We’re proud to welcome hip hop dance theatre sensations ZooNation who make their debut in the Concert Hall with Into the Hoods: Remixed, a newly reworked version of their West End hit.

As well as some of the biggest names in music, our partnership with Making Tracks sees dazzlingly original artists from far-flung corners of the globe bring awe-inspiring music to Brighton.

There’s plenty on offer for all the family, including two Easter treats in the Corn Exchange, These Books are Made for Walking and Into the West.

For our audience members with additional needs, our assisted performances are listed on page 35 and our seasonal BSL-interpreted video is available on our website.

Into the Hoods: Remixed Directed by Kate Prince

The UK’s leading hip hop dance company ZooNation makes their much anticipated first visit to Brighton with Into the Hoods: Remixed - a revamped version of the award-winning urban hip-hop fairytale that stormed the West End in 2008.

Set on the Ruff Endz estate, classic fairytale characters are reimagined as two lost schoolchildren are tasked with finding an iPhone as white as milk, trainers as pure as gold, a hoodie as red as blood and some weave as yellow as corn.

On Men, Women and the Rest of Us explores the notion of a not-man, not-woman identity in a world that demands we be one or the other.

Moving freely between poetry and video, theory and comedy, this autobiographical performance is an affirmation of spirit for sex and gender outlaws everywhere.

As you sit in complete darkness wearing wireless headphones, an immersive world of sound, video and live performance places you at the centre of Banquo's rapidly unraveling existence, transporting you from bloody battlefield to spectral banquet.

Shakespeare’s text is interspersed with accounts from ex-servicemen to root this auditory adventure in the chilling realities of the camaraderie and after-effects of war.

One night when she's fast asleep, an enormous snowy white bear climbs into Tilly's bedroom. It has a big black tongue and a yawn as big as your head. But Tilly's not scared. The Bear is a heartwarming adaptation of Raymond Briggs’s magical picture book, full of dazzling puppetry, adventure and dreamy storytelling.

Perotá Chingó

A gang of serious virtuosos playing slightly unhinged songs about heroic sailors, goats and pancakes, Otava Yo bring the abandoned traditions of Russian folk singing and merrymaking into the 21st century. Expect the full-hearted passion and surreal joie de vivre of Slavic village life let loose on a Brighton stage.

Although it would be wise to also expect the unexpected from musicians who have thrilled and bamboozled audiences as far afield as Mexico and India.

Described by Rolling Stone as ‘spontaneous and magical’, this Argentine foursome spin music of raw beauty and magnetic simplicity out of the intertwining threads of two voices, guitar and minimal percussion. Having recently toured Latin America and Europe in a camper van, picking up influences as diverse as hip-hop and jazz along the way, Perotá Chingó sing gracefully meandering folk songs of freedom and nomadism, dappled with sunshine.

African Night Fever Saidi Kanda & Mvula-Mandondo Band Our latest celebration of the rhythms and flavours of Africa features a major figure in contemporary Tanzanian music, multi-instrumentalist and former WOMAD Percussionist of the Year Saidi Kanda. Open House Celebrating the XX factor Brighton Dome and Brighton Women’s Centre join forces to present its annual celebration of International Women’s Day. We’ll be filling every nook and cranny with a marketplace of ideas alongside a specially curated programme of performance, art and debate. Amongst the many stalls, join Miss Represented for drop-in workshops that explore identity through selfportrait and enamelling, or browse Women Worldwide’s handmade artisan gifts enabling women to live better lives.

Hair Peace The secret roots of human hair.

When Victoria competed in beauty pageants for a previous show a hairdresser advised she wear hair extensions. Freaked out by wearing a piece of somebody else’s body, she embarked on an extraordinary adventure to find whose hair this was.

The outcome is a true story about the search for three unrelated women from distant lands connected by DNA. There is a baddie, an unbelievably expensive wedding, a Celebrity Big Brother contestant, forensic crime scene investigations and hair, lots of hair.

Miss Represented: Retrospective Brighton Dome’s flagship outreach project goes from strength to strength. Miss Represented works with young women from across Brighton who have stories to tell and thoughts to share. Their most recent show Home:Life explored feelings around the notion of home, investigating the challenges of being young and in the care system, or young and homeless.

Following the success of the show, the girls will be taking a retrospective look back across all the Miss Represented performances and exhibitions, together with some new additions around Being Female in celebration of International Women’s Day.

Senior students of the Royal College of Music explore the remarkable expressiveness of the wind ensemble through an intriguingly contrasting range of works. This recital by the cream of the country’s young wind musicians journeys from the perfect poise of Mozart’s breezy Serenade and an arrangement of Beethoven’s beloved Pathétique to Janácek’s jaunty evocation of youth and an early work by Richard Strauss.

Quite simply one of the finest chamber ensembles on the classical music scene, the Elias Quartet is a firm favourite at Brighton Dome. The programme for its second concert here this season follows the genesis of the string quartet from an early piece

by Haydn, credited with inventing the format, to the full-blown Romanticism of Mendelssohn and the 20th-century dynamism of Britten.

A programme of rich textures and vivid atmosphere opens with two short works that revel in irresistible melody: Berlioz’s lilting orchestration of Weber’s Invitation to the Dance and Mascagni’s swooning, intense Intermezzo. Chopin’s elegant concerto is a scintillating showcase for a great pianist like Melvyn Tan, while the sultry glamour of Scheherazade rounds off the afternoon in exotic style.

Howard Shelley has long been acknowledged as one of the greatest of all British pianists, and is now also acclaimed as a conductor. The stately grace of Brahms gives way to Shostakovich in uncharacteristically playful mood, and the programme culminates in grand style with Mendelssohn’s Third Symphony, conceived in the ruined Chapel of Holyrood, Edinburgh – a suitably gothic beginning for this masterpiece of wind-swept Romanticism.

The Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra begins 2016 with three composers who developed new and distinctive soundworlds for their eras. Weber was the great pioneer of high Romanticism in music, and his music for Oberon, full of colour and incident, is the culmination of his genius. A sense of ethereal calm pervades Prokofiev’s dreamy First Violin Concerto, while Brahms’s Third Symphony is a work of yearning lyricism and passion.

The Royal Pavilion Estate and the First World War From 1914 to 1919, the Royal Pavilion and Brighton Dome’s Concert Hall and Corn Exchange were used as military hospitals, first for soldiers from Indian regiments, then by British limbless men who were taught skills to help them get post-war work.
