CHAIRMAN

MICHAELMURRAY

It would be remiss of me not to begin by congratulating our Under-21s on winning the Aberdeenshire League.

This achievement highlights the strength of our club’s future, and we eagerly anticipate watching these talented young players progress.

Since my last report in January, the fixtures have been coming thick and fast. We have climbed to a stronger league position, secured a place in the semi-final of the Highland League Cup on Friday, February 28th, and reached the final of the Aberdeenshire Shield on March 12th at the Haughs in Turriff.

It is clear to everyone that the team has not rested on its laurels after making us all proud with their performance at Ibrox.

As a chairman in my first season, I could not have wished for a better start, and I look forward to each game as the season unfolds.

Off the pitch, the board has significant work ahead to enhance our ground and facilities. We have received an unexpected windfall, and it is crucial that we invest these funds wisely. I am fully aware that this financial boost will not last forever, so we must use it as a launchpad for the club’s long-term future.

While these improvements will take time and won’t happen overnight, rest assured that we will ensure every penny is spent wisely.

Looking ahead, we have several exciting events in the coming months. We are thrilled to welcome Tam Cowan back to the Supporters' Lounge on March 14th. I am delighted to say the event is a sell-out, and I look forward to what promises to be a fantastic night.

Thank you for your continued support.

I hope we made you feel proud to support this club and that you enjoyed your day out despite the final score

A hugely frustrating start to the month with both scheduled games against Banks o’Dee (Sat 4th) and Rothes (Sat 11th) going off due to the cold weather conditions that brought in the new year.

One positive thing about the Rothes game going off was that our full attention could now turn to our Scottish Cup 4th round tie away to Glasgow Rangers. Even now it still feels surreal to write that.We trained as normal as we didn’t want to do anything too outwith the norm.We went through a lot of stuff on the tactic board of what we wanted the shape to look like on the day. Even the Wednesday we did a little bit, still focussed on the match and then finished the session with our customary small-sided games which are always highly competitive. You would have thought the intensity would have dropped as players try to protect themselves for the big game however this was the opposite, and they even went up a level.

We decided some time ago that we would travel down to Glasgow on the Saturday and stay overnight. The bus was due to leave before noon so I asked if all the players could come through to Fraserburgh so that we could all leave from there together. Once I had this agreed, I heard murmurings that some youngsters were looking to line the streets when the bus left. I then thought it would be what we are all about as a community club if we gave the community the opportunity to come down and spend some time with the players before we set off.Through the world of social media, word spread out, but we were never given any inclination of what response we would get. When I parked up outside Bellslea, there weren’t many cars around and not that many people going around. Initially I thought this wasn’t going to be worthwhile but then I walked into the ground and saw the vast number of kids and parents on the Bellslea pitch waiting for the players to appear. It was truly humbling, and I think gave us all a great sense of purpose in that we weren’t just representing the club that weekend,

but more the complete town.We spent the next hour signing autographs and having pictures taken with so many different ages of kids. Some of the players were more popular than I was as I was always asked“where’s Logan”or where’s Bryan and Fig”.Then when it was time to board the bus, we got an individual good luck and then a collective wave from everyone at Bellslea and the streets that took us out of Fraserburgh. It really was a great occasion for us all.

The bus journey down was relaxed. We had no real time to aim for, more just casually make our way down.We arrived at the Hotel in Stepps at around 3:30pm and managed to get everyone checked in to their room.We met for supper at 6:00pm where we had a treat of a buffet put on for us, all foods carefully screened by Ryan Cowie our adopted nutritionist. Then we held a meeting at 8pm to go over the final details and I took this opportunity to name the starting 11 and the subs for the game. On the Friday, I had to have some of the toughest conversations in football terms that I would ever have.We had a squad of 24 which included some loan players who had just come in and some young players who had been recalled from their loan spells. I could only name 19 of a squad for the match so five were having to miss out.Andy Reid was the only one not quite fit to play so I had to make calls on the other four. Lewis Davidson and his partner had the birth of their second daughter on the Friday so that was more straight forward in that he was needed more elsewhere, although he did manage to join the group for the game and be part of it. I spoke to the other three and I hope they understood my reasoning. The Saturday night decision to name the team came about as we thought players would have a better nights sleep knowing whether they were starting or not and in the case of those not selected to start, it would give them the opportunity to get the disappoint phase out of the way so that, even though not starting, they could enjoy the occasion also.

After a good night’s sleep we had an early meeting with the SFA to go over VAR. It seems it has been a big part of the game now for some time, but I think it was important for them to explain how it would work given that we have never been involved in a game before which has used VAR.Then after breakfast, we checked out, got on the bus, and made our way to Ibrox Stadium. The journey was great, and it was good to try and take everything in. Even walking on to the park with an empty stadium still gives you goosebumps for what is in front of you.The atmosphere started to build, and we were 36,000-ish deep come kick off time. I always leave the dressing room five minutes before we are called. I always think the players are in the zone doing their own thing at this point anyway so won’t be listening to me, so I go out and try and get set for the game. I was standing in the technical area taking it all in and I was relatively calm. Then the announcer came on before Simply The Best rang out from the speakers and it felt like the ground was about to erupt. The atmosphere was brilliant, and I remember telling the players to breath and try to remain calm. Easier said than done, I am sure.

