Promoting the full supply chain of the UK coatings industry

BCF continues to punch above its weight by showing leadership in the supply chain for both the chemical industry, printing industry and manufacturing in general.

The impact of our members’ products on the UK economy is hugely significant. An estimated 7% of GDP depends on our members’ products. The primary sectors are manufacturing, construction and the printing industry, totalling £297 billion, with 108,000 businesses employing 1.2 million workers.

Being the key point of contact for issues relating to all facets of the paints, coatings, printing inks and wallcovering industries across the value chain, both upstream and downstream, requires continual maintenance of our network and influence with other organisations.

We achieve this through various efforts:

• President of the World Coatings Council

• Current chair of the Alliance of Chemical Associations, 15 chemical industry associations across the supply chain

• Chair of RSC Surface Coatings Special Interest Group

• Member of the UK Government Defra UK REACH Oversight Group, with CIA and CBA

• Proactive member and ex chair (2016-18) of the Graphics and Print Media Alliance, with 10 print industry supply chain associations

• Recent chair (2017-19) of the REACH Industry Cross Sector Group

• Proactive and leadership role in both CEPE/EuPIA

• Proactive member of the UK Chemical Stakeholder Forum

• Board member of Two Sides, charity to promote sustainability of print/paper

• Board member of Construction Products Association Trade Association Council

• Active members of CBI, The Packaging Federation and Make UK

• Member of the Surface Engineering Advanced Coatings (SEAC) Leadership Forum

• Board member of the Trade Association Forum

• Proactive social media and public relations activity to show leadership

• Being visible and engaged with the UK Government on key issues affecting the industry
