Welcome to Tutortoo If your school is looking to provide additional tuition, workshops for pupils, seminars for teachers, after-school care or holiday clubs, we can help.

Our goal at Tutortoo is to help every child excel through education. By providing tuition, workshops and out of hours activities for teachers and pupils, we aim to help open up opportunities in life some children may otherwise be denied.

Our team of experienced tutors are all qualified in their specialisms. When you work with us, you can be sure all our Tutortoo staff have completed a rigorous interview process before going into schools, including an up-to-date enhanced DBS certificate, a recommendation from at least two appropriate referees, a photo ID check and evidence to work in the UK.

Tuition for pupils

For pupils from lower income families who are falling behind, we offer individual and group tuition either at home or at school.

For pupils who cannot get into school because of physical or mental health issues, we offer one-to-one home tuition.

Tuition Unfortunately, despite everyone’s best efforts, there will always be students who are falling behind. Tutortoo works with schools nationwide to provide intensive tuition support to pupils identified as requiring intervention. We offer one-to-one tuition at home or at school, as well as small group tuition in the school environment.

By helping plug the gaps in a student’s knowledge and understanding, our tuition service enables pupils to reach their potential and schools to achieve their targets.

Bridging the attainment gap with additional pupil support:

Students from lower income families who are falling behind and need support to meet their predicted grades.

Students who cannot get into school due to mental or physical health issues and need support keeping pace with the curriculum to achieve their academic potential.

Our team of experienced tutors are all qualified in their subject specialisms and tutoring packages are personalised to provide a bespoke solution to each school. We work with schools on a sessional basis, meaning you pay only for the tuition your pupils need, when it’s needed.

Flexible and supportive tuition solutions:

For all ages and all levels.

30, 45 or 60 minutes long.

One-to-one or in small groups of up to five students.

At school, at a student’s home or other appropriate setting.

Qualified, fully vetted tutors.

On a short or long-term basis, to suit the school.

Once a week or more, as required.

Tutortoo can also provide sessional teaching assistant support for students we are tutoring in your school.

Research1 suggests optimum impact is achieved with short, regular tutoring sessions of about 30 minutes, three to five times a week over a set time period.

Evidence2 also advises tuition should be additional to, and explicitly linked with, normal teaching.

Tuition that really works

At Tutortoo we use tuition strategies which have a demonstrable impact on progress.

Our tuition services help schools evidence that the solutions in which they are investing are making a significant impact on closing the attainment gap between children from different socio-economic backgrounds.

Tuition which gets results:

Work is set and full feedback is provided on a week by week basis.

After every tutoring session, progress is logged and a session report is made

available to the school via a shared database system.

Progress against agreed objectives is reviewed regularly.

Progress meetings are booked with the school throughout the term of the

tutoring agreement and adjustments are made as required.

Parents are involved in the process wherever possible and specific feedback is

provided at parents’ evenings.

School activity workshops for primary pupils

With inspiring content ready to go, Tutortoo can take the pressure off schools and teachers during national events such as Children’s Art Week or National Science Week.

Our two-hour activity workshops offer schools additional resource and bring topics to life for pupils.

During Children’s Art Week, our workshops might look at peg dolls, for example.

Whilst making something like a peg doll, children can learn how they were introduced during the Victorian era and why they were even more prevalent during

World War 2, when the production of toys

was low and people had no spare money to

spend on toys.

During National Science week, our workshops could teach children how to make working torches, exploring how electricity works and telling the story of the discovery of electricity. Or perhaps show children how to make a kaleidoscope, through which process they can learn about reflection using mirrors and small objects and find out what happens when you rotate them.

Growth mindset seminars for teachers According to research1, our mindset determines our behaviour, performance and capacity to achieve to the best of our ability.

It has been suggested that pupils with a growth mindset, whereby they believe their ability can change and grow, will outperform students with a fixed mindset who believe their ability is set in stone.

Our half-day growth mindset seminars are for teachers who want to instil a growth mindset in the classroom: • The science behind young brains.

• How the brains of young people can change and grow in a way that increases motivation to learn, develops positive beliefs and increases confidence in their ability to achieve.

• Why it can be impossible to predict what pupils with a growth mindset could be capable of achieving in the future.

Revision workshops for secondary school pupils Pupils struggle to revise for exams often because of a lack of skill, rather than a lack of will.

Our full or half-day revision workshops are aimed at secondary school students, from year nine to year thirteen.

• Breaking revision down into a realistic structure of things to do each week.

• Skills for optimising revision sessions.

• How to revise in the best way for each individual student.

• How to minimise exam stress.

• Tips to maintain wellbeing under pressure.

Revision seminars for secondary school teachers Students are frequently told by teachers, tutors and their parents to revise, but sometimes they simply don’t know how to revise effectively.

Our half-day revision seminar is aimed at secondary school and sixth form teachers who want to raise overall attainment levels by embedding revision skills in their individual subject schemes of work.

Giving teachers a toolkit of methods: • The differences between teenage and adult brains.

• How the teenage brain retains and recalls knowledge and information.

• Teaching techniques to improve recall and retention.

After-school & holiday clubs Out of hours care is something more and more primary schools are outsourcing.

Tutortoo provides high quality on-site after-school and holiday clubs, tailored to the requirements of each school. By working directly with parents, we provide a stress-free solution for schools, with clubs which are fully staffed and managed by the experienced Tutortoo team.

After-school clubs

Tutortoo daily after-school clubs extend the school day, providing content which both educates and entertains children whilst their parents are at work. Tutortoo after-school clubs are for children aged 5-12 years and last between one and two hours to suit each school.

Engaging clubs centred around three elements:

Get crafting We bring to life traditional craft activities which parents and grandparents would have done as children, such as making peg dolls, French knitting or creating pom-pom animals. Each activity has a different level of complexity and so can be tailored to a variety of age groups. Through each activity, pupils learn about the history and cultural heritage behind the crafts and some, hopefully, are inspired to start a new hobby.

Get acting A variety of physical theatre styles are introduced to children as they are encouraged to improvise, project their voices and work on the best ways to portray different characters.

Games and activities are used to stretch imaginations, inspire creativity, increase confidence and promote teamwork, all whilst having lots of fun.

Clubs that expand young minds

Get engineering Children use their imaginations and problem-solving skills to discover the best structure for a marble run, whether a bridge made from pasta or paper is the strongest and how a paper aeroplane can be adapted to fly in the furthest straightest line possible.

Using everyday objects to build and have fun, we talk to pupils about the maths and science behind their creations and encourage our little engineers of the future.

Holiday clubs To keep little minds busy during the school holidays, Tutortoo provides holiday clubs which are both fun and educational. Our half-day, full-day or week-long holiday clubs are for children aged 5 to 12 years of age, who will enjoy a wide variety of activities, including crafts, drama, junk-box modelling, and construction, plus a range of physical activities to keep everyone energised throughout the day.
