(NAPSA)-If you’re like most Americans, you like to feel connected: to the past, to a place and to others. Discovering your family history can be a rewarding way to establish those connections and help uncover who you are and where you came from. It can start simply by identifying who is in your extended family. You may be able to find the names of your ancestors-grandmothers, uncles, cousins-going back hundreds of years. Next, you can get to know them, learn where they were born, whom they married, how they made a living, where they lived and how they died. The ability to make such connections is getting an unprecedented boost this year with the release of the 1940 U.S. Census. Research

shows that 87 percent of Americans alive today should be able to find a relative in the 1940 Census. That’s almost 275 million people who have a connection to these records. This is the census of The Greatest Generation. It showed 16 million American men and women safe at home on the brink of joining the deadliest war in human history. For the more than 400,000 who never returned from World War II, it’s the last census to record their names. The census tells the story of a country grappling with the greatest economic hardship it had ever known, something many find particularly relevant today, as the country starts to emerge from its current economic troubles. Because modern technology lets you access the census at home as never before, Tim Sullivan, the president and CEO of Ancestry.com, the world’s largest

A CHRISTIAN RESPONSE OF SHELTER AND SERVICE

Americans can get help digging for their roots now that the 1940 U.S. Census is available, free, online. online family history resource, says his company has made the 1940 Census free to search at www.ancestry.com/1940. Millions of people can literally sit down with neighbors, friends or relatives who were actually there in 1940, find the census page with their name on it, and get them talking. You’ll find an address for their home, names of family and neighbors. You’ll see the highest grade they had completed in school and the family’s yearly income in 1939. While they talk, you may get

to know them better and get a better understanding of that place in time. You may even get to know a little more about yourself and how you fit into the larger arc of your family’s history and the world’s. For example, Sharon Harris had only been looking at the 1940 Census for a brief time on Ancestry.com before she came across a record of her uncle. She couldn’t believe her luck: Not only had she found him quickly, but he was married to someone she didn’t recognize. This short search into the new census has already given her a clue to an aunt that Harris never knew about. Next on her list for discovery is her family’s biggest mystery: her great grandfather’s disappearance in the 1930s. It could help you understandand share with your family-the essential human question of who you are and where you came from

December 2 - 8 ARIES – Mar 21/Apr 20 Aries, avoid taking on more than you can handle at work and home this week. When tackling tasks, don't be afraid to ask for and accept help. TAURUS – April 21/May 21 Family and romantic endeavors may have been put aside while work issues have been at the forefront, Taurus. It is time to shift priorities. GEMINI – May 22/Jun 21 Gemini, there's not much you can do to change the course of this week's events. You might want to consider swimming with the current instead of against it. CANCER – June 22/July 22 Cancer, overanalyzing your workload is not going to make it disappear any faster. Therefore, simply take your assignments at face value and just get started. LEO – July 23/August 23 New experiences can be scary at first, but many times you will find that they are opportunities to learn and grow, Leo. Take full advantage of all opportunities this week. VIRGO – Aug 24/Sept 22 Virgo, although it seems like you have most of your financial woes worked out, now is not the time to get too cocky with spending. Being conservative is the way to go. LIBRA – Sept 23/Oct 23 Libra, career developments have you riding high and you're anxious to share your news with the world. This enthusiasm can be a good catalyst for change with others. SCORPIO – Oct 24/Nov 22 Scorpio, success may not come easy with a project you're working on. But rest easy and take solace knowing you have tried things outside of your comfort zone. SAGITTARIUS – Nov 23/Dec 21 Sagittarius, avoid confrontations at all costs, as this week you will not come out victorious. Keep a low profile and don't ruffle any feathers. CAPRICORN – Dec 22/Jan 20 Capricorn, if you think about things too long, there's a good chance you won't act at all. Instead, consider your options quickly and then get going on your plans. AQUARIUS – Jan 21/Feb 18 Quality time spent at home or with the family has buoyed your spirits, Aquarius. The next step on your relaxation journey is to book a vacation to a warm area of the world. PISCES – Feb 19/Mar20 Don't underestimate your ability to garner quite a following, Pisces. There are many people just waiting to hear what you have to say next.

