing range.

We would welcome a discussion with any business who would like to become an Official Partner with a service not currently provided by our existing Partners https://www. thebroch.online/partners

:

The close season is a busy month with “Annual renewals” and we will have opportunities to promote a business / cause around the ground that will hopefully suit every budget – starting from an annual fee of £100 + vat. Please contact us on stephen. sim@fraserburghfc.co.uk to reserve a Board.

NEXT MONTH

In next month’s Bulletin, we will provide a further update on the non-playing side of our Club as we enter what we expect to be a busy “close season”please continue to give us feedback on any ideas you have to help us financially or commercially as we journey together. Please do get in touch with me on George. thom@fraserburghfc.co.uk or any of our Directors.

SATURDAY 8TH MARCH

MATTHEW WEST

Despite the defeat last Monday in our final U21s match of the campaign we must look beyond the result and take encouragement from the squad’s efforts this season. It's been a tough run of fixtures for the First Team –it's recovery these guys need on a Monday at the moment - not additional minutes. So, this brought a great opportunity to maximise the number of players up from the U18s for the final game of the season. This league provides a great platform for the younger players to play alongside, and also against, experienced players. Stonehaven are relatively new to the league and have made great progress this year. Lifting the trophy at their place pre-match was always going to make the challenge ever tougher. On the night a very youthful squad showed much potential for next season’s campaign. I want to thank Dean and Alex for there continued efforts with the U21 squad and congratulate them on a successful season. Not only for the winner’s medals but more importantly the number of these guys edging closer to the First Team squad. We still have a lot of work to do, but with the drive Alex still has at his youthful age and the

Matthew West

wisdom Dean can pass to these apprentices, we are well placed to give them a great opportunity to kick on at the club in the coming years.

For the U18s we have had four games this month. We kicked things off with a trip to Formartine at North Lodge Park. We didn’t play particularly well and seemed to lack energy. Formartine were worthy winner on the night. One positive was the impact of the subs as we were able to recover and finish strongly thanks to their attitude. This is so important as these guys will have to be ready and accustomed to a demand to perform when game time comes off the bench.

The team responded well from the defeat at NLP with a convincing 7-0 rout at home against Huntly. It was good to see seven different goalscorers on the night and a clean sheet.

Next up was a friendly against local welfare side Mormond Thistle which was a good workout for the team against a physical adult team.

On Monday past we hosted Banks o’ Dee at home. The game was entertaining and the team performed well amid challenging circumstances having been reduced to 10 men after Billy Jones was sent for an early shower midway through the first half. We prepare well for

match but when something like this happens in the game you must adapt. The team responded well and could not have given any more. Experiences like these build character which will be of benefit to the group going forward. We look forward to three home games to complete the 18s season. We will look at each game as a great challenge and opportunity to improve.

I want to finish with a note of thanks to our dedicated mothers (and grannies). You play an important role in supporting what is a big commitment for the guys within our youth programme.

Attimestheyareachallenge, Whentheythinktheirduck’saswan, Tryingtohelptheirsons, Inanywaytheycan, Taxiservicetogetthemthere, Wellfedwithkitsallclean, Awelcomevoiceofencouragement, Ondaysthey’renotsokeen, Stoodoutonthesideline, Handwarmers‘n’langdraars, Inahsortso’wither, Farwidtheseladsbeattheday, Ifitwisnafortheirmither!

Happy Mothers Day!

JAMIE BEAGRIE TESTIMONIAL

All at the club were delighted to see the recent launch of Jamie Beagrie’s Testimonial programme.

The 2025/26 season will mark Jamie’s tenth with the club since rejoining in 2016, although his

Broch career can be traced back to 2008 when he first broke into the first team as a 16-year-old.

Spells with Cove, Peterhead, and Turriff broke Jamie’s continuous service with us but haven’t prevented him reaching the 300 FFC appearances mark.