The game itself remains a bit of a blur. I think we did well first half and really frustrated them. Fig had one chance which is all we thought we would get, and he normally is so deadly in that position however his shot deflected wide only for a goal kick to be given. 1-0 down at half time but a decent showing.

Second half was always going to be tough, and tiredness was going to set in at some point. We started to make changes as cramp took its toll and lost a further four goals, with the last one being literally the second last touch of the game. All in all, an unbelievable memory for everyone involved. One that I hope acts as motivation for the players to do all they can to try and get a game like this again. Financially it will be great for the club but the memories it has given us all will be treasured forever.

That wasn’t quite it though as we

had two games still to close out the month, both very tough in their own way.A trip to another Rangers – this time Brora - to take on champions elect in the league. We performed well as we tend to have done up there of late and won the match 3-2 thanks to a late Bryan Hay / Jamie Beagrie / Own Goal. Everyone probably expected us to fall apart now the Rangers game was over however this result reminded everyone what Fraserburgh FC are capable of.

Next was the long-awaited League Cup Quarter Final at Buckie. Nothing much between the teams in the first half however we took control after half time and were relentless in our quest to get into the next round. It took another late goal, this time from Logan Watt to help us win 3-2 and get us into that SemiFinal.A great end to the month and meant we still had two cups and a top 4 league position to chase in the closing months of the campaign.

Just want to end the note on a thank you. Firstly, to Marley SweenieRowe who was recalled from his loan spell with us and now competes in League 2 with Forfar Athletic. We thank him for his contributions to the club. Even in such a short spell he has scored some important goals as well as played a key part in his time with us. All the best with your career Marley and hope you enjoyed your FFC time.

Lastly thank you to all the fans who travelled to Glasgow to support us in the game against Rangers FC. I hope we made you feel proud to support this club and that you enjoyed your day out despite the final score.

We will do everything in our power to keep trying to give you occasions like these to travel to and support us, whether in the Scottish Cup or league games away as far as Wick.Your efforts are not missed by any of us and I just wanted to say an almighty thank you for all you do.

Friday 14th March marks our first social event of the year.

BREEDON Highland LEAGUE

SATURDAY 25TH JANUARY

WILLIE WEST

First of all just wanted to extend congratulations to all of the players and coaches involved in winning the Aberdeenshire League this week. It just goes to show that we are in a good place with good prospects within our youth set-up. Hopefully we can add more to the trophy cabinet before the end of the season.

The past month has been incredibly busy! Ibrox feels like a long time ago now, but the amazing memories will stay with myself and the squad for the rest of our days. It was an unbelievable experience. It might have been due to them winning 5-0 but the Rangers players and the staff were very hospitable post-match.

getting off the Team Bus arriving at Ibrox, walking out to ‘Simply the Best’, holding my breath when Fig nearly scored, seeing my family post-match and getting to applaud the fans at the end of the game. It gives the group so much motivation to continue to be successful and hope lighting strikes a third time in the years ahead! Maybe Parkhead next time though?!

Following that, our domestic campaign has been hectic! Some great results in there with wins at Brora, Buckie, Keith and Deveronvale as well as home wins against Forres and Lossie. Although we were disappointed as a group to lose to Formartine and draw to Wick Academy such is the standards we set ourselves.

The support from the kids and fans who showed up in their numbers was incredible

Leaving the Bellslea in the Saturday morning before the big game it already felt like we were winners. The support from the kids and fans who showed up in their numbers was incredible and so many of them informed us that they were going to the game which was a tremendous effort with such a long distance to go for some of the families.

The day was a surreal experience with so many great memories such as

Mark and Bax have rotated the squad during these games utilising everyone in the group and showing that we have good depth in near every position. Perhaps the only player not to be rotated is our Number 1 Joe Barbour who is proving to be our most important player with Andy still having issues with injuries. Hopefully we can have Andy back fit soon to help us with the run in or else we might need to wrap Joe up in cotton wool!

The goals have been shared between quite a few players this last month which is always a good thing as we have perhaps been reliant on Fig, Butch and Logs in previous months but Beagrie, Aidan and Fraser have chipped in with some important goals of late which will do their confidence no harm in the important times ahead.

I have sat on the sidelines for the most part of this period frustratingly, but it’s been reassuring to see Joshua Hawkins stepping up and putting in good performances, in particular against Turriff where he and Aidan dominated the first half down their side and caused no end of problems.

The group look forward to the next stage in the season with a massive game against Banks of Dee in the Highland League Cup. It is no secret, the desire of everyone in the squad to lift this trophy, and we will be doing all we can to overcome the Dee but are under no illusions of the challenge ahead.

