Bring your creations to life: Learn why intellectual property matters -with André Gallant and Nicolas Déziel

April 6 at 1:30 p.m. ADT We are thrilled to announce our next speaker series session with André Gallant and Nicolas Déziel. This session will cover the following five different types of intellectual property (IP) rights: trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs, trade secrets and patents. From protecting your business name, logo or slogan to the information on your business website or secret internal information, to other ideas, artistic creations, inventions and innovations, IP rights are very important. This session is offered by Canadian Intellectual Property Office. This session is most relevant for Grade 6 and above.

INSPIRATION MAKER: Brilliant Labs Magazine APRIL 2023

This is the year of Brilliance! The greatest showcase of innovation and creativity is coming to you in May in the Greater Moncton area.

The event will be showcasing projects from the 4 Atlantic provinces where makers from community, industry and schools all come together to share the stories of their creations. These stories include the tools they used and the materials they manipulated to create their masterpieces. This, is a celebration not to be missed.

The Innovation and Creativity in Education Award

We are seeking nominations for educators and administrators for The Innovation and Creativity in Education Award. The award is presented to a teacher or principal who demonstrates the pedagogical practices and leadership that enables students to develop new digital skills, the problem-solving skills, and the ideas necessary to create, innovate, and inspire a future of socially and environmentally responsible and sustainable growth. Innovative Fashion

Join us in this challenge to discover many ways to innovate fashion. We will introduce ways to make fashion projects with responsive materials that augment the sensory and functional capabilities of the bodies. Brilliant Labs Sessions

March Break camps in the Saint John area were a success this year, with sessions at the Carleton Community Centre, Saint John Public Library, and the Brundage Point River Centre. We introduced a variety of new youth to technologies they may not have had the chance to work with before. Thank you to all our partners for giving us the chance to work with your community in this way!

Project Highlight

HAMMOND RIVER VALLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL’S SCHOOL WIDE CARDBOARD CASTLE PROJECT A collaborative effort between the students and teachers, this project has involved creating a large-scale cardboard castle to teach about medieval times. The community has pulled together a massive amount of cardboard for this project so that the school would have the materials on hand needed to complete this endeavour. While the younger students have worked on construction, the older students have begun to add technology to the project as well. A motor powered drawbridge using a b.Board and Scratch soundboard, among other ideas have been considered to be added to this project.

Inspiration Maker This year Brilliant Labs is looking for those teachers who inspire others to be their best and who are taking chances to try new things to educate students. We're pleased to share this Nova Scotia's "Inspiration Maker!"

WHO: CLAUDIA HOOPER SCHOOL: HAMMOND RIVER VALLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL It can be difficult to grow a makerspace from scratch in a new school but Claudia Hooper, a 5th grade teacher at Hammond River Valley Elementary School, has taken this challenge head on. She has worked tirelessly to coordinate and organize the beginnings of their makerspace. Without her dedication this project could never have gotten off the ground. Claudia puts forward this effort first and foremost for her students, most of whom had their education disrupted by the pandemic. Giving these students a chance to experience and experiment with new technologies has been a driving motivation for her over this year.