In his time at Bellslea, Jamie has collected winners medals in two Aberdeenshire Cup finals, three Aberdeenshire Shield finals, and of course the Highland League championship - a haul that would have undoubtedly been greater if not for his offshore work commitments.

Jamie’s testimonial events kick off with a day of golf at Fraserburgh G.C. on Sunday 20th April, details of which can be found on the next page.

We will finish by congratulating Jamie on his well deserved testimonial year and should you wish to keep abreast of events please follow the JB7 Testimonial pages on Facebook and X.

BROCH ACHIEVE BRONZE LICENSE

Football

‘Clubs’ are well named.

They are more than a Football Team, and never more so than the modern day. Coaching, Youth Development, Medical Facilities, Ground Facilities, Fundraising, Financing, Stewarding and Administration all add up to become the ‘Club’in every sense. At our level, it is run by volunteers –people with a love of the game, and a desire to have a platform for the game in our area, as good as it can be.We all take pride in what we do individually, which added together becomes Fraserburgh Football Club we see today.

Fraserburgh FC are delighted to announce we have been awarded a Club License at Bronze Level. This means a lot of things, but in general, it is a reflection of where we are at as a complete Football Club, and at the moment there is a lot to be celebrated.

Not one person can be applauded for this achievement, as it is the epitome of collective achievement, and one we have worked hard at for a number of years to achieve.

A Club License is issued by the Scottish FA, to allow Clubs to operate and compete in Scottish FA competitions which include Scottish Premiership, Championship, League One, League Two, Lowland League,

Highland League and Scottish Cup.

The license is levelled as Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Entry. To play in the Highland League you must meet Entry level, to play in League Two you must meet Bronze.

The license is issued annually, following an audit by the Scottish FA.To achieve a license, you must comply with the requirements for the Ground, First Team Football, Youth Football, Child Protection, Legal, Administration and Finance. Only when all areas reach the level, are you given the award.

Club Infrastructure: This includes the facilities, such as the quality of the playing surface, training facilities, and the general infrastructure of the club.

Youth Development: The club must demonstrate an investment in youth development and a clear pathway for young players to progress within the club's system.

Financial Stability: The club must show that it is financially stable, following regulations related to financial management and governance.

Coaching Standards:

Ensuring that coaching staff meet the required qualifications and standards.

Club Governance: This relates to the administrative and operational aspects of the club, ensuring that it is wellmanaged and compliant with necessary rules and regulations.

For us, club licensing began in 2008, when we realised it was coming down the track, and started documenting the policies, procedures required. Our first audit was on 24th June 2015, with our Entry Level award in place for 2015/16 season

Planning for Bronze started around 2019, with the upgrade work to Referees room, supporter toilets and supporter entry gate upgrades.

Unfortunately a global pandemic got in the way, but things were accelerated since

the SPFL introduced mandatory Bronze Criteria in 2024, and ultimately with our audit in January 2025.

So what is next ?

Maintaining our Bronze position will take a lot of effort. Do we push on to Silver ? It wont be easy to find another 4 meters of pitch width, provide more floodlights, larger changing rooms, more covered seating, media facilities, coaching qualifications and stewarding – to name a few. But who knows ? 15 years ago we were striving for Entry level, and we thought Bronze was out of reach… Lets just enjoy where we’re at for now!

Ross McGowan and Laurie Adam are Club Licensing Officers for the Scottish FA. They’ve taken some time to give us a Q&A insight to Club Licensing, from their perspective.

How long have you worked for the Scottish FA? How did you arrive at this position?

Ross: I have worked for the Scottish FA for about 5 years starting in the Wellbeing & Protection Department, but I have now been in the Licensing Department for over 2 years. I have spent over 10 years working and volunteering in sports governance across cycling, basketball, handball and football. I have had a bit of a

journey across sports, roles and England & Scotland to arrive in this role, but I think my previous experience is what has landed me in this privileged position.

