INFORMATION AND INSTALLATION TIPS
HEAT LAMPS
Heat Lamps have no warm up period because the infra-red lamps provide instantaneous heat, and are designed to heat you and not your bathroom. Also, to get the full benefit of infra-red warmth, stand directly under the heat lamps.
The half heat function is available on the 4 lamp models, and is another energy saving feature, allowing you to adjust the heat level to suit prevailing conditions or personal preference.
POSITIVE TEMPERATURE COEFFICIENT (PTC) FAN HEAT
Unlike IR heat lamps, models like the Nevada, Solace and Solace XL are designed to warm the room, essentially acting like a room heater.
VENTILATION
To ensure optimum performance of the exhaust fan, it is essential that there is adequate air flow into your bathroom to help the exhaust fan to quickly remove steam while you shower. It works by drawing steam-laden air from the room, and as with all exhaust fans it is essential that sufficient air inlet is provided. Ensure adequate inlets exist through windows, vents or under the door. Air flow path from inlet to fan should ideally pass over the steam source.
NOISE
All exhaust fans produced some noise due to the rapid movement of air through vents. This is normal and is not a defect of the product.
INSTALLATION GUIDE & TIPS
• For safety reasons it is not recommended to install bathroom heaters above shower recess. For optimum results, it should be installed directly above where you normally dry yourself.
• For larger bathrooms, it is recommended to install additional ventilation, such as stand-alone exhaust fans. Make sure to check our recommended room size information.
• Always check the size and depth of your roof cavity before selecting the heaters/exhaust fans to install.
• If you are replacing an existing heater/exhaust fan, make sure your new models can cover and fit the cut-out hole on your ceiling.
• Some of our exhaust fans have IPX4 Rated, which means they are safe to be installed directly above shower.
• Majority of our bathroom heaters and exhaust fans can be ducted. If you are using ducting, make sure to keep it as short as possible, and avoid any bends/corners.
• And finally, all our bathroom heaters and exhaust fans are design for ceiling installation only and are not suitable for wall.
WHAT IS NCC (NATIONAL CONSTRUCTION CODE)?
The National Construction Code (NCC) is Australia’s primary set of technical design and construction provisions for buildings. It’s a performance-based code, meaning it sets minimum requirements that buildings must meet, rather than dictating specific materials or methods. It was adopted by all states and territories in 2023.
HOW DOES IT AFFECT MY VENTILATION REQUIREMENTS?
Since 2019, NCC has introduced changes to the way exhausted air is ventilated into the roof space. This change has altered both the necessary specifications for your ventilation system and the process for its installation.
Clause 10.8.2 Exhaust systems states:
• Minimum 25 L/s (90m3/hr) for a bathroom or sanitary compartment
• Minimum 40 L/s (144m3/hr) for a kitchen or laundry
• Exhaust from a kitchen, kitchen range hood, bathroom, sanitary compartment or laundry must discharge directly or via a shaft or duct to outdoor air
• An exhaust system that is not run continuously and is serving a bathroom or sanitary compartment that has no natural ventilation (example, windows), must:
- Be interlocked with the room’s light switch;
- Include a run-on timer so that the exhaust system continues to operate for 10 minutes after being turned off.

A good ventilation system provides fresh air and removes problems such as condensation, humidity, mould, allergies and odours. Poor air quality will potentially lead to bad health and structural building damage. A proper ventilated home will provide a comfortable & healthier environment for residents.

INSTALLATION LOCATION
After picking the exhaust fan, the next important step is to choose the right location to install. The placement of your exhaust fan is very important to maximize the performance of the fan, and your ventilation needs. Follow the guidelines below:
1. Exhaust fans should be positioned as far away as possible from source of fresh air (windows, doors), but to be as close to source of exhausted air (steam, shower vapour, odours). This makes the extraction more effective and faster.
2. Check the required length of duct needed. It is best to use as short as possible and avoid bends and turns. The longer the duct means higher pressure and lower airflow.
3. If you have a mirror, try to install the exhaust fan as close to the mirror to avoid fogging.
4. Always allow fresh air to come into the room, as it serves as a replacement for extracted air.
5. For higher ceilings and open showers, it is recommended to use a bigger and more powerful exhaust fan, such as the Promax or Blizzard range.
6. Before installing, remember to check for any physical obstructions above the ceiling (joist, cables, pipes, etc).

CHOOSING THE RIGHT BATHROOM HEATER
Bathroom heaters can provide a cozy, dry, warm and comfortable environment in your bathrooms or ensuites during colder months. Not only that, they also provide versatility functions such as exhaust ventilation and lighting, without the need for extra installation on your ceiling. That’s a Brilliant solution!
Before you choose your bathroom heaters, it is important to know the types you are installing. Here’s a comparison of the types of heaters available:

• Provides instant heat to the surface and body. It is important to know that it does not warm the air.
FAN HEAT
• Blows hot air to circulate the room. Perfect for users who like to walk into a warm room before showers.
IP RATINGS
HOW DO IP RATINGS RELATE TO A BATHROOM?
IP rating stands for ‘Ingress Protection rating’ and this helps determine where electrical products can go in particular bathroom zones. For bathroom related products it often refers to lighting, exhaust fans and bathroom heater units.
An IP (Ingress Protection) number or code is used in Australia to specify the protection of enclosures around electronic products with regard to moisture or water ingress. These ratings are determined by specific tests.
IP RATINGS EXPLAINED
The IP (Ingress Protection) number is composed of two numbers:
• The first number ranges from 0 - 6. This refers to the level of protection against solid foreign bodies such as dust.
• The second number ranges from 0 - 8. This refers to the level of protection against water.
The higher the number, the better the protection. For example, IP44 is protected against penetration of solid objects up over 1mm and from splashes of water. An IP67 light fixture, meanwhile, is completely dust tight and can withstand temporary water immersion. Only a rating of IP68 bathroom lighting and electricals are water resistant against long periods of immersion.
The type of product that requires an IP rating in the bathroom does vary, but generally it’s anything that uses electricity. This could be any sort of lighting or exhaust fan fitted on the ceiling or wall. You need to know the minimum rating required in your chosen zone to make sure you are fitting products safely and legally in your bathroom.
IP ZONES
WHAT ARE BATHROOM IP ZONES?
Bathroom zones are areas where electrical products must offer a certain degree of protection against water. The bathroom zone number refers to the amount of water likely to be present. The lower the zone number, the higher the IP rating needs to be. For example, Zone 0 covers areas inside baths or showers. These areas must have a particular minimum IP rating that protects against water immersion - in this case, IP67.
Zone 0
Zone 0 is inside the bath or shower itself. Any fitting used in this bathroom zone must be low voltage, (max 12V) and be rated at least IP67 which is total immersion proof. (We do not currently have any fittings that are suitable for Zone 0)
Zone 1
Zone 1 is the area above the bath to a height of 2.25m from the floor. An IP65 rating is recommended.
Zone 2
Zone 2 is an area stretching 0.6m outside the perimeter of the bath and to a height of 2.25m from the floor. In these bathroom zones an IP rating of at least IP44 is required. In addition, it is good practice to consider the area around a wash basin, within a 60cm radius of any tap, to be considered as Zone 2.
OUTSIDE ZONES
‘Outside Zone’ is anywhere outside zones 0, 1, and 2 (subject to specific limits) and where no water jet is likely to be used. No IP rating is required. However, if there is a likelihood of water jets being used for cleaning purposes in Zones 1, 2 and 3, a fitting rated to a minimum IP65 must be used.
