Families will enjoy a delicious BBQ dinner outside, sing songs around the bonfire, roast marshmallows and play games. All funds collected will be put towards the Benjamin M. Butler Memorial Camp Scholarship Fund to help ensure all families have access to a meaningful and impactful camp experience.

About The Blaustein Early Childhood Center We offer half day, full day, and extended day care options for children six weeks through kindergarten. We are open year round from 7am-6pm with flexible schedule combinations to meet the needs of all families. Specials such as swim lessons, music, yoga, and art are all included in half day tuition. After school fee based enrichments include dance school, basketball, karate, swim, art, and tumbling.

We believe communication is a key element with our parents and families. We use an app called Tadpoles as a communication tool for teachers and parents. Each classroom is equipped with an ipad so that teachers can take photos and fill out daily updates for each child.

Family involvement is also one of the core values in our school. Parents are welcome in the classrooms to read a story, share an activity, or participate in their child’s daily routine. In addition to the classroom, we offer multiple family programs and activities in the evenings and weekends throughout the year.

Our Philosophy The mission of the ECC is to create a safe and loving environment that allows all students — whatever their perceived strengths and weaknesses, whatever their personal likes and dislikes — to explore the world around them, and to become the best versions of themselves.

As they work to navigate what it means to be a part of a classroom and a broader school community, we want them to try new things; to experiment; to succeed; and, even to fail (and learn how to pick themselves back up). We want them to learn to respect each other, to be empathetic and to value each other’s unique attributes and contributions.

Our thoughtfully prepared learning environments and teacher involvement reflect the children’s interests and promote the development of social, emotional, and physical skills. A love of learning flourishes in a welcoming and inviting setting that is safe, nurturing, and stimulating.

Our bright, modern facility is located within the JCC in a separate and secure Early Childhood Wing. We are licensed by the State of NJ and have a high staff-to-child ratio in each classroom. Our Curriculum We utilize Creative Curriculum to guide our explorations in the classroom. Using developmentally appropriate and research based curriculum is recommended by the NJ Department of Education and is aligned with the NJ Teaching and Learning Standards. Curriculum provides the framework around which teachers organize the learning environment, experiences, and interactions.

Creative Curriculum highlights the important balance between applying a general knowledge of child development with the particular knowledge a teacher gains by forming a relationship with each child and family. In addition, as a part of our commitment to quality childcare, we are enrolled in Grow NJ Kids. As a Grow NJ Kids participant, we receive resources to help our program continue to grow - including coaching, training, and professional development.

Our classrooms are rich with language and print, science and art, blocks, and dramatic play, among other areas. The environment, in addition to our amazing staff, promotes each child’s intellectual, social, physical and emotional growth. Our school celebrates all of the Jewish holidays and traditions throughout the year. In addition, we view the child’s world and our school through seven Jewish Lenses that speak to a way of seeing, thinking and acting; Journey, Divine Image, Covenant, Holiness, Awakening, Interpretation, and Repair of the World. These guides allow us to consider topics that can be adapted and are relevant for children of all ages in our ECC: reflection, belonging, dignity, potential, intentionality, amazement, gratitude, inquiry, dialogue, and responsibility.

JCC Bridgewater Tide Competitive Swim Team The JCC Bridgewater Tide is a year-round swim team that competes in state, regional and national USA Swimming meets. The Tide provides instruction and training for athletes ages 6-18. The Tide program focuses on all facets of the athlete’s development, from technique and conditioning to good sportsmanship, racing mentality and believing in continuous improvement. Swimmers are placed in practice groups based on ability, age, and commitment level. All swimmers are expected to compete in USA Swimming meets approximately 1 weekend a month.

The Spring Training program will focus heavily on stroke mechanics and refinement with individual analysis and attention. Build upon what you learned over the winter and fine-tune your strokes to stay in shape and get ready for summer swim competition.

Experience the excitement of racing in a relaxed and fun Summer Swim atmosphere with your Tide teammates.

In addition to practices, there will be meets two evenings a week from mid-June through the end of July, ending with championship meets at the end of July/beginning of August. We will have several fun social events for our swimmers and we will be using our OUTDOOR pool to host a few meets!

About Our Staff Our staff consists of highly trained, certified, experienced and professional lifeguards, American Red Cross Water Safety instructors, coaches and directors. Our staff takes pride in the programs, quality and cleanliness of our fantastic facility. No matter which program you or your child is involved in, you can be assured that you are receiving excellent and appropriate instruction and supervision. There is always at least one lifeguard on duty to ensure that you, your family and your guests are safe and that the pool area is clean and organized. Lifeguards can answer your general questions regarding policies and schedules.

About Our Pools Indoor Pool

The Indoor Pool is a 5 lane, 25 yard (75’) competitivestyle pool. This pool is open year round to all holding a JCC membership. The depth in the zero access area of the pool goes from zero to 4 feet, and the main part of the pool goes to 6 feet in depth. Our indoor pool is the only pool in the area running on a salt sanitization system. Feel the difference! Our indoor pool also uses UV technology to maintain the highest standards of water chemistry. The water temperature is maintained at a relaxing 84 degrees. Lessons are held in our indoor pool year round.

Bubble/Outdoor Pool Our bubble pool is a 5 lane, 33 yard competitive-style pool.

This pool is primarily utilized by our swim team, the JCC Bridgewater Tide, from mid-September to mid-May. The bubble structure is taken down for the summer for our Summer Swim Club. The pool features an intermediate pool which ranges from 1-3 feet, the main pool 3-6 feet with slide, and two kiddie pools that are one foot deep.

The pool is kept at 82 degrees year round. The bubble/ outdoor pool has a commercial salt sanitization system and also uses UV technology to keep the pool water as clean as possible.

