Left: Mary Pearson made the long journey from Midlothian to win the Petplan Equine Novice Silver Championship on the five-year-old Spielrencio (by Spielberg). Freelance rider and groom Mary trains with Karen Dewar and will also be aiming Fudge, as he’s known at home, at young horse classes this year.

Right: Sophie Lawson and Llanarth Majestic topped a class of 31 to win the Petplan Equine Novice Bronze Championship. Owned by Hannah Brock, Llanarth Majestic was originally purchased for a showing career but the Welsh gelding demonstrated a natural talent for dressage, and with Sophie, made his Area Festivals debut this year.
