Maker & Inventors Explore your imagination through hands on experiments, building computer controlled Robots and solving challenges that test your wisdom and aptitude. Kids will discover chemical reactions, build Mars Rover to explore the other planets surface, build rockets which could fly 50 ft above the ground and learn magic tricks.

Cooking Campers will learn to cook their own masterpieces which they will eat each day for lunch! Healthy cooking and foods will be emphasized. Camp consists of 2 hours cooking, ½ hour of yoga and ½ hour of eating.

Intro to Drone Flying Missions Campers will learn the basics of drone technology and safety before taking to the air.

Through the use of iPad flight simulators and clear instructions on basic flying maneuvers, young Drobots’ pilots will experience a program filled with excitement, games, challenges, and learning.

Ultimate Drone Challenge Designed for both novice and experienced drone enthusiasts. Filled with pure action as students enjoy Drone Obstacle Racing. Campers will progress through skill challenges and learn to perform exercises and maneuvers with the drone’s speed and agility. Campers will use iPads and remote controls to navigate the drone obstacle courses. Participants will also create the design and help build the obstacle course in preparation for the last day’s final activity and competition.

Academic Enrichment Campers will work independently and in groups on critical problem solving and writing exercises in a fun and exciting environment. Participants will be academically stimulated and enjoy the engaging structure to the program.

Bricks 4 Kidz Calling all future scientists, architects, engineers, artists, and video game creators!

Join us for a week of lego robotics camp at the JCC. Learn, build and play! Includes an hour of swimming.

CR-ART Studio Love creating masterpieces? Love to use different mediums in your work? Join our professional staff while they teach and guide you towards multiple masterpieces throughout the week. Utilize different mediums such as paint, clay, glass, and more! Includes an hour of swimming.

J-SPLASH Water Sports All water all the time! Summer is hot but this camp is cool! Enjoy a multitude of water instruction, sports and games such as racing strokes and techniques, water volleyball and basketball, as well as diving for fun! Join our professional swim coaches for a week of water fun!

On The Court Basketball This one-week program led by On the Court Basketball is designed to teach campers the fundamentals of basketball, improve your skills and gain a better understanding of the game.

First time or experienced players will have fun and improve their game. Includes an hour of swimming.

Making ‘Em Laugh Acting Campers will learn the art of comedy and clowning. In addition to a wide range of our zany drama activities, campers will learn and rehearse special clown activities that will be performed at their end of camp Big Show.

Children will also develop their acting and public speaking skills and confidence through acting training. Includes an hour of swimming.

Dear JCC Family, We are very excited to bring you an expanded and enhanced Fitness Facility at our JCC! Construction has been moving forward according to plan in our new Fitness Center as you can see by the photos!

Our new Fitness Center (off the corridor on the main level) will have increased square footage for our Selectorized and Free Weight Equipment. In addition, the Fitness Center will also feature a Welcome Desk and a Smoothie Bar (Yumm!) The new “pass through� in the Fitness Center will connect areas of Fitness and will offer our members use of mini lockers to store personal belongings. We are constructing a new Spin Studio in which Spin, Sprint and Virtual classes will accommodate 24 participants. The new expanded Group Fitness Studio (where the fitness center currently is) will include a stage, specialized lighting and capacity for even more Group X Warriors!

We will continue to keep you posted on our progress and look forward to the Grand Re-Opening of our Fitness Facility in late Spring!

PJ Library PJ Library is a Jewish Family Engagement program implemented on a local level throughout North America. PJ Library mails free, high-quality Jewish children’s literacy and music to families across the continent on a monthly basis.

PJ Library is a program of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, made possible through partnerships with philanthropists and local Jewish organizations. Today, families in hundreds of communities across the United States and Canada are able to explore the timeless core values of Judaism through books and music. Our community program is funded in part through the Jewish Federation of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties.

About The Blaustein Early Childhood Center We offer half day, full day, and extended day care options for children six weeks through kindergarten. We are open year round from 7am-6pm with flexible schedule combinations to meet the needs of all families. Specials such as swim lessons, music, yoga, and art are all included in half day tuition. After school fee based enrichments include dance school, basketball, karate, swim, art, and tumbling.

