Be Head Of The Class With These Money-Saving Tips (NAPSA)-School days can mean back-to-back expenses for many families. From purchasing school supplies and new shoes to backpacks and haircuts, parents can be pressed for money and time-but you don’t have to be among them. It can help to heed these ideas: Take It Online Check out the official websites and social media pages of the places you shop to get exclusive deals or learn about promotions. Many retailers offer e-mail and texting programs for their customers to receive coupons and announcements electronically. Another free option is to “Like” a retailer’s Facebook page to stay up to date on special offers. These are quick no-cost options for saving money. Plus, you can usually opt out at any time .Shop Sales Seasonal sales can be a great time to stock up on clothes and supplies throughout the year. You could even squeeze in some early holiday shopping. Stick To The List When it comes to school supplies, it’s better to waste not, want not. Teachers will typically issue an official list that covers all the necessary supplies needed for their classes. It’s often best to use this list instead of blindly buying what the kids want or think they need. Also, take a look around your home for basic supplies you may already have in stock such as paper, pencils and pens. Some larger big-box office supply chains offer “Fill A Bag” promotions, where shoppers can stock up and save as much as 20 percent. Many chains also offer “One Cent” campaigns on paper and pens or “Buy One, Get One” (BOGO) deals on more expensive notebooks. Remember that to take advantage of the best deals, retailers want shoppers to buy more, so consider shopping with a friend to share savings. Try calling the office supply store to find out when it

You can save time, money and trouble when it comes to school supply shopping-and enjoy a nice dinner out as well. will have a special sale. Most store managers know what is coming up at least a week in advance. Practice One-Stop Shopping Part of the stress of school shopping is the driving. Save time and (gas) money by limiting the number of stops. Most grocery stores carry basic school supplies, so you can combine your grocery and school supply shopping. Some big-box retailers offer groceries and retail in one shop; or you can target a shopping center or mall that has everything you need. That way, you can save all the back-and-forth driving for carpooling the kids to afterschool activities. Dine Out This may seem like a contradictory tip, but dining out at restaurants that offer meal specials helps save time and money. For example, Ryan’s(r), HomeTown(r) Buffet and Old Country Buffet(r) host Family Night every Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., where kids 11 and younger eat for just 99 cents. The restaurants offer a wide variety of home-style meals, so even the pickiest of eaters will likely find something to enjoy. Each Family Night also features family-friendly activities that let kids and parents have fun while enjoying a delicious meal. The whole family can have a night out that won’t break the bank. Plus, no one in the family has to cook or clean after the meal is done, which can mean more quality time together.

Tips To Control High Blood Pressure (NAPSA)-High blood pressure can greatly increase your risk for heart disease and stroke, but there’s good news if you are living with this condition. In addition to medication, there are proactive steps you can take to control your blood pressure and help improve your heart health. Certain populations, such as women and African-Americans, are at greater risk for high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, according to the American Heart Association. After the age of 65, a higher percentage of women have hypertension as compared to men. Additionally, approximately 40 percent of African-American women have high blood pressure. Higher rates of obesity and diabetes, compared to other groups, also put African-Americans at greater risk for high blood pressure and heart disease. Other risk factors, such as family history, advanced age, lack of physical activity and poor dietespecially one that includes too much salt-can also contribute to high blood pressure. Tips For Taking Control Take control of your blood pressure with these six tips from the American Heart Association that are good for your heart and brain: 1. De-stress. Take a break from work and listen to relaxing music or meditate. 2. Fit in physical activity. Regular, moderate-to-vigorous physical activity can help keep your blood pressure and cholesterol at heart-healthy levels and help you maintain a healthy weight. Walking is a great way to get started, but also consider jogging, yoga or a cardio class. 3. Eat heart-healthy foods. Healthy foods give you more energy, keep your brain fed and help prevent other health problems. If you’ve got to “eat on the run,” choose nutritious snacks. 4. Reduce your sodium intake. Eating too many salty foods can lead to high blood pressure. The average American consumes more than twice the 1,500 milligrams recommended by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. More than 75 percent of the sodium consumed in the U.S. comes from processed and restaurant foods.