As well as that we want to finish as high as possible in the league and also take another Aberdeenshire trophy

Willie West

home so plenty to look forward to.

In other news, Big Keezo celebrated his 200th appearance and, although he is only 24, it feels like he is one of the old guys already through the time he has been with the club but also because of his maturity and leadership qualities he possesses.

Congratulations to Connor also who celebrated his 100th appearance this year.

We send our best wishes to Josh Bolton who moved on to Inverurie Locos.

Jamie Beagrie has been awarded a testimonial and I look forward to celebrating Jamie’s career during his

upcoming events. Jamie has been such a consistent performer over the years and has a great football brain. Although his previous offshore rotations meant he missed some games it was probably for the best for FFC as I am sure if he hadn’t he would have been playing at a higher level.

Lastly, I just wanted to express my appreciation to the club and “FFC in the Community” for organising and taking part in the Autism Awareness Month in April. It is something very close to my heart and I am looking forward to the game on the 12th of April where we can all raise awareness for a great cause. Just adds further to the love I have for this great club!

As we are about to enter March and the final six weeks of what has already been a season to remember, I wanted to take this opportunity to comment on some general and frequent comments and enquiries we have had on the back of our Scottish Cup tie at Ibrox last month:

All monies due to our Club have been received from both the SFA and Rangers in respect of our Scottish Cup journey this season and in particular our 4th round tie at Ibrox Stadium.

The amount received from the Rangers game will remain confidential between, and within our Board of Directors and our Treasurer.

This injection of cash from the Rangers game is very welcome and it is vital that the opportunity is taken to allocate these funds wisely and prudently.

It is our intention to hold an open event at our Hospitality Lounge in April to provide an update on our Club, with an opportunity for a Q&A too –it’s important that we have an open and transparent relationship with our fan base and the business community that support us, whilst retaining confidentially in the right areas.

As I have mentioned repeatedly in this column, our role as Directors is to ensure our Club has a sustainable business model and is run as a business, to generate the income needed to exceed the ongoing operational costs of our Club with our priority continuing to be youth development, having a competitive 1st Team, and at the same time, ensuring we are

making provision for the non-playing side to include Bellslea Park maintenance and capital improvements.

There have been a number of changes within the Board of Directors at our Club in recent years and on the back of a number of enquiries I’ve had, I’d like to take the opportunity to highlight the current Directors who share the financial and business responsibilities of our Club: https://www.thebroch. online/committee/1029

As you will see from the Club Officials section on our webpage, we have 9 Directors, with Ewan Mowatt, Davie Milne and James Adams Jnr in place before I joined in May 2022. James Adams Snr and Michael Murray joined in 2023

and over the past 12 months Charles West, Lorraine Smith and Peter J Cowe have also joined the Board. So, some specific updates since last month…………..

CLUB 1910:

We will begin our 2025 programme with an “Open Event” in our Hospitality Lounge in April where we will take the opportunity to share an update on our Club with an opportunity for a Q&A.

EVENT SPONSORSHIP:

We still have two opportunities to be our Headline Event Sponsor for the undernoted “fundraisers” in the coming months. We would be delighted to hear from any business or individual who is led to support us financially for these important events in our annual calendar - please get in touch with myself or any of our Directors:

Friday 25th April: Annual Hall of Fame and End of Season Awards Dinner at the Fraserburgh Leisure Centre.

Friday 27 June: A Dinner Dance with a Celebrity guest speaker at the Marcliffe Hotel, Aberdeen – we have engaged an Agency who specialise in

supplying guest speakers and we are currently awaiting confirmation on availability.

SPONSORSHIP

continues to be a key source of annual income generation for our Club and we would love to hear from any business or individual who is led to support us on our journey. We have a number of new opportunities for 2025/26, including the above events, in what is our 115th Anniversary year.

OFFICIAL PARTNERS

are businesses who provide business services to the Club for free or at a discount. This extends to businesses who pay the Club an annual fee to sell FFC branded products as an extension to an existing range.

We are delighted to welcome Alistair Brown https://photogifts.co.uk/ as an Official Merchandise Partner. PhotoGifts are a family run business who offer a range of personalised gifts. Alistair will pay a fee to our Club for every item sold with our Club Logo.

We would welcome a discussion with any business who would like to become an Official Partner with a service

not currently provided by our existing Partners https://www.thebroch. online/partners

ADVERTISING

:

Thank you to David Smith Contractors for becoming our latest business to take an Advertisement Board at Bellslea Park.

We have around 30 spaces around the ground that will hopefully suit every budget – starting from an annual fee of £100 + vat. Please contact us on stephen. sim@fraserburghfc.co.uk to reserve a Board.

NEXT MONTH

In next month’s Bulletin, we will provide a further update on the nonplaying side of our Club as we enter what we expect to be a busy “close season” - please continue to give us feedback on any ideas you have to help us financially or commercially as we journey together. MATTHEW WEST

So much has happened since our jaunt down south to be part of what was a special day for the club at Ibrox.

