Welcome!
Thank you to all of our past and future customers for taking the time to look through this catalogue. We know there are many catalogues in the mail these days and we sure do appreciate you taking the time to view ours. We have a strong selection of Red Angus bulls this year as well as, I’d say, one of our best set of Simmental bulls we have raised to date. We walked two mature Simmental bulls that we are very excited about, both homo polled and blaze faced. Both are extremely well footed and have been around long enough to have daughters that we have seen produce extremely nice udders and doing a good job with babies of their own now. We took two Perks Hot Iron 410E sons and one daughter on the show road this fall and they made a lot of friends in the stall, pens and show ring. We acquired the mature black blaze bull to service the purebreds as well as a group of commercial cows. There are two half blood sons in the sale that have tons of style and power and that signature ‘chrome’. Their quality was too good to not be in the bull pen. On the Red Angus side, we have sold sons out of these herd bulls before and they are working well for our past customers. We have seen a lot of proven quality from our Red Border Guard 4E sons, with several beautifully developed daughters here with calves on the ground now. Moderate females with good feet and tremendously thick with picture perfect udders. Extremely functional cattle these daughters are proving to be. The power and growth that these bulls have is something to see. They come out small and then just explode! And they don’t stop. The set of Red Wilbar Rumbler 814C sons that start off this book is a small group but a proven one. He made a great impact on our program. We used Rumbler on heifers until his final year when he injured himself, hence the smaller offering of bulls catalogued. There may only be three sons in the sale but the quality is still there. Again, we have many females retained from this bull and the udder quality is just second to none. Square bodied hairy progeny that you see in the calves in the catalogue. The last chance to get one of his sons is this year. Red Bridgeway Moonshine 7G is a son we retained as we lost his sire to an injury and he was just too good a bull to not produce at least another year of those genetics. A tremendous amount of power and consistency on birth weight makes it easy to select the animals this bull paired with. We sold him to another purebred breeder where he did very well this past spring. His mother had 14 calves on this farm and never missed a year. That fertility and consistency has passed on to her progeny. These Moonshine bulls are breeding fools. 7G’s sire bred 90% of his group every year in the first cycle and his son proved the same performance the year he was here as a yearling. There are two Red Bridgeway Heat 59C sons in the catalogue and there will be a lot more to follow next year. He is a bull that bred heifers for a customer and we jumped at the opportunity to buy him back when our customer retained too many daughters to continue his use, and with the timing of Rumbler’s injury. These bulls are beautiful heifer bulls. We are excited to have more calves to offer out of this bull next year. The Blair’s Doc bull; again, only two sons, he went down on us almost immediately after arrival which was very unfortunate but it gave us the opportunity to purchase Secretariat last spring, an addition we are very excited about! The very dry and challenging year we all experienced really allowed these animals and our program of easy fleshing and growth cattle to shine. The bulls still look great and their dams did a great job on these calves. They were still on pasture with their moms until there was snow on the ground. These bulls are on the same ration and hand fed twice daily program we’ve done for several years. It has proven to make for a great transition from our home to yours so why change something that isn’t broken. It also makes the bulls (arguably) annoyingly quiet and easy to handle which we also feel is very important. The bulls will head to Smart Farms a few days ahead of sale day to be conveniently viewed prior to sale time. With covid restrictions lifting, we are planning for a ‘full steam ahead’ sale day. Bigger the crowd the better, we are very excited to see people! It’s been a long couple years now. Pictures and videos were captured by Golden Thread and will available to view on DVAuction. Our live video sale will be broadcast by DVAuction, so tune in if you can’t join us. You are welcome to view our bulls anytime four miles East of Kelso, SK and our phones are always on if you’d like more info. Thank you again for your interest and your valued time. We can’t wait to see everyone on sale day.. after all, it’s the people that make this industry great!

16J made a lot of friends on the road this fall. He has it all! Calving ease with out giving up performance. Great feet, tons of hair, lots of style and backed with genetics that have proven to work at our farm for several years now. We would like to have the option to show this bull again this fall. After the breeding season we would like to come take a look at him and make arrangements to get him back out there for everyone to see. This bull has breeder bull quality! Excited to see what he will do.

This was a very happy mistake; so much so that we bred her the same way again. 90J is thick, long, blaze faced, perfect feet on him. We don’t market a lot of half bloods, so they have to be damn good to make the cut and this bull is the top end of that group.

This bull has a skiff of white on him and (although younger) was just too good to not keep in the pen. This bull has a tremendous growth curve. He’s going to be a big boy when he’s mature.

This flashy bull is the youngest in the pen. Sure catches your eye in the pen, and then you notice the quality is there, too.

Welcome to the 17th Annual Working Stiffs Bull Sale. We here at Smart Farms Angus are excited about our offering this year! We picked 16 of the top bulls in the bull pen and 4 of our top end heifers to sell this year. The cattle had a tougher than normal summer with the lack of grass but we are pleased with how the genetics continued to perform and pack the pounds on. We continue to breed with some of the newest genetics as well as the old tried and true to bring some outcross pedigrees to our customers. The herd sires that walk the pastures at Smart Farms excel in functionality, foot and udder structure; as well as efficiently putting pounds onto there calf crop in a phenotypically pleasing package!! As always we feel this is a 365 day a year business and so we always have yearlings and 2 yr olds for that last minute emergency or if you find out you need another bull in the summer. We would like to thank you for your support and confidence in our program. Please stop by or call anytime to see the animals or just talk cattle!

Titanium was the second bull in the ring at McCumber’s 2017 sale. We were fortunate to acquire this guy with our friend Tom Neustadter. The daughters out of this guy are second to none and the sons continue to impress us. The fleshing ability and soundness of Titanium’s offspring will impress even the most critical of cattlemen.

We have had Huntley calves over the last 4 years and they are the most docile animals I have ever worked with. Anyone following our program have seen the consistency and potential of these genetics. We have many daughters in production and there udders are flawless and the sons are masculine and stamped with that herd bull look. His numbers speak for themselves.
