Welcome - to the 18th edition of the Working Stiff’s Bull Sale. And, if you’re joining us sale day - welcome to Bridgeway! We are so grateful to the Smart family for hosting us near Moosomin over the last decade and honored to be your host this year, and for many years to come. When we joined D Bar’s event in 2011, we could not have predicted the incredible partnership that would form with Derek, and we’re thrilled to include Calvin & Jamie on the team in 2023.
Hopefully, you’ll receive this book well in advance of March 25th. When you do, please consider this your invitation to tour our entire program. For now, you’ll find us (& the herd) four miles East of Kelso, SK. Our Sale facility, and our (near) future home is located a few miles away. The bulls will settle in at that site a few days ahead of the Sale, and we’ll start settling there, too, later this spring. Directions can be found in the catalogue. Our offering this year includes Red Angus, Simmental, and Percentage bulls. The first group in the catalogue are the ‘Secretariat’ progeny. These brand new genetics are exceeding our expectations. The Simmental division includes progeny of our proven Hot Iron sire, as well as a few souvenirs that came in dam with the purchase of bred females. The bulls are all managed the same and we’d be happy to answer any of your questions about their development.
Raising cattle and growing crops is certainly a 365 day/year endeavor, and it wouldn’t be possible without our team. Tag & Brittany Clemence (and their expanding family) have been helping us for nearly three years. Tag is a skilled mechanic and exceptionally patient in the corrals. Karl & I would both prefer to sort cattle with Tag rather than each other...! Denver Bolton joined us about a year ago. She’s become part of the family, tackling everything from halterbreaking show calves to designing new marketing material. If our new sale site seems even remotely ready on March 25th, I’ll guarrantee Tag & Denver have poured a ton of time and energy into making that possible!

Well to say things have changed a bit at Smart Farms Angus would be an understatement. First of all would be a name change, Joelle and I created Smartdale Stock Farms, a name in honor of our fathers who have raised and taught us much of what we know today. With that we purchased the top 60 purebreds from the operation, the result of the last 14 years of breeding and selecting, and man are we excited about the herd. The dams we selected were the top females in the field of foot and udder structure and fleshing ability while maintaining the fertility and performance that we know our customers need to move their business forward in these uncertain times. I feel these 16 bulls that we have on offer this year are a glimpse of what these females have to offer. You will see sons of new and old genetics, sons of the original Scotch Cap and New Frontier, Titanium, Huntley, Captain America, Thunderstruck and Boyscout.
The other half of Smartdale is our meat business that has been expanded to include multiple species and is now selling through RCM Outdoors, the store with all things BBQ and smoker, in Yorkton, SK. This is possible with the fact that we have since moved to Ebenezer, SK, just north of Yorkton, going on two years now. We had the opportunity to rent land up here and have now bought a farm with all the pasture needed for the herd right around our house. It is our little slice of paradise!
If that isn’t enough change, on October 26th we welcomed our daughter Scottie Dayla Smart to the Smartdale team and look forward to her help on the farm. With that being said we welcome and encourage any visitors who wish to come and see the operation. Evaluate the bulls, tour the herd, or just come for a coffee and we can solve the worlds problems!!!

The remaining two bulls are out of outstanding females we were fortunate to add to the herd in 2017. All bull calves on offer are bred by walking bulls who have proven themselves by consistently producing functional calves that grow efficiently. We strongly believe these bulls carry the traits that are necessary to a strong, consistant, functioning herd.

5K is our biggest framed bull out of the six in the sale. He’s long bodied with lots of hair and is sure to add lot’s of frame to his progeny.
Terms Of Sale: Are cash or cheque at par, payable sale day unless previous arrangements have been made. U.S. Funds will be accepted at the current rate of exchange. No release will be given until satisfactory settlement has been made. We reserve the right to withhold animals from shipment for whom payments have not been received prior to departure times.
Semen Interest: Consignors reserve the right to retain 1/3 semen interest in every bull sold.
Announcements: All announcements made sale day shall take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Actual weights and scrotal measurements will be available sale day.
Accidents/Liabilities: All persons who attend the Sale do so at their own risk and the Owners and Sale Staff assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for property loss or for any accidents that may occur.
Fertility: All bulls will have had a complete physical and fertility exam by an accredited vet.
Bull Warranty: All cattle are sound and right and sell as outlined by the “Responsible Breeders” policy. Any problems or concerns need to be sent in within 6 months to us for consideration. No bull will be refunded for more than actual purchase price and no animal subject to mistreatment or injury will be refunded. In the event of any unlikely dispute, the regular terms and conditions, standard with the Canadian Angus Association shall apply.
Delivery: Consignors will be happy in delivering or assisting in the delivery of your bull. Should you not be prepared to take your bull home on sale day or immediately following, the bulls can be left in the care of the consignors for no charge until May 1st.
Sight Unseen Purchases: If you have interest in bidding but are unavailable to attend the sale, please feel free to contact the Consignors or Sales Staff to discuss the offering with you. All of our sales staff will be available sale day for bidding over the phone. We strongly advise insuring your new purchase if returning to our farm prior to delivery.