The youth team were very fortunate to have the club fund a day out to attend the game together. An afternoon in Govan made special by a number of their peers being part of the team on the day. No better way to help motivate and validate the opportunities that can lie ahead of them as they set out on their own careers. It has been great to be out in recent weeks taking some training sessions for local juvenile clubs.

Matthew West

A great opportunity to share some ideas and energy with these kids and ther coaches as they develop the players of the future.

Our U18s have played five games since the last time I wrote. Four of these have been league games with the other a competitive and

worthwhile friendly against local Welfare outfit Invercairn United. The team have shown steady progression throughout these games. It was good to give the opportunity to be involved to several from our U15s pool and help these guys become familiar with the environment.

The most recent match was a narrow 2-1 defeat to Inverurie Locos. Despite the natural frustration of losing to a late penalty, the team performed well on the night in what was a really good advert for the Highland League. It showed all involved the reason for the Youth League’s existence, getting players ready for 3 PM on a Saturday, and learning all the time from the many highs and lows. Throughout the season, but certainly more evident in this recent spell, young Liam Gordon has shown great progress in goal. With young Remi alongside him we

have two great prospects who we are encouraging to keep pushing to improve.

With our nearest challengers dropping points on Monday the Broch are winners of the U21s league. It has been a great campaign for Dean, Alex and the players who have one game remaining against Stonehaven with a chance to go the full season unbeaten. It's important they prepare well for the game and be ready as Stonehaven have had a brilliant season of their own and have seen significant progress.

A great effort - well

done to all involved.

The U21s will play against Leeds University on Sunday March 30th in Friendly. Additional info will be shared on our social media platforms.

We now know our U18s fixtures for the remainder of the season with five of our six games at Bellslea. It would be great to see you come and support the team who have an intention, as always, to provide entertainment.

The home straight is imminent with many games coming at us. We are ready to run, we share optimism.

Take careMatthew

JAMIE BEAGRIE TESTIMONIAL

All at the club were delighted to see the recent launch of Jamie Beagrie’s Testimonial programme.

The 2025/26 season will mark Jamie’s tenth with the club since rejoining in 2016, although his

Broch career can be traced back to 2008 when he first broke into the first team as a 16-year-old.

Spells with Cove, Peterhead, and Turriff broke Jamie’s continuous service with us but haven’t prevented him rapidly closing in on the 300 FFC appearances mark.

In his time at Bellslea, Jamie has collected winners medals in two Aberdeenshire Cup finals, two Aberdeenshire Shield finals, and of course the Highland League championship - a haul that would have undoubtedly been greater if not for his offshore work commitments.

Jamie’s testimonial events kick off with a day of golf at Fraserburgh G.C. on Sunday 20th April, details of which can be found on the next page.

We will finish by congratulating Jamie on his well deserved testimonial year and should you wish to keep abreast of events please follow the JB7 Testimonial pages on Facebook and X.

Referees are a vital part of football and as the Scottish FA seeks to continually grow and develop the Scottish game, there is a constant need to recruit and develop referees.

Referee Associations locally continue to be looking to welcome new members and to this end, we would invite anyone interested to contact the Association which covers matches in their area. All football matches require at least a referee and in certain other fixtures also assistant referees. Therefore, new blood is sought on an ongoing basis.

Refereeing can be a highly rewarding challenge, encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle as well as significantly contributing to the development of the game. Referees operate at all levels – from grassroots football right through to the Scottish Professional Football League and international matches.

The Associations run introductory classes; … when numbers are sufficient, on a class based ‘face to face’ basis, which can be tailored to suit candidates … by Zoom which can also be tailored for those interested.

And in addition, there is also an online course which can be

completed at the candidates own pace, in their own surroundings, over 5 modules, with details on the SFA website.

All courses also have a face-toface session for candidates to provide advice on the practicalities of officiating.

We would be delighted to hear from you and contact details are undernoted. Further details are also on the SFA website in the referee section.

Made his debut back in 2011, then a long spell as understudy to Paul Leask, coupled with loan moves to Fraserburgh United and Maud, made for sporadic first team appearances.

Did however pick up Aberdeenshire Cup winners medals in 2014 and 2015, and an Aberdeenshire Shield in 2016. Played a crucial part in the run in to our 2021/22 Highland League title. Our first choice keeper since 2022, and collected a further Aberdeenshire Cup in that year.

Vastly experienced goalkeeper who joined Nottingham Forest from school before moves to Motherwell and Hibernian. Gained Scottish League

experience with Montrose before embarking on a lengthy Highland League career with Inverurie Locos and Formartine.

Joined the Broch in summer '24, initially on loan from Locos before making the permanent switch.

EDDIE FLINN

Also our goalkeeping coach, Eddie was a youth player with St Johnstone before moving to the Broch in 2014 and becoming a long-term first team squad member.

SAM INGLIS

Young goalkeeper who kept a clean sheet on his debut at Brora as a 16 year old then picked up an Aberdeenshire Shield winners medal against Buckie in only his second appearance. Currently studying in the central belt.

