POLICE, CRIME & ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR UPDATE 4th - 18th August
EXTINCTION REBELLION PROTESTS A policing plan is being developed to manage four days of protest activity by Extinction Rebellion (XR) over the bank holiday weekend of August 28th to 31st. This will be a local action scheduled to precede national protests in London, Manchester and Cardiff that will commence on September 1st. It is believed that each day will be themed around specific issues
POLICING PROTESTS On learning of the planned XR protest, an initial assessment was made and the likely scale of the event made it suitable for a formal command structure to be applied. A Gold Commander is setting the strategic objectives, with a Silver Commander writing the tactical policing plan and a Bronze Commander running things on the ground during the event. Protest Liaison Officers are already in contact with XR representatives to understand their plan for the week
and how peaceful and lawful protests can be facilitated. The information received through this and other channels will guide the Silver Commander as to what resources will be needed to police the protest. This may include Neighbourhood Officers, Cycle Teams, Public Order Officers, police dogs and horses. The team will continue to share information about the protest activity to effectively reduce the impact and issues caused.
which could include fossil fuels, financial services and aviation. The police will be working hard to minimise the impact caused for those living, working and visiting the city during the protest activity. It is not anticipated that numbers attending these protests will be anywhere near that seen for the ‘Summer Uprising’ in 2019. However, it is an event that local businesses should be aware of.
