Who is Joseph Mifsud? Craig Munro News editor
T
he University of Stirling remains reluctant to answer pressing questions about its relationship to Professor Joseph Mifsud. On October 31, Mifsud was named as the academic who, according to a US Special Counsel indictment, introduced a member of then-presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign team to contacts related to the Russian government during the 2016 US Presidential Election. The indictment also states the professor was the figure who told the campaign aide about the existence of Russian “dirt” on Trump’s political opponent Hillary Clinton, in the form of thousands of hacked
emails. However, multiple important questions remain unanswered about Mifsud’s life and ties to a number of institutions, including the University of Stirling. In a one sentence press release sent to media organisations around the world on October 31, the university admitted Mifsud had been employed by them since May. A university spokesperson said: “Professor Joseph Mifsud has been a full-time Professorial Teaching Fellow in the University’s Politics department since May 2017.” Despite this role, neither Brig nor any other news organisation has found a single student on Stirling campus who can remember being taught continued on p.4

what has happened. “He was in a position of trust and responsibility and he has clearly gone beyond betraying that. “It begs the wider question of misogyny within university culture, really. “Duncan used to make some inappropriate jokes, but maybe we didn’t no-
tice the effects of that until it all came out - we’re used to it, and we shouldn’t be, but sadly that is the case. “This male-dominated mindset is ingrained in uni life and until we start changing that, nothing will change.” Union President Astrid Smallenbroek has also
stated: “The Students’ Union has a zero-tolerance approach to sexual assault and harassment on campus or within the wider community. “Since the incident occurred, the Students’ Union and the University of Stirling have worked continued on p.3
