ISLAND DANCE FESTIVAL BY THE NUMBERS
30 YEARS OF IMPACT: FIRE
Whether it’s your first Fire Island Dance Festival or you’ve been with us since the beginning, thank you for being part of this extraordinary legacy. Since 1995, Fire Island Dance Festival has united artists and audiences in a shared commitment to compassion and change. Year after year, you’ve joined Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, in channeling creativity into action and raising vital funds for people living with HIV/AIDS and other critical illnesses nationwide.

As funding resources dwindle, lifesaving organizations across the country hang in the balance. Your continued support becomes not just meaningful, but essential. Thank you for 30 years of heart, art and impact.
July 19, 2025
Dear friends,
A lot has changed in the Pines over the last 30 years. Storefronts have shifted, new homes have risen and the shoreline continues to reshape itself with each passing tide.
But one thing remains constant: the spirit and compassion of this community. That enduring commitment brings us to this moment - the 30th anniversary of Fire Island Dance Festival.
The festival began in 1995 as a desperate response to help our friends and chosen family dying from HIV and AIDS. While the world has changed in the decades since - and HIV is no longer the death sentence it once was for those with access to quality care and lifesaving medications - our LGBTQ+ community continues to live with fear.
Beyond the haven of hope that is the Pines, devastating budget cuts threaten organizations across the country, many of which provide essential services to LGBTQ+ communities.
But just as this community rose up 30 years ago, you continue to respond with action and compassion. Your support of Dancers Responding to AIDS and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS ensures people in the dance and theater communities, and millions more in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., receive lifesaving meals and medication, health care and hope.
When others turned their backs, you showed up - 30 years ago, and still today.
Thank you to the dancers, choreographers and companies who are sharing their talent to make a difference. Art is inherently activism, and you are transforming this corner of the bay into a space for creation, refuge and change.
To our sponsors, Leadership Supporters, ticket buyers and generous providers of the services and housing on the island: thank you. Your commitment is changing lives every single day.
And to the members of the Fire Island Dance Festival Committee and this year’s Benefit Committee - your dedication is the beating heart of this festival. We extend our deepest gratitude.
The tides may shift, the Pines may change, but your compassion has never wavered. Thank you for being part of this extraordinary milestone, and for continuing to stand with us - now, and for every season to come.

Dear Fire Island Dance Festival Attendees,
On behalf of the Fire Island Pines community, I am honored to welcome you to the 30th anniversary of the Fire Island Dance Festival !
For three decades, this extraordinary festival has united dancers, artists, and community members in support of Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. What began as a bold act of compassion during the darkest days of the AIDS crisis has grown into a powerful tradition of generosity and visibility—one that continues to uplift and sustain those affected by HIV/AIDS, as well as other critical health and social challenges.
This year’s milestone comes at a time of renewed urgency. As the LGBTQ+ community faces escalating threats to our rights, safety, and dignity, our gathering here takes on even deeper significance. In the face of fear and division, we respond with art, with love, and with fierce solidarity. Your presence and your support are not only acts of celebration, they are also acts of resistance.
The performances you’ll experience this weekend reflect the heart and soul of Fire Island Pines. Thanks to DRA and to all of you, the spirit of compassion and community remains as vital as ever.
Thank you for being here, for standing with us, and for helping to keep the Fire Island Dance Festival a beacon of hope, strength, and joy. May this weekend inspire us all to keep dancing, keep giving, and keep fighting for a more just and inclusive world.
With gratitude and pride,
Henry Robin President

As of July 1, 2025
Your generosity, passion and presence have fueled Dancers Responding to AIDS since the beginning. You’ve helped transform a moment of inspiration - sparked in a New York City apartment in 1991 when a group of dancers asked how they could help friends and colleagues facing the AIDS crisis - into a decades-strong movement of care and action.
Your support of Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, has made possible lifesaving services for hundreds of thousands of people. You’ve helped provide healthy meals, access to medication, mental health counseling, emergency financial aid and so much more support for people living with HIV/AIDS and other critical illnesses.
Your support funds critical programs of the Entertainment Community Fund, including The Friedman Health Center, the HIV/AIDS Initiative, the Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative and The Dancers’ Resource, and provides grants to more than 450 social service organizations across all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. In urgent moments, you’ve also made it possible for Broadway Cares to respond with emergency humanitarian aid here and around the world.
This weekend, as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of Fire Island Dance Festival, we celebrate you - your heart, your hope, your belief that what we do together matters. And we are so grateful you continue to show up, year after year, to make a difference.
