What is Wishbone Day? Every year, on 6th May, people come together and celebrate Wishbone Day - an international awareness-raising day for Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), a rare genetic bone disorder characterised by fragile bones that break easily. It is also known as brittle bone disease.

Wishbone Day aims to highlight the experiences, strengths and challenges of people living with OI.

Supporting Wishbone Day on Social Media Social media is a great and simple way to raise awareness of Wishbone Day and OI. Here’s how you can take part: Sharing a Photo Show your support for those living with OI in your community by sharing a photo on social media (always make sure you have appropriate permissions if your own photo includes others).It could be one of our downloadable graphics, or a photo of yourself in the iconic Wishbone yellow - whatever you like! Use the hashtag #WishboneDay and tag us via @brittlebonesociety Downloadable Instagram Graphic Downloadable Facebook/LinkedIn/X Graphic Follow BBS on Social Media Follow BBS social media accounts to keep up to date with our Wishbone Day campaign. Like, comment and share our posts to increase engagement and raise awareness of OI!

Change your Facebook Profile & Cover Picture You can update your profile picture with our Wishbone Day themed frame to show your support for OI. Just click here & follow the steps to light up your profile yellow. We also have a Wishbone Day cover photo which you can download for your profile.

Turn it Yellow on Wishbone Day Wishbone Day is characterised by the colour yellow, alongside the Wishbone Day logo.

Show your support for people living with OI by incorporating the colour yellow into the 6th of May - whether it takes place at work, in school, or within your local community.

There are many ways you can do this, these include:

Turn it Yellow!

Integrating yellow into your awarenessraising activities is a straightforward yet impactful way to demonstrate solidarity and help draw attention to the OI community.

Ways to Make it Yellow Wear Yellow - Don your best yellow clothing, from t-shirts to socks, show off your yellow!

Get your workplace or school involved too!

Bake Yellow - Channel your inner baker and create a bake themed with the Wishbone Day colours.

Knit Yellow - Show your support for Wishbone Day by knitting or crocheting something yellow - you could even include a wishbone!

Dye it Yellow - If you are feeling adventurous, you could dye your hair yellow to show your support for Wishbone Day!

Supporting Wishbone Day Printable Resources

You can help raise awareness of OI by sharing our resources. We offer a selection of leaflets and factsheets designed to support, educate, and inform people about the condition.

Our range of resources include: Factsheet on OI Wishbone Day Awareness Poster Brittle Bone Society Leaflet Brittle Bone Society General Awareness Poster Print these off and display them at your local community centre, school, library, coffee shop etc. They are a great way to raise awareness locally amongst the community!

Wishbone Day Merchandise We have a range of Wishbone Day merchandise available to order. These include wristbands, stickers and fuzzy bugs with the iconic yellow wishbone colour. This range of merchandise is a great method of raising awareness of OI, whether you wear your sticker and wristband on the 6th May or share the items around your friends and family - there are many ways to spread the message of Wishbone Day! Running Your Wishbone Day Event You may want to raise awareness of OI on Wishbone Day by organising an in-person or online event. Here are some ideas that may interest you: Run an information stall Hold a wear yellow day at your school, university or work.

Raise awareness on a livestream Organise a sporting event, e.g. a walk If you are planning an event, get in touch with the BBS via admin@brittlebone.org .

We may be able to supply informational resources or Wishbone Day merchandise where appropriate.

We would also love to see photos from your event, remember to get permissions and share these on social media platforms, or send them on to us! Use the hashtag #WishboneDay and tag @brittlebonesociety

Promoting the Event Once you have organised your event, you may want to promote it to your friends, family and community. You could post on social media, make a flyer or write to your local newspapers and radio stations. You could use our downloadable Wishbone Day social media graphics and posters. These can be found on our website.