Dr. Jennifer Mieres says it’s important to be aware of risk factors that can contribute to high blood pressure. 5. Limit caffeine. Water is usually the best choice. 6. Don’t smoke. Smoking is the No. 1 preventable cause of death. These factors hit home for Tisha Dixon-Williams. At 31, she thought she was pretty healthy, despite a junk-food diet. Then one day she felt dizzy and couldn’t maintain her balance. “I didn’t want to accept that something could be wrong,” she said. “I finally went to the doctor, and when I walked in my blood pressure was 190 over 120. I was a walking stroke.” The Brooklyn resident also found out that high blood pressure ran in her family. She now controls her risk by doing something she loves: dancing. Other positive lifestyle changes, such as eating more nutritious foods as well as taking blood pressure medication, have helped her gain control both on and off the dance floor. Taking small steps toward eating healthier and getting more physical activity is a commitment that more people need to adopt, said Jennifer Mieres, M.D., American Heart Association spokesperson and Medical Director, Center for Learning and Innovation, North Shore-LIJ Health System in New York. “We need to remember that 80 percent of heart disease is preventable, so simple changes can help,” she said. ARIES – Mar 21/Apr 20

A blue mood is nothing to worry about, Aries. It is just your body telling you that you may need to slow down a bit. Take heed and you'll recharge in no time.

Aries, patience is a virtue you possess, and you must make the most of your patient nature this week. Keep this in mind when dealing with family and coworkers.

Aries, avoid making promises unless you intend to keep them. If you cannot commit your time or effort, then explain the situation rather than backing out later.

Aries, it's important to know that someone close to you supports you no matter what. Don't let self-doubt overwhelm you. Others support you for a reason.

TAURUS – April 21/May 21 Taurus, you are beginning a contemplative phase of life right now, but you won't have to sacrifice your social life to do so. Take a few days off from socializing and then return.

GEMINI – May 22/Jun 21

TAURUS – April 21/May 21 Taurus, keep things in perspective and you will have your cake and eat it, too. You can coolly handle tough situations, and that ability serves you well this week.

GEMINI – May 22/Jun 21

Try to avoid any deep conversations or controversial topics this week, Gemini. Right now it's best if you focus on more trivial matters and enjoy yourself.

Your imagination is working overtime this week, Gemini. Channel that creative energy and get started on a project you have long been considering.

CANCER – June 22/Jul 22

Cancer, give yourself more time to figure everything out if you are feeling indecisive about someone. Don't forge ahead without feeling entirely comfortable with the person.

Cancer, you will be very content for the next few weeks. Enjoy these good times and invite those closest to you to enjoy them as well.

LEO – July 23/August 23 Leo, don't drop everything you're working on to address a developing issue at home. Others can handle the situation just as well as you, so keep your focus on preexisting tasks at hand.

VIRGO – Aug 24/Sept 22 Virgo, listen to friends and family members when they encourage you to try something new this week. Trust your instincts, as they seldom turn you in the wrong direction.

LIBRA – Sept 23/Oct 23 You have no time for gossip this week, Libra. Your plate is already full at work and at home, so avoid getting caught up in anything that compromises your focus.

SCORPIO – Oct 24/Nov 22 Scorpio, though it may feel like others are flying past you while you're slowly plodding along, eventually things will even out and you'll end up where you need to be.

SAGITTARIUS – Nov 23/Dec 21

LEO – July 23/August 23 Leo, your heightened sense of focus on a particular task has left you wondering how to proceed in another area of life. You may want to seek the advice of others.

VIRGO – Aug 24/Sept 22 Virgo, you may be tempted to throw caution to the wind. While that may make for a memorable experience, it may not prove wise over the long haul.

