1 Ida & Neil’s Western wedding ceremony took place at the venue’s private Turtle Beach on a custom-built all-white platform set with a floralfestooned acrylic canopy, airy ghost chairs, and an aisle lined in all-white flowers. 2 Stacy’s day-of palette called for a contemporary mix of fresh greens, pure white, blonde woods and matte black accents. The dinner that followed was held beneath a tent decked with modern wood tables and bentwood chairs. 3 White, ivory and cream florals were offset with black dinnerware and taper candles. 3

“WE HAD ALWAYS DREAMED OF HAVING an extremely unique wedding,” shares Seattle couple Liz Freeman and Adam Francis, who said “I do” aboard a repurposed vintage Lockheed Constellation airplane at the TWA Hotel in New York City, a destination itself in the buzzy JFK International Airport. The self-proclaimed travel and architecture aficionados were wowed by the images of the hip hotel they saw online. They wanted a simple and streamlined approach, plus it was super convenient since it is at an airport. Then “once we let our family know that the plan was to get married on the plane in some very retro-inspired outfits, everyone got in on the action and showed up dressed in their 1960s best!”

active—runway sits a refurbished Lockheed Constellation airplane. The circa-1958 plane had many uses after flying for Trans World Airlines (TWA). Today it has been retrofitted for 75 guests and serves as a cocktail lounge. The Connie, as it is called, was the ceremony site for Liz and Adam. When it is not booked for private events, the festive space offers throwback-inspired cocktails (the “Vodka is My Co-Pilot” is a must-sip) and snacks from the golden age of travel.

property feels like it was “made for the ’gram,” asking Liz and Adam to choose their favorite spot in the hotel may feel like a trick question. But the couple was ready with their top spots for capturing photos: “Some A dreamy reception table. of the retro rooms like the Twister Room, Sweet ’n Glow Salon and the Sunken Lounge are ready-made for photography. The Connie Cocktail Lounge provides a terrific IG spot, as do the giant red runway halls that connect parts of the hotel.” The couple posed in all of those spots together and in some cases with family. ➺
“The most romantic spot in the hotel is right under the hanging clock, on the second floor. There’s a bridge that spans the lobby area and connects both wings of the hotel. It’s not only romantic, it’s also a terrific spot for photos!”