A summer 2017 signing from Turriff United, Lewis spent time with Aberdeen as a youth and also played a season in SPFL League Two with Peterhead.

Played in both the victorious Aberdeenshire trophy finals in 2019/20 and picked up a further Aberdeenshire Cup the season after. Was our regular right-back during the League winning season of 2021/22.

and has gone on to collect six Aberdeenshire Cups, three Aberdeenshire Shields, and a League Championship medal.

KIERAN SIMPSON

A towering centre-back, Kieran is another product of the FFC development side. Made his debut as a 17-year old back in 2018 having been recalled from a loan spell at Bridge of Don Thistle. Forms a formidable partnership with Bryan Hay, and despite his youthful age has already racked up almost 200 first team appearances for the Broch.

PAUL YOUNG

A vastly experienced central midfielder, Paul signed from Turriff United in 2017. Played SPFL football as a teenager with Peterhead. Loan moves to Huntly and Turriff followed before making a permanent move to The Haughs in 2012.

Since signing on at Bellslea, Paul has collected a Highland League championship, three Aberdeenshire Cups, and an Aberdeenshire Shield.

Recently extended his Broch contract through to July 2028, a spell which will also secure a testimonial season.

JAMIE BEAGRIE

In his second spell at Bellslea, Jamie is a combative central midfielder who is also comfortable at centre back.

Was a youth player with Aberdeen prior to initially signing for the Broch in 2008 and becoming a first team regular at the age of 16. Spent time at Cove Rangers, Peterhead, and Turriff United before rejoining Fraserburgh in 2016.

WILLIE WEST

Captain, Hall-of-Famer and our most decorated player ever. Willie made his debut back in 2003, has gone on to

chalk up more than 700 appearances, and is closing in rapidly on Billy Gordon's appearances record. Began his career as a midfielder or forward player, racking up more than 170 goals in the process, but these days operates mainly as left-back or centre-back.

AIDAN SOPEL

Exciting winger who joined the club from Elgin City in 2023. Also had spells with Peterhead and Keith, and spent time on loan at fellow Highland League clubs Huntly and Rothes. Kicked off our 24/25 Scottish Cup run with a hat-trick in Round One.

LIAM STRACHAN

A nimble forward who came through the Broch youth system before making the move to Fraserburgh United. Liam returned to FFC in summer '24. Plays in the advanced wide areas and is an accomplished ball carrier.

All-time record goalscorer who in December '23 passed the record previously held by Michael Stephen. An FFC Youth product, had early spells with Buchanhaven Hearts then Longside in the Juniors before rejoining the Broch in 2011.

Played for Formartine between 2015 and 2018 before returning to his home and going on to collect five Aberdeenshire Cups, three Aberdeenshire Shields, and a Highland League title.

Pacy forward who is gaining a reputation for scoring big cup goals. Spent his youth career with Banks o' Dee and Cove Rangers before joining East End Juniors. Made the move to the Broch in August

2022 and was part of the team that picked up the Aberdeenshire Cup and Shield double in that season.

Versatile midfield player who can also operate across the forward line. Made his debut in 2019 before making a short-term loan move to Keith where he gained vital Highland League experience. Picked up an Aberdeenshire Shield winners medal in the 2023 victory over Buckie Thistle.

Industrious midfielder who initially joined from Deveronvale in 2016. Moved to Huntly for the 2021/22 season but has became a first team mainstay since

rejoining the Broch in August '22. Collected an Aberdeenshire Cup and Shield double in 2019/20 in his first spell with the Broch and has added a further Shield since.

A July 2018 signing from Longside Juniors. Sean has collected three Aberdeenshire Cup winners' medals and grabbed the winner in the 2023 Shield Final against Buckie. Scored 26 goals in our League winning season of '21/22.

Logan Watt celebrates his fine finish in our Shield victory over Turriff. Logan is on a rich vein of goalscoring form, netting seven goals in his last eight appearances.

The under 18’s were off to Banff for the first game of the new year, Deveronvale started brightly but the Broch took the lead from a corner in the 5th minute, Will Sim rose highest in the box and headed home into the bottom right corner of the net, the Vale equalized soon after with a low shot which nestled into the bottom right corner of the net, the Broch's advantage was restored on 38 minutes when Theo Watt smashed a shot past the keeper into the net, Theo then grabbed his second and the Broch’s third on 57 minutes, the Vale could have been back into the game on 80 minutes when they were awarded a penalty, but Liam Gordon's penalty save kept the lead at 3-1, on the stroke of full time Alex Gibb rounded matters off to make it 4-1 and complete the scoring.

First game of the year for the lads had them going off to play Rangers at Ibrox Stadium in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup 4th round, the Supporters club had 3 full busses going down to the Rangers game, we left the Elizabethan at 8 am and we returned at 8.30pm, The Fairfield Club in Govan was our destination before the game for refuelling, thank you to them for having us and laying on the lovely lentil soup and sandwiches, they have replied to our thanks saying that we are welcome back any time we are in the area, many thanks also to Gordon Beagrie who organized our visit to the Fairfield Club.