LIBRA – Sept 23/Oct 23 You could get caught up in a social whirlwind this week, Libra. Keep your feet on the ground or you may be swept away in all of the energy.

SCORPIO – Oct 24/Nov 22 Staying connected to your feelings is empowering, Scorpio. Even if others don't feel exactly the same way that you do, they may go along with plans to make you happy.

SAGITTARIUS – Nov 23/Dec 21

Create some plausible plans for the future this week, Sagittarius. Keep a journal to help you keep track of your ideas and make sense of your plans.

Sagittarius, indulgent behavior won't pay off in the long run. Moderation works best, and you'll be glad you didn't overindulge after the fact.

CAPRICORN – Dec 22/Jan 20

Capricorn, your generosity finds you devoting much of your time tending to the needs of others this week. Enjoy your time helping others and don't be afraid to accept their gratitude.

Capricorn, work and family responsibilities have put you under a lot of pressure recently. You could be in need of a respite, even if that break is brief.

AQUARIUS – Jan 21/Feb 18 Don't get too hung up if your week is all work and little play. While your schedule might be hectic in the coming days, some relaxation time will arrive this weekend.

PISCES – Feb 19/Mar20 Pisces, make the most of new opportunities that present themselves this week. The effort you put in will pay off in due time.

TAURUS – April 21/May 21 Others view you in an entirely different light than you view yourself, Taurus. Consider their perspectives and keep an open mind. It might just help you grow as a person.

GEMINI – May 22/Jun 21 Many ideas are running through your head, Gemini. But you have to stick with one idea and go with it. Though this may seem like trying to find a needle in a haystack, the focus will pay off.

CANCER – June 22/Jul 22 Someone puts all of their faith in you this week, Cancer. Don't be nervous about living up to their expectations. Just operate the way you always do and things will work out.

LEO – July 23/August 23 Leo, a number of things keep you occupied this week. The only difficulty will be narrowing down exactly what you want to do. Give this decision the attention it deserves.

VIRGO – Aug 24/Sept 22 Virgo, no matter how many times you voice your opinion, there seems to be one person who just doesn't seem to catch on to your line of thinking. Accept such differences of opinion.

LIBRA – Sept 23/Oct 23 Libra, sometimes you put blinders on to situations that make you uncomfortable. It is your way of coping. But this week you need to keep your eyes wide open.

SCORPIO – Oct 24/Nov 22 Scorpio, you do not have the patience for puzzles this week. Encourage coworkers and family members to be as concise as possible when declaring their intentions.

SAGITTARIUS – Nov 23/Dec 21 Sagittarius, this week you will have to do a number of things on your own. Make the most of this situation, as it might just prove to be a good test of character.

CAPRICORN – Dec 22/Jan 20

AQUARIUS – Jan 21/Feb 18

A change of scenery could provide the change in perspective you need right now, Capricorn. The trouble is finding the right time to get away. Plan a weekend trip if you can manage it.

Aquarius, it's quite possible you will not get much done this week, as you may be too busy encouraging others rather than focusing on your own needs.

Aquarius, even though you may not relish the role, you often have to be the voice of reason. Express yourself clearly but take others' ideas into consideration as well.

PISCES – Feb 19/Mar20 Compassion is your speciality, Pisces. Others appreciate your warm nature, so accept their gratitude and affection.

AQUARIUS – Jan 21/Feb 18

PISCES – Feb 19/Mar20 Channel all of your creative ideas into one big project, Pisces. Once you have taken that initiative, the project will take off.

FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY

TAURUS – April 21/May 21 Set your long-term goals and work hard to make them a reality, Taurus. Goals can help you stay on track and provide muchneeded motivation when you hit rough patches.

GEMINI – May 22/Jun 21 Gemini, even though you may not be getting all of the recognition you hoped at work, others are paying attention to your accomplishments. Just be a little patient.

