Lead glass, or crystal glass, as it is more commonly known, has been in use for centuries for making various decorative and household items. From wine glasses to vases, bowls to trophies, it has been imbibed into our regular lives through various objects. Contrary to popular belief, crystal glass does not have a crystalline structure, but is actually made from lead oxide, Silica, potash, soda and other additives. Uses of crystal glass: The earliest documented use of crystal dates back to as far as 1400 BC. Over the centuries, it has been modified to suit the needs of people. Previously, it was most commonly used for making glasses and decanters to store wine. However, soon enough, it was found that the high lead content in the glass, gave rise to diseases amongst people. Which is why, today, this glass has a much less lead content to minimize the risk of diseases.
