Join us for an afternoon full of fun and games. Play for a chance to win prizes or rock out to the music provided by a DJ. Climb onto the inflatable mountain climber or pet as many animals as you can at the new petting zoo. Special guest apperances by The Rutgers Scarlet Knight & Sparkee.

Kids and adults... march in our Costume Parade at 2:30pm.

Our Dancing with the JCC Stars, Season 2 was fabulous!

Thank you to our wonderful and talented dancers for their dedication to the JCC: Randy Berkow (Mirror Ball Trophy winner pictured), Stacey Glassman, Ken Kaus, Josh Leibner, Michael Melango, Lisa Nierenberg, Gary Shiman and Ellen Teller. We can’t thank you enough for the time commitment. Your performances were wonderful to watch and prove that taking on a new challenge can be great and fulfilling! We also want to thank you for the funds you personally raised for The JCC Scholarship Fund. It is clear by the multitude of ads and well wishes in our Journal that you are all beloved by so many people. The Dancing with the Stars event raised $66,000 for the Scholarship Fund…thank you to everyone who made that possible.

Discover CATCH:

ROOF!

The JCC is proud to announce its newest program called Discover CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health).

This program encourages children of all ages to eat healthier, and also to live healthier lifestyles. It is easier to teach good, healthy habits at an early age rather than change bad ones later in life. By teaching children to eat healthy and exercise at a young age, the expectation is that this knowledge will be part of one’s life and carry on into adulthood.

This new program is not limited to just an early childhood setting. Discover CATCH employs a holistic approach to child health. It involves the JCC’s Early Childhood Center, J-Crew After School Program, Camp Ruach, Health & Fitness and Jewish Life departments, and engages teachers, children and families to work together to build healthy habits.

Discover CATCH will reinforce education with a series of parent tip sheets to bring the learning home from school, as well as to help families think more carefully about food choices and nutrition. Through Discover CATCH, we hope to help put the community’s youngest members on a lifelong path of health and caring for their bodies. Some of our staff members have already received extensive training and we will be training additional JCC staff members in the Discover CATCH program. We look forward to launching the program with the children in 2014.

“Jews and Christians Read Scripture” Thursday, January 30 7:00 PM at the JCC

Anti-Semitism in the 21st Century: An Ongoing Threat Thursday, February 27 7:00 pm at the JCC

Dr. Robert Harris, associate professor of Bible at The Jewish Theological Seminary, will presenting “Jews and Christians Read Scripture,” He will be examining the commonalities as well as the differences between Jews and Christians in medieval biblical study; the relationships and mutual influences that rabbis and churchmen had on one another (particularly in northern France) and, in particular, the polemics through which they typically interacted.

Guest speaker Ryan Murray, a teacher at Watchung Hills High School in Warren, will discuss, “AntiSemitism in the 21st Century: An Ongoing Threat. ” Many incidents of Anti-Semitism receive limited media attention, and yet it is only through recognition and education that the threat of antiSemitism can effectively be countered. Mr. Murray teaches a widely popular course titled “Holocaust & Genocide.”

March of the Living April, 23-May, 8 2014 JCC Maccabi Israel® is happy to announce its March of the Living program to Poland and Israel. The program is offered to teens entering eleventh or twelfth grade. It will focus specifically on community and leadership. The cost of the program is $5,190 including all travel (from NY), meals, sites and guides.

Teen Trip to Israel Summer 2014 Experience Israel with Friends from your community.