Group Swim Lessons 6 Months - 5 Years

Parent and Child Aquatics (6 months - 21/2 years) Parents and children learn together to increase a child’s comfort level in the water and build a foundation of basic skills, such as arm and leg movements and breath control. The three levels are fun-filled and help introduce water safety concepts, encouraging a healthy recreational habit that your entire family can enjoy.

Preschool Aquatics (3 to 5 years) Throughout the four levels, preschool-age children are taught basic aquatic safety and swimming skills, all the while increasing their comfort level in and around the water. Skills are age-appropriate, helping children achieve success on a regular basis and enjoy social interactions with other children. As in all Swimming and Water Safety courses, your child will always know that it’s safety first.

Spring/Summer 2019 Training Lifeguard Training Full Course Blended Learning Course May 18-19, 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM June 17-19, 1:00 - 8:00 PM August 19-21, 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM Member Fee: $285 | Fee: $360 The purpose of this course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. Please note, this is a blended learning course. This course consists of classroom and online assignments. The JCC will provide you with a prepaid coupon code 3-5 days prior to the start of the course for you to register for the blended learning component through the American Red Cross. After successful completion of the course an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED will be issued. These certifications are valid for 2 years.

Pre-requisites for the course: • Must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course • Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.

• Tread water for 3 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.

• Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Starting in the water swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed. Surface dive, feet first or head first to a depth of 6-10 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water. Exit the water without using a ladder or stairs.

Lifeguard Training Renewal Blended Learning Course May 19, 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM June 20, 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM August 22, 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM Member Fee: $150 | Fee: $275 This course allows a lifeguard to review written and physical skills for Lifeguard Training and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer with an American Red Cross Instructor prior to taking the written and practical portions of the Lifeguard Training recertification test.

Prerequisites for review: Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for Lifeguards, and First Aid certifications. Successfully complete all the practical skills of lifeguard training test and score 80 percent better on all written sections. Must bring pocket mask and valid ARC Lifeguard certification cards to the challenge.

TEEN YOGA

The practice of poses and observance of breath as a means to health and peace of mind. Yoga also teaches teens techniques for coping with the unique issues they’re faced with everyday—insecurity about their changing bodies, the enormous pressure to fit in, stressful schedules, and uncertainty about their beliefs and their futures.

BOOTCAMPS

These programs are designed to build coordination, strength and endurance through a variety of exercises.

Usually in circuit style Tabata trainings, kids will do a variety of movements which increase heart rate, tone, shape and help sharpen their fast twitch fibers response time. Each Bootcamp is modified for the appropriate age.

POUND FOR TEENS

Pound is a combination of cardio and weight training exercises that includes some of the rhythmic techniques used in Pilates. Pound includes exercises that involve alternate squatting and standing to strengthen the inner and outer thighs, buttocks, core muscles, and back muscles. Colorful, light-weight (1/4-lb) drumsticks called Ripstix add an element of fun to Pound classes while they help exercisers count out the length of time they hold certain positions.

SPIN

Spin is indoor cycling where each bike has a weighted magnetic flywheel. Changing the gears, changes the resistance to simulate outdoor riding in a group fitness setting. Participants will focus on endurance, strength, speed intervals, high intensity power, and re-covery.

Special Needs Swimming Skills Ages: 3-15 years Monday - Thursday ¡ 4:00 - 8:00 PM

By Appointment for 6 Lessons Fee: $115 The JCC Bridgewater Special Needs Swimming Skills Program is for swimmers ages 3-15 with special needs looking to explore the joys of water and learn how to swim.

This program will also prepare swimmers to participate in our JCC Bridgewater Rising Tide Special Olympics Swim Team program if they choose to do so. All classes are taught by certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors who have certification and experience in adaptive aquatics.

This program is provided in partnership with Autism Speaks through their Swimming and Water Safety Grant.

Our program consists of (6) 30-minute private one-onone lessons. These lessons are taught on a one-on-one basis meeting for half an hour each week depending on the instructor and participant schedule. Weekly lessons will include instruction on how to float independently and with a device, how to control breathing, kicking, basic paddling, front crawl, back stroke, and jumping/diving into the pool.

Participants will also receive special attention and instruction that may help develop competency in the water as well as improve overall coordination, strength, endurance, range of movement, as well as social and attending behaviors. All students will receive individual skill cards to work on skills taught in the program outside of the class.

Please note enrollment in this program requires a doctor’s note stating that your child is able to participate in an aquatics class before entering the water. A JCC Special Needs Participant Care Form will also need to be submitted prior to the start of lessons.

Camp Chaverim, Special Needs Camp Camp Chaverim is designed for campers with Special Needs.

This program offers 1:1 staff support to shadow your camper and is tailored to their specific needs. Camp Chaverim is an individualized program and includes integration into peer groups when appropriate and modified schedules when necessary. We work with ESY schedules developing part and full time programs for your child.

An intake is required. From this intake, the camp and Special Services Director will work closely with you and your family to develop a personalized program to make the summer a successful experience for your child.

Milton Gottlieb: Reflections of a Liberator May 30 • 7:00 PM In 1944 Milton Gottlieb enlisted to go overseas to fight in the Battle of the Bulge. During the invasion, Milton acted as a medic first and then interpreter. His division liberated Slave Camp Gotha and Slave Camp Zwickau bearing witness to atrocities in sub-camps like Ohrdruf. The 89th and Milton continued to bear witness through Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, and Poland from January 1945 to August 1945. Milton says, “I am very proud of my country for its participation in World War II. The country was completely united in its efforts to win the War and assist the allied countries.” Milton will introduce his film, Reflections of a Liberator, and Q & A will follow the screening.