Laurie: I have worked for the Scottish FA since August 2022, where I started as Child Wellbeing and Protection Administrator. After 8 months in this position, the opportunity arose to join the Club Licensing Department. Prior to my time at Scottish FA, I was a Facilities Manager at a Community Sports Club in Edinburgh, which was the beginning of my career in sport and I have held various administrative and management role across different industries. How many clubs are licensed and what is the breakdown of awards?

We currently have 123 member clubs of the Scottish FA who hold different levels of award. These are broken down into:

 79 Entry Level

 30 Bronze Level

 9 Silver Level

 3 Gold Level

 2 Platinum Level

A full list of clubs and award levels can be found on the Scottish FA website: Club Licensing | Football Governance | Scottish FA

Each club is assessed across 4 sections relating to its Ground, First Team Football,Youth Football (if applicable) and Legal,Admin and Finance. The full Club Licensing Manual can be found on the Scottish FA website: scottish-fa-clublicensing-manual-2025.pdf

Starting at entry level, the criteria increase to gold.As the levels of criteria increase, clubs are asked to meet higher standards. In terms of the criteria, we look at coaching qualifications, medical provision at matches and training, contracts/written agreements, financial statements, policies, ground infrastructure, accessible provision for spectators and club personnel to name a few parts of the criteria.

We also undertake Club Academy Scotland audits which includes 30 SPFL academies on top of those club licensing audits 4 different levels – Advanced Youth, Performance, Performance (Progressive) and Elite.

What does a normal week look like as a CLO?

We will spend most weeks preparing to visit clubs by reviewing the information and documentation submitted, or reviewing the updates that club provide us on any variances identified during the audit process.

When auditing clubs, we normally spend the day before reviewing the paperwork submitted by clubs to ensure compliance with the criteria at the selected level.A report is then created for the club. This will highlight any variances that we can then discuss with club personnel during the ground visit. At the ground visit, we will view dressing rooms, medical facilities, accessible facilities, technical areas, the field of play to name a few. After the review of documents and the ground visit, the report is then confirmed and sent to the club.

Alongside audits, we also attend quarterly Licensing Committee meetings.A typical week prior to this meeting includes update emails to clubs, report writing and updating club files. This allows us to give the Licensing Committee a clear picture of where the club are at in terms

of licensing and if they are compliant against the level of criteria the club have applied at.

How does the Licensing System benefit the game in Scotland?

It raises and sets a standard for the game. It puts in place across Scottish football a set of standards and procedures that clubs will be assessed against for continuous improvement. By implementing and following these standards and procedures, clubs can demonstrate that it's taking responsibility for the those who are involved within the club, such as players/coaches/ staff/officials, but in turn the wider community that they are an integral part of.

Licensing is an open process that lets clubs show their stakeholders they meet quality standards as well which may help in attracting investment

or sponsorship. It also helps create benchmarking data, so clubs can see where they stand and plan how to improve.

Scottish football will benefit overall as the goal of licensing is to make sure clubs meet and maintain certain standards and keep improving them over time. Ultimately, it's about raising the bar in Scottish football, covering areas like safety, infrastructure, youth development, coaching, medical care, governance, and ethical practices and the Scottish FA will focus on helping and supporting clubs to hit these standards.

How does Scottish FA licensing tie in with UEFA?

All SPFL Premiership clubs are put through a UEFA Club Licence to adequately prepare them for possible qualification into the Champions League, Europa League or Conference League. The UEFA criteria in a lot of ways reflects the domestic licensing which makes helps club have a lot of the requirements in place already, but there are a few areas that go over and above what we expect domestically – but this does depend on the scope that a club are going for in their domestic licence.

Should a club outside of the SPFL Premiership get through to the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup, we undertake an Ross and Laurie run the licensing rule over Tynecastle

extraordinary application of the club licensing system for UEFA competitions. This is so if they win the Scottish Cup, they have already achieved an UEFA licence and are able to participate in next season’s European competitions.

UEFA also audit the Scottish FA on an annual basis to ensure that we are implementing their licensing system appropriately.

