Thoughts from the Chair

As I write this we are returning to a sort

of normal activity whilst COVID-19 continues around us and throughout the world.
However, I fear this will be ‘a troubled peace’.
The Society has continued its activities through virtual meetings and recently held its slightly belated AGM. The Honorary Secretary’s report for this can be read on page 6.
We will be sorry to be saying farewell to Nick Fitzpatrick as treasurer. He has done a great amount of work for the Society, simplifying and clarifying our accounts. We thank him for this and wish him well, but, we now need a successor. Volunteers please.
Continuing on a financial theme, I must express my sincere thanks to Ian Southcott who, at my request, chaired a small group of involved parties to work on clarifying the mix of monies and responsibilities relating to the Society, the Sports Club, the School and the all-weather pitch (AWP). Success was achieved and a detailed report produced for posterity.
We are hoping that ‘live’ events can resume in the Autumn and Marcus Cryer is working alongside Nadine, Pete and Caitlin on these running forwards to the Annual Dinner next March.
Mike Burmester’s skilful management of the luncheon club must be noted. We have had some spectacular OB guest speakers and attracted an international attendance. This shows the ‘silver lining’ of the virtual meeting. However, its simplicity sadly did not attract very many more UKbased OBs.
I will end by thanking the committee for its input and industry and doubly thanking Caitlin and Pete, both committee members, for all their work in the office.