We believe communication is a key element with our parents and families. We use an app called Tadpoles as a communication tool for teachers and parents. Each classroom is equipped with an ipad so that teachers can take photos and fill out daily updates for each child.

Family involvement is also one of the core values in our school. Parents are welcome in the classrooms to read a story, share an activity, or participate in their child’s daily routine. In addition to the classroom, we offer multiple family programs and activities in the evenings and weekends throughout the year.

Our Philosophy The mission of the ECC is to create a safe and loving environment that allows all students — whatever their perceived strengths and weaknesses, whatever their personal likes and dislikes — to explore the world around them, and to become the best versions of themselves.

As they work to navigate what it means to be a part of a classroom and a broader school community, we want them to try new things; to experiment; to succeed; and, even to fail (and learn how to pick themselves back up). Our Curriculum We utilize Creative Curriculum to guide our explorations in the classroom. Using developmentally appropriate and research based curriculum is recommended by the NJ Department of Education and is aligned with the NJ Teaching and Learning Standards. Curriculum provides the framework around which teachers organize the learning environment, experiences, and interactions.

Creative Curriculum highlights the important balance between applying a general knowledge of child development with the particular knowledge a teacher gains by forming a relationship with each child and family. In addition, as a part of our commitment to quality childcare, we are enrolled in Grow NJ Kids. As a Grow NJ Kids participant, we receive resources to help our program continue to grow - including coaching, training, and professional development.

Our classrooms are rich with language and print, science and art, blocks, and dramatic play, among other areas. The environment, in addition to our amazing staff, promotes each child’s intellectual, social, physical and emotional growth. JCC Bridgewater Tide Competitive Swim Team The JCC Bridgewater Tide is a year-round swim team that competes in state, regional and national USA Swimming meets. The Tide provides instruction and training for athletes ages 6-18. The Tide program focuses on all facets of the athlete’s development, from technique and conditioning to good sportsmanship, racing mentality and believing in continuous improvement. Swimmers are placed in practice groups based on ability, age, and commitment level. All swimmers are expected to compete in USA Swimming meets approximately 1 weekend a month.

About Our Staff Our staff consists of highly trained, certified, experienced and professional lifeguards, American Red Cross Water Safety instructors, coaches and directors. Our staff takes pride in the programs, quality and cleanliness of our fantastic facility. No matter which program you or your child is involved in, you can be assured that you are receiving excellent and appropriate instruction and supervision. There is always at least one lifeguard on duty to ensure that you, your family and your guests are safe and that the pool area is clean and organized. Lifeguards can answer your general questions regarding policies and schedules.

About Our Pools Indoor Pool

The Indoor Pool is a 5 lane, 25 yard (75’) competitivestyle pool. This pool is open year round to all holding a JCC membership. The depth in the zero access area of the pool goes from zero to 4 feet, and the main part of the pool goes to 6 feet in depth. Our indoor pool is the only pool in the area running on a salt sanitization system. Feel the difference! Our indoor pool also uses UV technology to maintain the highest standards of water chemistry. The water temperature is maintained at a relaxing 84 degrees. Lessons are held in our indoor pool year round.

Bubble/Outdoor Pool Our bubble pool is a 5 lane, 33 yard competitive-style pool.

This pool is primarily utilized by our swim team, the JCC Bridgewater Tide, from mid-September to mid-May. The bubble structure is taken down for the summer for our Summer Swim Club. The pool features an intermediate pool which ranges from 1-3 feet, the main pool 3-6 feet with slide, and two kiddie pools that are one foot deep.

The pool is kept at 82 degrees year round. The bubble/ outdoor pool has a commercial salt sanitization system and also uses UV technology to keep the pool water as clean as possible.

Group Swim Lessons 6 Months - 5 Years

Parent and Child Aquatics (6 months - 21/2 years) Parents and children learn together to increase a child’s comfort level in the water and build a foundation of basic skills, such as arm and leg movements and breath control. The three levels are fun-filled and help introduce water safety concepts, encouraging a healthy recreational habit that your entire family can enjoy.