It was fabulous to see 1700 Broch fans down in our part of the ground and many others in other parts of the stadium, it was very much a family atmosphere with all the kids that we had there, hopefully they will remember this day for ever.

We started the game well and to be only 1 goal down at half time was fantastic, a five goals to nil defeat in the game was a fair result, as we started to run out of steam nearer the end.

It was great to get the chance at the end of the game to thank Mark, the coaching staff and the team for giving us one of the best days out in the club’s history.

Many thanks also to Kineil Coaches and their drivers, Gibby, Michael and Geoff who helped to make it a great day out.

Thanks also to everyone who went down with us, your continued support is very much appreciated.

The under 18’s were off to Westhill to play Westdyke on the Monday night, piles of slowly melting snow were at the side of the all weather pitch, the Broch took the lead in the 3rd minute when Hamish Gordon headed home from a corner, Theo Watt smashed in the second on 11 minutes with a 25 yard free kick which flew into the top left corner of the net, Theo made it 3 from another free kick in the 26th

minute, this time the keeper couldn’t move his feet and the ball seemed to go straight through him into the net, it was 4 nil in the 38th minute when Alexander Johnston headed home from a Theo Watt corner, Owen Pearson made it 5 in the 41st minute when he headed home a Billy Jones cross, Hamish Gorden completed the scoring on the verge of half time when he bulleted a header in from a Corin McDermott’s cross, another 3 points to the lads and a great first half performance.

On the Wednesday night the Keith game was postponed for a 5th time, details to follow for the rearranged match.

On the Saturday we were off to face the league leaders, Brora at Dudgeon Park, with his first goal for the Broch, Fraser Mackie opened the scoring in the 13th minute, the corner flag passes the ball to Bryan Hay, he passes up field to Sean Butcher, he flicks it on to Aidan Sopel who fires the ball through the defensive line, Fraser sprints through and from 20 yards he slots the ball with his left foot past Cameron Mackay into the bottom right corner of the net, Brora equalized in the 16th minute, a corner from the right was headed home by Mark Nicolson, Aidan Sopel put us back ahead in the 49th minute, Aidan takes the ball off Mark Nicholson then races through on goals, he fires the ball from 18 yards with his right foot, the ball goes

through the legs of Cameron Mackay into the centre of the net, Brora were back level in the 55th minute, a free kick was swung into the box, Joe Barbour saved the first attempt but Michael Finnis was on hand to stab the rebound home, the winning goal came for the Broch in the 82nd minute, a Scott Barbour corner was swung into the back post, under pressure Mark Nicolson headed the ball over his own line to give the Broch all 3 points, possibly the most exciting game of the season with Brora slightly unlucky not to take something from the game.

On the Wednesday night we were off to Buckie in the Highland League Cup, Connor Wood opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, Greg Buchan heads the ball up field from a Buckie corner, Aidan Sopel passes the ball up the left wing to Scott Barbour, Scott slots the ball into the box for Connor, he fires the ball into the net off the left hand post with his right foot from 10 yards out, Buckie equalized straight from the restart, Aaron Nicolson heading home 50 seconds after the Broch had found the net, Jack MacIver put Buckie ahead from the penalty spot in the 18th minute, Scott Barbour levelled the scoring in the 55th minute, Joshua Hawkins took a throw in on the left, Aidan Sopel played the ball back to him, he crossed into the box where Innes McKay failed to clear, Scott slammed the ball into the net with his left foot from 6 yards out, the Broch won the tie in the 93rd minute, Jamie Beagrie passed the ball wide left to Scott Barbour, he crossed the

ball into the 6 yard box, Logan Watt stabbed the ball home from 5 yards out, this booked a semifinal match against the Banks O’ Dee on the 28th February.

Our first foots of the year were Forres Mechanics, this did not happen until the 1st February due to weather postponements, Fraser Mackie put us ahead in the 25th minute, Flynn McKay fires in a corner from the right to the near post, Fraser heads it home from 5 yards out, Jamie Beagrie made it 2 in the 52nd minute, a Logan Watt header is cleared away, the ball falls to Jamie on the edge of the box, he chests it down then slams it high into the net with his left foot, Forres were back in the game in the 56th minute, Calum Frame was fed the ball down the right wing, he crossed into the box where Shaun Sutherland swept the ball into the net from 16 yards out with his right foot, the Broch secured all three points when Scott Barbour scored in the 83rd minute, Connor Wood plays the ball wide right to Stuart Laird, he passes the ball forward to the overlapping Greg Buchan, he crosses into the 6-yard box to Scott who knocks it home from close range at the back post.

The under 21’s had a rearranged match against Keith on the Monday night, Flynn McKay opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 19th minute, Callum Kelly scored the only other goal of the game in the 51st minute, Lewis Davidson crossed the ball into the box and Callum was on hand to find the net, another 3 points to the lads, they now need 1 more point to

secure the league title, Stonehaven away is the last game.

