POLICE, CRIME & ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR UPDATE 7TH JULY - 20TH JULY 2021

CRIME OVERVIEW Crime reported has increased by 20 in the last 2 weeks. Theft offences have increased from 61 reported offences to 75, however, violence against the person has reduced from 68 to 65. In the same twoweek period in 2020 there were 185 crimes reported which was 24% fewer than this year. This is likely due to lockdown easing and more people returning to pre-lockdown life. There has been an increase in theft from vehicle offences at car parks across the city so we are encouraging people who use them to secure their vehicles and not to

leave valuables on display. There have been 136 ASB incidents reported with the largest volumes reported in Harbourside and Old City. This is likely due to the football and COVID restrictions

BIKE THEFT Thefts of pedal bikes in the city centre have been a growing issue again for the police in recent weeks. One brazen thief even stole a bike from outside the Bridewell Police station, central Bristol, during the hours of darkness. Fortunately, the incident was captured on CCTV and enquiries are ongoing to catch the culprit. Offenders often use bolt croppers usually concealed in bags and backpacks in the commission of the offence. Over the last week, due to a good piece of proactive policing, officers seized a dozen suspected stolen pedal bikes

from an address in North Bristol. Enquiries are ongoing to trace and arrest 1 suspect at this time and a further second suspect should be identified shortly. A number of these seized bikes have been confirmed as stolen and the original owners of the others are yet to be confirmed. The police have already issued a press release over the matter. One of the seized bikes was valued at approximately £3,000 making such thefts a lucrative trade. In light of the above, Police are reiterating their advice to bike owners to invest in good quality, strong bike locks.

easing as it is mostly street ASB reported during this time. Bicycle theft is generally on the rise again, so please remember to lock your bike using a good solid lock or multiple locks in a secure place.