Spring/Summer 2018 Training Lifeguard Training Full Course Blended Learning Course June 18-21, 2018 12:00 - 6:00 PM Member Fee: $275 | Fee: $350 The purpose of this course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. Please note, this is a blended learning course. This course consists of classroom and online assignments. The JCC will provide you with a prepaid coupon code 3-5 days prior to the start of the course for you to register for the blended learning component through the American Red Cross. After successful completion of the course an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED will be issued. These certifications are valid for 2 years.

Pre-requisites for the course: • Must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course • Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed.

Swim goggles may be used.

• Tread water for 3 minutes using only the legs.

Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.

• Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Starting in the water swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.

Surface dive, feet first or head first to a depth of 6-10 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water. Exit the water without using a ladder or stairs.

Lifeguard Training Renewal Blended Learning Course June 20-21, 2018 12:00 - 6:00 PM Member Fee: $125 | Fee: $200 This course allows a lifeguard to review written and physical skills for Lifeguard Training and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer with an American Red Cross Instructor prior to taking the written and practical portions of the Lifeguard Training recertification test.

Prerequisites for review: Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for Lifeguards, and First Aid certifications. Successfully complete all the practical skills of lifeguard training test and score 80 percent better on all written sections. Must bring pocket mask and valid ARC Lifeguard certification cards to the challenge.

PowerMill Climber PowerMill Climber is the next generation of stair steppers. PowerMills provide great aerobic exercise and will enhance your cardiovascular fitness, burn mega calories, and tone the lower body. Presented by Mike Evangelist, MS, PT, Clinical Director of Rehabilitation/Partner, JAG Physical Therapy This talk will review common training injuries in both new and experienced runners. Learn how to build strength in some of the most important muscles in our body that we need when running, and how to maintain flexibility and mobility in our low back, hip, and knees. Additionally, learn how proper footwear and nutrition before and on race day is essential to success when trying to achieve your fitness goals.

Did you ever consider taking Martial Arts for self-defense but the time commitment and physical requirements kept you away from enrolling in a class? Would you feel more comfortable if your daughter’s knew how to avoid and escape precarious situations?

This class is free to JCC Members and to the Community, however, we are requesting a $20 donation per person per class to benefit the American Cancer Association.

Mike Evangelist earned his Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from the esteemed Northeastern University program. He has enjoyed rehabilitating a variety of different patients, including local high school and elite college athletes, as well as professional soccer, baseball, and lacrosse athletes. He specializes in sports medicine rehabilitation.

Special Needs Swimming Skills

Providing the gift of time.

The JCC Bridgewater Special Needs Swimming Skills Program is for swimmers ages 3-15 with special needs looking to explore the joys of water and learn how to swim. This program will also prepare swimmers to participate in our JCC Bridgewater Rising Tide Special Olympics Swim Team program if they choose to do so. All classes are taught by certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors who have certification and experience in adaptive aquatics. This program is provided in partnership with Autism Speaks through their Swimming and Water Safety Grant.

Our program consists of (6) 30-minute private one-onone lessons. These lessons are taught on a one-on-one basis meeting for half an hour each week depending on the instructor and participant schedule. Weekly lessons will include instruction on how to float independently and with a device, how to control breathing, kicking, basic paddling, front crawl, back stroke, and jumping/diving into the pool. Participants will also receive special attention and instruction that may help develop competency in the water as well as improve overall coordination, strength, endurance, range of movement, as well as social and attending behaviors. All students will receive individual skill cards to work on skills taught in the program outside of the class.

During this time we support children, their families and caregivers to keep them healthy, happy and strong.

Camp Chaverim, Special Needs Camp Camp Chaverim is designed for campers with Special Needs.

This program offers 1:1 staff support to shadow your camper and is tailored to their specific needs. Camp Chaverim is an individualized program and includes integration into peer groups when appropriate and modified schedules when necessary. We work with ESY schedules developing part and full time programs for your child.

An intake is required. From this intake, the camp and Special Services Director will work closely with you and your family to develop a personalized program to make the summer a successful experience for your child.

The Aphasia Communication Group meets twice a month at the JCC for people with aphasia, a communication disorder that occurs usually as the result of a stroke. The Aphasia Caregiver Support Group is for family members of people with aphasia. The first several trial sessions are free and the Group fee is $10/session.
