BRAVA! BRAVO! BRAVISSIMO!
Once again, we humbly thank our friends at BROADWAY CARES and THE CENTER for their unending service to our communities.
—Ted Snowdon & Duffy Violante
Dear friends,
On behalf of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center (The Center), we are thrilled to welcome you to this year’s soul-stirring edition of Broadway Backwards
Outside the doors of the Gershwin Theatre, our community faces relentless challenges. Vital programs for LGBTQ+ youth and families are being cut or thrown into limbo. Our identities are questioned. Our safety is at risk.
That’s why your support of Broadway Cares and The Center means more than ever before. For the next two-and-a-half hours, we invite you to leave fear and hate behind and embrace the warmth, joy and love radiating through these legendary walls. You are safe. You are welcome.
Broadway Backwards unites our two organizations in a shared mission: creating a safer, more inclusive world. Whether by providing essential services for people living with HIV/AIDS and other critical illnesses or offering lifesaving resources to LGBTQ+ youth and those in recovery, Broadway Cares and The Center ensure everyone in our community receives the support they need year-round.
In addition to providing lifesaving programs such as mental health counseling, HIV and AIDS services and prevention, youth programming, substance use treatment and economic initiatives, The Center stands as a vibrant hub for LGBTQ+ culture in New York City, showcasing a diverse range of artistic expressions — from film premieres and musical talents to literary discussions and theatrical presentations. Founded in 1983 at the height of the AIDS epidemic, The Center is a safe space for all LGBTQ+ New Yorkers and empowers them to lead healthy, successful lives.
At Broadway Cares, your generosity supports health clinics, food pantries, meal delivery organizations, emergency financial assistance and housing programs making a lifesaving difference for millions across New York City and in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. Broadway Cares is also the largest financial supporter of the Entertainment Community Fund, which provides essential support to the entertainment industry. And when disaster strikes, your support enables immediate action — like the $500,000 in emergency grants awarded this year to help residents and first responders affected by the devastating California wildfires.
Tonight, by celebrating love, freedom and equity, you are fueling real change for LGBTQ+ individuals and families — from the bright lights of Broadway to communities across the country. Thank you for standing with us, for sharing the love and for making a lasting impact.
Sincerely,
Danny Whitman

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center
Dear friends,
Where do we go from here? What is the path? It’s not as easy as following the yellow brick road, is it?
In these trying days, it is so easy to get lost, to wander off the road into an evil forest, fall asleep with the help of some poppies or just go off alone.
But when we walk our own path of isolation, we become even more vulnerable to those who deem themselves “Great and Powerful.”
But together… together, we are smarter. Together we are braver. Together, our hearts unite to form that glorious word, community.
Remember, Dorothy had friends.
That is what tonight - and the days ahead - are about. Finding our way, but more importantly, finding each other, proving we are stronger as a community.
This evening, we hope to both entertain and reflect - to look deep into that crystal ball to see who we are, what we do right and what we can do better. Then, we can then all come out of Oz together - wiser, with more courage and heart. More united than before, dragging that rainbow behind us in fabulous red pumps!
My dear community, thank you for joining us tonight at the beautiful Gershwin Theatre for Broadway Backwards and for so generously supporting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center. It is an honor to spend this evening with you.
Sincerely,
Robert Bartley Director
P.S. If you are moved by tonight’s performances and want to make an even bigger impact on our beloved community, please consider donating by scanning this QR code. Thank you in advance for your compassion.
Congratulations to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Center on another amazing evening!
Thank you to the staff, performers & volunteers who worked so hard on Broadway Backwards.