We also attend annual UEFA conferences and workshops to liaise with our UEFA colleagues to better understand their expectations around the UEFA licensing system, any new developments and meet colleagues from across the 55 European associations to listen to their experiences on UEFA licensing but in turn learn about their domestic processes.

Do you have a favourite area/ground to visit?

It’s a difficult one as Scottish football has some excellent grounds to visit in some fantastic parts of the country, but we both always look forward to our visits to the clubs based in the Highland League and North Caledonian Leagues. Getting to visit the Highlands is always a great experience as it is a beautiful part of the country where we can visit some unique grounds that show some of the best of Scottish football. If we can, we aim to do these over the summer period so we can enjoy the weather (if we are

lucky!) and scenery that the settings can provide.

What is likely to emerge in the future, as a licensing requirement?

We would say Social & Environmental Sustainability, in particular impact of football clubs on the environment. As society looks to assess and reduce its impact on the environment, it is something that football clubs will need to start to consider within Scotland. Football clubs will need to start looking at their waste management, ability to recycle, energy usage and carbon impact over the coming years and look to reduce this to become more sustainable. In the long run it should help clubs save financially, allowing their resources to be placed elsewhere and become greener in the long run.

As this is something that UEFA are rolling out across clubs that compete within the Champions League, Europa and Conference Leagues it will be something that will start to filter down into domestic licensing to not only better prepare clubs to obtain their UEFA licences but also meet the demands of an everchanging society. It is of course something that once introduced that we would work closely with clubs to ensure that they are supported through the process.

The Scottish FA has its own Social & Environmental Sustainability strategy to outline how it can positively impact society across a broad range of societal issuesscottishfa.co.uk/media/10974/ scottish-fa-football-socialresponsibility.pdf

Would you take a long shot at something that might be included in 10 – 15 years’ time, we may not foresee at the moment?

A hard question to answer as club licensing likes to throw up various questions and scenarios on an annual basis that even we can’t foresee at times. We usually look to UEFA to see what spaces they are operating within which then usually gives us a sense of what will eventually be cascaded down into domestic licensing – which is what we currently see with the criteria in the Social & Environmental Sustainability space.

I guess it would be good to flip the question and ask clubs what would they see being included in 10 – 15 years’time?

Fraserburgh response : We might foresee technology coming into the licensing requirements in the long term –for coaching, refereeing, broadcasting and data gathering. Technology advancements and reduction in cost means it may eventually trickle down to lower levels.

FIRST TEAM FIXTURES & STATS 24/25

Referees are a vital part of football and as the Scottish FA seeks to continually grow and develop the Scottish game, there is a constant need to recruit and develop referees.

Referee Associations locally continue to be looking to welcome new members and to this end, we would invite anyone interested to contact the Association which covers matches in their area. All football matches require at least a referee and in certain other fixtures also assistant referees. Therefore, new blood is sought on an ongoing basis.

Refereeing can be a highly rewarding challenge, encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle as well as significantly contributing to the development of the game. Referees operate at all levels – from grassroots football right through to the Scottish Professional Football League and international matches.

The Associations run introductory classes; … when numbers are sufficient, on a class based ‘face to face’ basis, which can be tailored to suit candidates … by Zoom which can also be tailored for those interested.

And in addition, there is also an online course which can be

completed at the candidates own pace, in their own surroundings, over 5 modules, with details on the SFA website.

All courses also have a face-toface session for candidates to provide advice on the practicalities of officiating.

We would be delighted to hear from you and contact details are undernoted. Further details are also on the SFA website in the referee section.

INVERURIE FRASERBURGH

SATURDAY 22ND MARCH

It was a massive game on the Friday night when Banks O’ Dee were the visitors to the Bellslea for the Semi Final of the League Cup, a bumper crowd was there to see a tight first half where few real chances were created and non were taken, it was late in the game when Scott Barbour broke the deadlock in the 85th minute, Joe Barbour fires a long kick down field, Nathan Cooney fails to deal with it, Scott slides in and knocks it past Daniel Hoban with his left foot from 9 yards out to send the home fans wild, Sean Butcher calmed any late nerves in the 90th minute, Willie West takes a throw in on the left, Connor Wood flicks it on, Scott Barbour sends a perfect pass across the 6 yard box, Sean fires it home with his right foot to send us into the final, we will now play Brora Rangers in the Final on Saturday 19th April at Grant Street in Inverness.

