The Chronicles

STEPHANIE LAKE COMPANY

Pulsing with energy and sensuality, The Chronicles is

an epic show that explores the cycles of life and the inevitability of

change.

Twelve of the country’s top contemporary dancers meet a masterful electro-acoustic score by Robin Fox, which blends driving rhythms with the stirring, ethereal sounds of a children’s choir (Voices of Birralee) and singer Oliver Mann performing live on stage in a blood-pumping performance that grapples with life, mortality, and what it means to be human.

Stephanie Lake is one of Australia’s most prolific visionaries of contemporary dance. Lake’s choreography — her signature blend of explosive dynamism and poetic introspection — navigates the cycles of life in The Chronicles with tenderness and power.

From the Director

Welcome to The Chronicles. We hope you love the show.

From the womb to the tomb. That’s how composer Robin Fox described The Chronicles one day, and it feels entirely apt. Starting from the tiniest embryonic movement, through to explosive, pulsating dancing full of life-force, and all the way back to the final quiet, this piece grapples with life and death and all that lies in between.

When creating The Chronicles, I was thinking about the things we leave behind and the ways in which we, as humans, destroy and rebuild in a constant cycle. Most of all, I have been thinking about our one precious life.

Creating The Chronicles has been an enormous and joyful team endeavour. I’m moved and forever grateful to everyone who’s made it happen. To the extraordinary dancers, singers, collaborators, and entire team behind the scenes — a heartfelt thank you.