After a crazy light show from the Keith floodlights which Zander James helped to fix,“thank you Zander”, our rearranged Aberdeenshire Shield match was able to go ahead 45 minutes late, Aidan Sopel opened the scoring with a great contender for goal of the season in the 3rd minute, Logan Watt moves forward with the ball, he gets tackled and the ball goes to Greg Buchan, he hits a perfect pass out to Aidan on the left wing, he chests it down and runs onto the ball, from 25 yards out he smashes a right foot shot which flies past Craig Reid, the ball is still rising as it flies into the top right-hand corner of the net, Logan Watt adds a second in the 61st minute, Logan clears the ball from a corner up field to Scott Barbour, he passes wide left to Aidan Sopel, he crosses the ball into the path of Logan who had run from box to box, Craig Reid slips and Logan side foots the ball into the empty net with his right foot from 17 yards out, Logan Watt makes the tie safe in the 68th minute, Aidan Sopel took a throw in on the left, he gives the ball to Joshua Hawkins, he turns inside onto his right foot, he swings in an inch perfect cross, Logan heads the ball into the bottom left corner of the net from 12 yards out, we then went into the semi-final where Turriff United away were our opponents.

Mark rung the changes for the Formartine United game on the following Saturday, 2 goals early on, the first from Stuart Smith in the 10th minute and the 2nd

from Graeme Rodger in the 14th minute, gave the lads a mountain to climb, Aidan Sopel got us back into the game in the 83rd minute, Scott Barbour floated in a free kick, the ball sails onto the back post, Aidan stabs the ball home off the left post with his right foot from 4 yards out, unfortunately we were unable to convert any more of the chances we created. Congratulations to young full back John Adam who made his Broch first team debut against Formartine, Johnny has been gaining experience with Longside Juniors this season, he was unfortunate to suffer an injury towards the end of the first period, well done Johnny on making your first team appearance, let’s hope you have many more to come.

The under 18’s were at Turriff in the league on the Monday night, both teams shared eight goals between them, the Broch scorers were Hugo Watt, Theo Watt, Findlay Stephen and Alex Gibb, the draw keeps the young Broch team in the hunt for the League title.

We were away to Turriff on the Wednesday night in the semi-final of the Aberdeenshire Shield, Jamie Beagrie broke the deadlock in the 8th minute, Scott Barbour swings in a cross from the right wing, Lucas Smith and keeper Lee Herbert clash with one another, the ball falls for Jamie who stabs it home with his right foot from 5 yards out, Jamie Beagrie doubled our advantage in the 13th minute, Scott Barbour swings in a corner from the left, Jamie powers a header from 10 yards out which flies past the

unsighted Herbert, Logan Watt made it 3 in the 33rd minute, Aidan Sopel flicks a cross in towards the box, Scott Barbour flicks it on with his head, Logan Watt shields the ball on the edge of the box, he turns and fires a right foot shot into the right corner of the net, Kieran Yeats got a goal back for Turriff in the 38th minute, he sends in a free-kick which is untouched and nestles into the bottom left corner of the net, Scott Barbour restored our 3 goal lead in the 39th minute, Aidan Sopel crosses the ball into the 6-yard box, Scott fires it home from 4 yards out with his left foot, Kieran Yates scored his second of the match from a freekick in the 67th minute, he curled the ball round the wall with his left foot from 19 yards out, we now look forward to the final which will take place on Wednesday 12th March at Turriff with an 8pm kick-off.

We were at home to Wick Academy on the Saturday, Wick scored early when Kyle Henderson rounded Joe Barbour and slotted home in the 2nd minute, Kieran Simpson equalized in the 49th minute, Scott Barbour swings in a corner from the right, Jamie Beagrie flicks it to Kieran, he controls the ball with his head, then acrobatically scissor kicks the ball with his right foot from 9 yards out, the ball flies over Lewis Gallacher into the roof of the net, the Broch created many chances to win the match but there was no more scoring.

The under 18’s were at home to Buchanhaven Hearts on the Monday, an early goal from Alex Gibb in the 6th minute got us off to the perfect start, Stuart

Laird doubled our advantage from the penalty spot in the 35th minute, Alex Gibb increased our lead in the 44th minute when he curled the ball home from the edge of the penalty area, Stuart Laird put us further ahead in the 50th minute from 8 yards out, Hugo Watt completed the scoring in the 76th minute when he tucked the ball home from close range, this win keeps the lads well in the hunt for the league title.