The under 18’s continued their busy schedule away at Formartine United on the Monday night, a strong home side scored in the 9th and 17th minutes to have a 2-goal lead at half-time, Evan Anderson latched onto a defensive mistake in the 78th minute, he ran through on goal and slotted the ball into the bottom right corner of the net, this defeat means the youngsters require results elsewhere to go their way if they are to win the league title.

We were at home to Rothes on the Wednesday night, Aidan Sopel broke the deadlock in the 20th minute, Flynn McKay sends a pass wide left for Aidan, he cuts inside and shoots at goals, Young heads the ball past his keeper into the net, unfortunately Aidan went off with an arm injury later in the game, fingers crossed he makes a speedy recovery, Sean Butcher doubled our advantage in the 26th minute, Scott Barbour swings in a corner from the right, Sean rises highest and nods the ball home from 3 yards out, Rothes were back in

the game early in the second half, Jake Thomson raced forward and slotted the ball through Joe’s legs into the net, Sean Butcher restored our 2 goal lead in the 58th minute, Joe Barbour runs out of his box and clears a ball up field, the ball bounces once and Sean lobs the ball over Sean McCarthy from 20 yards out with his right foot, Sean Butcher completed his hat-trick in the 67th minute, Scott Barbour plays a clever one two with Flynn McKay, Scott fires the ball across the 6-yard box, Sean is unmarked at the back post and taps home from 2 yards out, Flynn McKay made it 5 from the penalty spot in the 80th minute after Taylor Thain had taken him down in the box, Stuart Laird completed the scoring in the 87th minute, Logan Watt releases Flynn McKay down the left wing, he crosses low into the box, Stuart reacts quickest and fires the ball home with his left foot from 8-yards out, another 3 points to our league tally.

We were away to Keith on the Saturday, Sean Butcher put us ahead in the 24th minute, Greg Buchan plays the ball forward to Scott Barbour, he lays the ball off to Greg who runs towards the bye line, he crosses low into the 6-yard box, Sean prods the ball home from 5 yards out with his right foot, Cameron Wilson scored from the penalty spot in the 61st minute to share the points.

The under 18’s were back to winning ways when they defeated Huntly by 7 goals to nil, Kai Benson flicked home from a corner in the 16th minute to give the Broch the lead, Theo Watt doubled our advantage in the 24th minute when he fired home from 10 yards out, the Broch worked a clever free-kick in the 49th minute which resulted in Alexander Johnston heading home from 5 yards out, Harvey Mackie played a one two into the box then smashed the ball home in the 56th minute, 5 minutes later Evan Anderson tucked the ball home to put us 5 nil up, Hugo Watt finished off

a fast counter attack in the 70th minute, Will Sim completed the scoring when he fired home from 18 yards out in the 75th min.

All roads led to Turriff as the Broch took on Formartine United in the Final of the Morrison Motors Aberdeenshire Shield, it was a tight game for much of the first half, Willie West opened the scoring in the 36th minute, Paul Young plays a ball into the box, Formartine’s Glenn Murison heads it across the box to Willie, he takes a touch and side foots the ball past Ewen MacDonald into the right corner of the net, Logan Watt doubled our advantage in the 44th minute, Willie West crosses the ball in from the left wing, Scott Barbour flicks it on with his head, Logan sneaks in at the back and with his left foot he side foots the ball past MacDonald into the net from close range, Formartine were back in the game in the 59th minute, a long throw in from Matthew McLean was allowed to bounce in the box, Stuart Smith headed the ball past Joe from 3 yards out, the game was level in the 62nd minute, Aaron Norris had a right footed shot from 30 yards, the ball was deflected by the head of Kieran Simpson and flew over Joe into the roof of the net, the Broch were back ahead when Scott Barbour scored in the 71st minute, Connor Wood chases the ball into the left corner, he passes the ball to Willie West, some clever passing between Watt and Buchan releases Willie West into the box, he squares the ball across the 6-yard box for Scott to slide in at the back post and score with his right foot, Jamie Beagrie made the game safe in the 83rd minute, Jamie sends Connor Wood clear on the right wing, Connor has a shot at goal but MacDonald saves diving to his right, the ball breaks loose and Jamie who has followed up slides in and from 8 yards out, he fires the ball into the roof of the net with his left foot, this is the 10th time that we have won the Morrison Motors