December 9 - 15

December 16 - 22

December 23 - 29

ARIES – Mar 21/Apr 20

Aries, you will have to work hard at presenting a different image if you want to win over a few more fans. It might take a little time, but it is definitely within the realm of possibility. TAURUS – April 21/May 21 Taurus, take a break no matter how busy you are this week. It is for your own good to recharge with some R&R and then get back on track at work. GEMINI – May 22/Jun 21 Unexpected things can happen when you explore new possibilities, Gemini. Get out there and immerse yourself in other social circles so that you can take advantage of opportunities. CANCER – June 22/July 22 Cancer, run your ideas by a few people this week before you make a big presentation. This will help you to revise and tweak anything that needs a little work. LEO – July 23/August 23 Leo, you will be full of energy this week and that energy helps you handle whatever is put on your plate. Take advantage of your productivity with a few days off next week. VIRGO – Aug 24/Sept 22 Virgo, jump on an opportunity to take a vacation. There won't be many other opportunities this year to enjoy a vacation. So go along even if it's related to work. LIBRA – Sept 23/Oct 23 There are too many happy things going on in your life to let any of the negative things bring you down, Libra. Face challenges with a smile, and you'll sail through. SCORPIO – Oct 24/Nov 22 Scorpio, despite firm convictions you cannot change others' viewpoints all of the time. Don't be hard on yourself if other people do not see things the same way as you do. SAGITTARIUS – Nov 23/Dec 21 Sagittarius, sometimes you may believe there isn't room for anyone else in the spotlight but you. Don't let your ego get in the way of friendships. Share the glory. CAPRICORN – Dec 22/Jan 20 Capricorn, give an idea that would require some significant changes its due consideration. This can impact both your career and personal life in a positive way. AQUARIUS – Jan 21/Feb 18 It may seem like too much money is going out of your pocket and not enough coming in, Aquarius. But the budget will balance out this month. Rest easy when making purchases. PISCES – Feb 19/Mar20 Start a creative project that can be turned into something you keep for yourself, Pisces. It's nice to enjoy the fruits of your creative labors.

Aries, you may need to take a leap of faith when someone close to you asks for your assistance. Act first and ask questions later. It will be worth it. TAURUS – April 21/May 21 Taurus, there is bound to be a learning curve when you begin a new job or a new task. Do not be hard on yourself if it takes you a little longer.

Both social and business communication require some tact this week, Aries. You can handle it, and you should be prepared to meet some interesting people. TAURUS – April 21/May 21 Taurus, your confidence and energy are strong, but you seem to be having difficulty sitting still for enough time to get a handle on other people's opinions and viewpoints. GEMINI – May 22/Jun 21 New options present themselves that are excellent for educational pursuits, Gemini. Friends will be supportive of any ideas that you devise, even if they seem a little off-center. CANCER – June 22/July Cancer, this week you could gain the attention of people in high positions. Use the opportunity to get your best points heard if you have the chance. LEO – July 23/August 23 Leo, this should be one of those glorious weeks when you have the feeling that everything is moving along smoothly and according to your master plan. VIRGO – Aug 24/Sept 22 Virgo, your confidence is high and there is just about nothing that you fear or think you cannot handle this week. Float along on these feelings of euphoria for a while. LIBRA – Sept 23/Oct 23 Libra, you will show leadership in your profession over the next several days. This also will extend into your personal life, where you may have more energy in home affairs. SCORPIO – Oct 24/Nov 22 Scorpio, indulge your curiosities, as your imagination and creativity are very high. Projects that require artistic work or writing should be the top priority on your list. SAGITTARIUS – Nov 23/Dec 21 Sagittarius, this is a good week to explore new business opportunities. Apply your efforts to solving some complex problems that others have shied away from. CAPRICORN – Dec 22/Jan 20 Capricorn, your feelings of restlessness might be because you're not accustomed to sitting still for too long. You will think of ways to fill the time. AQUARIUS – Jan 21/Feb 18 Broaden your social contacts, Aquarius, and this way you will extend your professional reach as well. There always are opportunities for networking. PISCES – Feb 19/Mar20 You may find that needs at home quickly drain you of any energy, Pisces. Simplify your routine to find some relief.

GEMINI – May 22/Jun 21

Gemini, thoughtful reflection certainly may provide some of the answers you seek. But another way is to simply get out there and ask other people what they think.

CANCER – June 22/July

22Cancer, sad situations may come up, but you have a way of deflecting the situation and showcasing the bright side of things. You may find you are a person providing support this week.

LEO – July 23/August 23

Leo, many opportunities to entertain family and friends are on the horizon. Honor all of your commitments and enjoy all of the festivities.

VIRGO – Aug 24/Sept 22

Virgo, while you aspire to have many friends, you just may find that there are only a few special people who hold the strings to your heart. It is okay to keep them close.

LIBRA – Sept 23/Oct 23

Libra, sit down and enjoy some peace and quiet. You may enjoy the break from the frenetic pace you have been keeping the last few months.

SCORPIO – Oct 24/Nov 22

Ever an ideas person, Scorpio, now you have to put some follow-through into those plans. You can likely find a few friends to join you on your next adventure.

SAGITTARIUS – Nov 23/Dec 21

Sagittarius, things certainly go on when you're not around, but others may notice they just may not be as fun. You often lend joviality to anything you attend so spread your cheer.

CAPRICORN – Dec 22/Jan 20

Capricorn, bide your time and you just may end the year on a bang. Don't be afraid to add other things to your lastminute wish list because your goals just may be met.

AQUARIUS – Jan 21/Feb 18

Aquarius, you enjoy social situations but that doesn't mean you have to be the life of the party. Keep this in mind as you attend holiday gatherings.

PISCES – Feb 19/Mar20

Pisces, while others are thinking about what presents they want under the tree, you may be thinking of how to give back to others.

FUN BY THE NUMBERS Like puzzles? Then you’ll love sudoku. This mind-bending puzzle will have you hooked from the moment you square off, so sharpen your pencil and put your sudoku savvy to the test! HERE’S HOW IT WORKS: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle.
