AMY Smith has been elected with an overwhelming majority to serve as the next Students’ Union President. She won convincingly by 972 votes to 296. Speaking after her election, she said: “Thank you to everyone who voted and to my amazing campaign team. “Regardless of your identity, I will do my very best to represent you and I won’t let you down. “I’m excited to get stuck in and see what I can achieve. To have a proper chat about climate change and to do

something about it.” Her other priorities for her first 100 days as Union President include using the data she has collected from her travel consultations to progress conversation with First Bus and take the lead on Gender Recognition Act (GRA) form. Her opponent, suspended student Mo Wilson, managed to rack up nearly 300 votes, despite currently facing allegations of misogyny within the Stirling University branch of the Scottish Socialist Party. He failed to turn up to the results night and claimed at last week’s al-

ternative hustings that he was mainly running to draw attention to the protests. But he came under fire as he appeared to not be taking the campaign seriously, admitting that he did not think he was going to win. Joshua Muirhead was successful in his re-election campaign for Vice President Communities, beating Jess Reid by more than 200 votes. In an emotional victory speech, Josh praised his opponent on her campaign, saying: “You were fantastic. Thank you for reminding me of the reason that I ran for the role in the

first place. “I will continue to fight for students and take those hits, so we can all hit back. He voiced his surprise at the results, admitting that he “did not see that coming.” He added: “Jess pushed me to the point that we were constantly working; it was such a hard-going campaign. “My thing for this year is to keep on fighting, especially for our clubs and societies, which is a reason why so many people stay in university. “Come Monday, I will be contacting