Aberdeenshire shield and the first silverware of the season, well done to the players, coaching staff and committee.

It was back to League action on the Saturday as Nairn County were the visitors to the Bellslea, the Broch won the game by 2 goals to nil, but how Nairn failed to score with some of their chances is a bit of a mystery, Scott Barbour opened the scoring in the 37th minute, Ross Aitken passes the ball forward to Sean Butcher, he takes a touch and plays Scott through on goals, Scott flicks the ball into the bottom left-hand corner of the net with his left foot past Dylan MacLean from 7-yards out, Fraser Mackie scored the only other goal of the game in the 69th minute, Scott Barbour plays Sean Butcher clear at the left side of the box, Sean sends a perfect pass over to the unmarked Fraser who volleys the ball into the net from 5 yards out with his left foot.

The under 21’s were away at Stonehaven for the last game of the season, before the match started, we were presented with GPH Builders Merchants Aberdeenshire League Trophy, it was a young Broch team that took to the field for the start of the match, the Broch had most of the possession but failed to convert any of the chances they created, Stonehaven ran out winers by 4 goals to nil.

It was announced that the club have been awarded a Bronze Club Licence from the Scottish FA. A massive congratulations from all at the supporter’s club to everyone who has contributed to this fantastic accomplishment.

We were at home to Turriff United on the Wednesday night, the game was decided late on when Connor Wood scored in the 91st minute, Kieran Simpson wins a header at the halfway line, the ball goes forward to Jamie Beagrie who flicks it forward to Scott Barbour, Scott beats his man and crosses into the 6-yard box, Connor Wood who is unmarked at the back post, side foots the ball into the net from close range.

Congratulations to Finlay McLean Noble who made in the Turriff United game his 1000th Broch first team game in position as secretary of the club, Finlay started in January 2000 but did various other jobs before that when he was a young loon, he also combined it with 16 years as chairman of the club, a truly remarkable achievement, you have been a great ambassador for the Broch and the Highland League, all at the supporter’s club would like to thank you for all that you have done for our club over the last 25 plus years.

The Broch had a league game away at Inverurie, the points were shared with a 3-goal draw, Ross Aitken opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, the ball is sent into the box by Willie West, Calum Dingwall heads the ball clear, Ross fires in a shot with his right foot from 20 yards which goes through Zack Ellis and lands up in the net, Locos were back level in the 35th minute, a corner was swung in and Mark Souter headed the ball powerfully past Joe into the net, Scott Barbour had us back in front in the 52nd minute, Scott shields the ball on the left wing, he turns and drifts past 2 defenders, he then shoots with his right foot from 18 yards out, the ball flies past Zack Ellis into the top left corner of the net, Locos levelled 3 minutes later when Daniel Agnew volleyed home a cross at the back post, Logan Watt put us back in front in the 68th minute, Willie West heads a clearance back over the Locos defence, Logan latches onto the ball and fires it home from 12 yards out with his right foot, the home team grabbed a share of the points in the 95th minute, a corner is swung in from the left and Zack Ellis, the Locos keeper, heads the ball into the net.