On a windy Wednesday night, we were off to Banff in the league, Jack Mitchell showed the only piece of class in the first half, he danced past Kieran Simpson and slotted the ball past Joe with his right foot from 10 yards out, the Broch had the strong wind at their backs for the second half, Logan Watt levelled the scores in the 48th minute, Scott Barbour swings in a corner from the right wing, Ethan Hopkinson tries to punch the ball out, Logan nods the rebound home from the goal line, Logan Watt bagged a second in the 53rd minute, Keiran Simpson clears the ball up field, Scott Barbour runs onto the loose ball, he passes back to Fraser Mackie, he slots the ball to Logan, he takes a touch then with his left foot, he passes the ball past the keeper into the bottom right-hand corner of the net from 10 yards out, Fraser Mackie made the game safe in the 67th minute, Jamie Beagrie heads the ball over the defence, Fraser runs onto the through ball, he volleys the ball over the keeper with his left foot from 16 yards out to claim all three points.

Congratulations to Kieran Simpson who made his 200th appearance for the Broch in the Deveronvale game, Kieran made his debut for the club on Saturday the 10th February 2018, we were at home to Fort William and won the game by 9 goals to nil, Kieran also scored his first goal for the Broch on his debut, he has gone on to score 18 goals for the club, well done Kieran from all at the supporter’s club, we wish you all the best for the future.

Congratulations also to Connor Wood who made his 100th appearance for the Broch in the Deveronvale game, Connor made his debut for the club on Wednesday the 17th August 2022, we were at home to Inverurie Locos in the quarter final of the Aberdeenshire cup, the game finished in a 1 all draw, we won the game on penalties by 11 goals to 10, Connor scored 1 of the penalties in the shootout, his first goal for the Broch was scored away at Strathspey Thistle in a 9 nil victory on Saturday the 20th August 2022, he has gone on to score 15 goals for the club, well done Connor from all at the supporter’s club, we wish you all the best for the future.

The last league game of the month had Lossiemouth visiting the Bellslea, Logan Watt opened the scoring in the 16th minute, Kieran Simpson sends a long ball down the right wing, Ross Aitken runs onto the ball, he cuts in from the bye line and passes the ball into the box, Logan strokes it home from 8 yards out with his right foot, Aidan Sopel doubled our advantage in the 67th minute, Connor

Wood wins the ball at the half way line, he runs forward with the ball and slots a perfect pass through the Lossie defence, Aidan runs onto the ball and curls it into the bottom right corner of the net from 15 yards out, It was 3 nil soon after when Aidan Sopel scored again in the 70th minute, Connor Wood floats in a deep cross from the right wing, Arran Anderson fumbles the cross and tries to prevent the ball from going for a corner, Aidan robs him of the ball and slots it home from a tight angle with his right foot, Fraser Mackie made it 4 in the 83rd minute, Liam Strachan puts pressure on Lewis McAndrew, his pass back goes straight to Fraser, he runs onto the ball and hits it with his left foot through the legs of Anderson into the net, Bryan Hay completed the scoring in the 93rd minute, Greg Buchan swings in a corner from the left side, Bryan from 3 yards out, volleys the ball with his right foot into the net off the goalkeeper, another valuable 3 points as we start to rise up the league table.

gave us an unassailable lead in the title race, Stonehaven away is the only game left for us, well done to all involved.

WEDNESDAY 19TH FEBRUARY

MEET the ref Alex Ross

What is your job outside of football?

Currently a Student at Aberdeen Uni studying Law.

How long have you been refereeing for?

I’ve been refereeing for 4 years

First match you can remember refereeing?

My first match was an U15’s Juvenile match – Culter Deeside v Deveronvale.

Why did you start refereeing? I started refereeing because I realised by footballing career

wasn’t really going anywhere. I was getting injured regularly and wanted to remain in the game and try to progress via a different route.

Favourite ground to officiate at?

Running the line at Pittodrie was a fantastic experience but on a more regular basis, I’d probably say North Lodge Park, Bellslea, and Station Park.

Best refereeing moment?

My Favourite moment was refereeing the 2024 Aberdeenshire Cup Final. It was the largest crowd I’d officiated in front of, and they created a great atmosphere. The game went well, and I thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.

If you were given the chance to create or amend a rule, what would you choose?

Remove extra time from every competition. It just increases the risk of injury and penalties are much more exciting!

Is there anything at all you think we as clubs could change to encourage more people to become referees?

Respect – The main reason people don’t want to take up refereeing is due to abuse they receive during games. If we can all start to respect each other, we’d definitely begin to

see an increase in referee recruitment.

Any pre match rituals or superstitions?

Not particularly, although I’ll always listen to music on the way to the game. It’s a great way to relax and get in the mood for the occasion.

One piece of advice to a new referee?

Listen to observers and colleagues and attend association training. I’ve lost count of the amount of beneficial advice and tips that have been passed down to me over the years. They’ve been there and done it before, so their advice is invaluable.Association training is also the best way to meet new friends and share your stories from the previous weekend’s fixtures.

Best piece of advice you were given?

Simple yet effective - our Association Assistant Manager Jim Bruce told me that, “one wrong decision can completely change a game”. This advice always encourages me work hard to be in right position to make a decision, as a game that is in your back pocket could very quickly explode if you’re not.

A welcome return to first team action for Lewis Davidson in our recent fixture against Wick Academy. Lewis had been out since March last year and it was great to see him back in the black and white stripes.