CANCER – June 22/Jul 22 Romance could be heading in your direction, Cancer. If you are in a relationship, then that relationship might grow even stronger. Plan a romantic getaway soon.

LEO – July 23/August 23 Leo, you may want to keep some thoughts to yourself this week. Others may not be fond of you rocking the boat at this time, so let things settle down.

VIRGO – Aug 24/Sept 22 Surround yourself with people who can make you feel good and provide lots of support, Virgo. This week you may need all of the encouragement you can get.

LIBRA – Sept 23/Oct 23 Expect a self-esteem boost when you begin to feel better about all of your options, Libra. Although you may not be in love with all of the possibilities, many are very appealing.

SCORPIO – Oct 24/Nov 22 Scorpio, you have an uncanny sense of imagination and your creativity will be running strong this week. Share some of your ideas with a trusted friend or family member.

SAGITTARIUS – Nov 23/Dec 21 There are many cosmic energies working in your corner, Sagittarius. You just need to be in tune with the changes that are happening all around you.

CAPRICORN – Dec 22/Jan 20 Capricorn, anticipate some confusion regarding your social life this week. This can grow into a stressful situation if you let it. Instead, keep a level head and trust that things will work out.

AQUARIUS – Jan 21/Feb 18 Aquarius, career concerns dominate your thoughts these next few days, but you have other things on your mind as well. Devote ample time to all of your concerns.

PISCES – Feb 19/Mar20 Pisces, exotic thoughts creep into your head, but you have some mundane chores that need tending to as well.

BINGO BONANZA USA October 2013 Page 21

October 27 - November 2 ARIES – Mar 21/Apr 20 Aries, shake things up a bit to inpsire some muchneeded change. Be a tourist in your own city if you cannot afford a trip or immerse yourself in new cultures.

TAURUS – April 21/May 21 It is not a good week to begin new projects, Taurus. In fact, cosmic signs point to finishing up anything you have outstanding. Try to focus on financial matters as well.

GEMINI – May 22/Jun 21 Cooperate with others this week, Gemini. This works best when you embrace compromise. Listen to what others have to say and always keep an open mind.

CANCER – June 22/Jul 22 Cancer, a desire to get organized has been on your mind for quite some time. Now is the ideal time to do something about it. Start by clearing out clutter and go from there.

LEO – July 23/August 23 Enjoy a short vacation, Leo. It may be a jaunt to a weekend hideaway or something off the beaten path, but make the most of this well-deserved escape from the daily grind.

VIRGO – Aug 24/Sept 22 Virgo, you are feeling domestic this week, so enjoy puttering around the house these next several days. You can catch up on decorating or renovating the home.

LIBRA – Sept 23/Oct 23 Libra, you feel a strong need to communicate with others this week. Share some truths with your loved ones, but try not to come across as if you have an agenda.

With peppers, bigger might not be better, especially if you like them hot. Generally, the smaller the pepper, the hotter and none of the hottest peppers in the world are more than three inches long.

SCORPIO – Oct 24/Nov 22 Scorpio, you may have a desire to travel and seek adventure, but right now finances won't allow it. If you can keep expenses down, you may have the opportunity soon.

CAPRICORN – Dec 22/Jan 20 Keep your intentions hidden from others until you are ready for the big reveal, Capricorn. This will help make the surprise even more exciting for all those involved.

AQUARIUS – Jan 21/Feb 18 Aquarius, discussions reach a point where you want to make permanent changes to your plans. Mull things over before making any final decisions, but enjoy this exciting time.

PISCES – Feb 19/Mar20 Personal details about your private life may become public, Pisces. How this information is handled depends on your reaction.

FUN BY THE NUMBERS Like puzzles? Then you’ll love sudoku. This mind-bending puzzle will have you hooked from the moment you square off, so sharpen your pencil and put your sudoku savvy to the test! HERE’S HOW IT WORKS: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle.