Congratulations to Jamie Beagrie who made his 300th appearance for the Broch in the Inverurie Locos game, Jamie made his debut for the club on Saturday the 2nd August 2008, we were at home to Inverness Clach and drew the game 1 all, Jamie scored his first goal for the Broch away at Brora on Saturday 13th December 2008 in a 3 goals to 1 victory, he has gone on to score 39 goals for the club, this

is Jamie’s testimonial year, we all hope it’s a very successful series of events which make him the cash that he deserves, well done Jamie from all at the supporter’s club, we wish you and your young family all the best for the future.

MEET the ref John Milne

What is your job outside of football?

A joiner at Macduff Shipyards

How long have you been refereeing for?

A little over 5 years

First match you can remember refereeing?

First match on my own was an u18’s match, Fraserburgh Link

Up v Colony Park which was a play off to get into the Adjfa A league. The match was a little

more feisty than I had anticipated.

Why did you start refereeing?

Having coached for a number of years all I wanted to do was improve my knowledge and have a better understanding for the laws of the game. I was asked to be an assistant for junior games, and being part of a team of officials I’ve found I quite enjoy it so I’ve kept at it. My dad actually told me to do the course about 10 years before I did, I responded to him Absolutely not!!

Favourite ground to officiate at?

Can’t think of a favourite ground, each ground has its own little perks. I’d like to be able to tick off all the highland league grounds before I stop.

Best refereeing moment?

Nothing more pleasing than playing advantage to see the team score. Testimonials or friendlies also give you a chance to be involved with higher level players.

If you were given the chance to create or amend a rule, what would you choose?

To protect young referees I think silent sidelines would be a good tool for the youngest age groups and allow young referees to build confidence at u13 or u14.

Is there anything at all you think we as clubs could change to encourage more people to become referees?

Social media is always a good tool to promote courses. It’s very much dependent on the person in my opinion. Some people do the course but find it’s really not for them.

Any pre match rituals or superstitions?

No rituals but I hate being late.

One piece of advice to a new referee?

Everyday you learn, be accepting of other officials advice or tips to help.

Best piece of advice you were given?

Be confident, and always have

A familiar sight as Scott Barbour breaks out the trademark celebration in the Aberdeenshire Shield victory.

FAN FOCUS Robbie McDonald

When did you start watching Fraserburgh and why?

I can’t remember my first game but it was certainly in the 1950s as I do recall it was before the famous Scottish Cup win over Dundee.

Which part of the ground do you go in and why?

Any friends you want to mention?

I have a season ticket for the lounge and sit in stand. I’ve been in there since 1983. I sit with Steven Milne, Michael Dick, Malcolm Sinclair and sometimes my brother Ian.

Best game and why?

When we won league at Cove in 2002 - an incredible atmosphere.

Worst game and why? Brora last year in League Cup Final when we should've been out of sight by half time.

Favourite Fraserburgh player of all time and why?

Jimmy Noble. He had so much skill and could beat a player even hardly moving.

Favourite current player?

Got to be Willie West for his versatility and longevity.

If you could sign one HFL player for the Broch who would it be?

Kevin Fraser from Buckie Thistle.

Your all-time Fraserburgh XI?

Billy Gordon, Derek Milne, Willie West, Brian Hay, Grant Campbell, Jamie Beagrie, Scott Murray, Jimmy Noble, Paul Keith, Scott Barbour, Michael Stephen.

Thing you like best about the Club?

The youth system and friendship of the club and the fact players all get a chance. It's one big family from top to bottom.

Favourite Highland League ground apart from Bellslea?

I like going to Deveronvale. They have

a good ground surface and best viewing stand in Highland League.

One thing you'd like to change about football?

I’d like to see refs let the game flow a bit more.

Any other club you support?

I used to support Man Utd when Fergie was there. When he left they became a different club. I prefer watching Liverpool now.

Who's going to win the league this season?

I hope Brora win. I think they are better team than Brechin.

Robbie (second from right) pictured back in 2014 with ex-Broch teammates Kenny Roger, Dougie Milne, Jimmy Noble and George Malley
