Why This Program? A part of the media communications department, the Sports Information program uses project-based learning to support students who want to work in the athletic communications field. The Media Communications Department was recently ranked 17th nationally among digital communication programs. This program’s curriculum includes developing skills in radio, television, print, public relations, photography, graphic design and social media for a broadened media portfolio to highlight their skills.

Be one of the first to graduate from this program! After listening to the needs of the Siouxland community and beyond, Briar Cliff saw the opportunity to develop effective athletic communicators. Throughout the years, the media communications department has placed interns with the Harlem Globetrotters, Milwaukee Bucks, and WNBA.

You’ll have complete access to our remodeled Elinor McDevitt Freeman Writing and Design Center, which includes large-screen iMac computers equipped with the full Adobe Creative Cloud software suite, providing you the most up-to-date tools every time you log in. Interested in video or photography? Hone your skills with professional-grade cameras, and edit your work in the department’s high-powered production suite. Gain experience with radio/podcasts while utilizing our recently created recording studio.

Gain insights on what it’s like to be a working journalist, public relations guru, photographer and more, from faculty members who have decades of experience working in the digital fields. Our program allows transfer of up to nine credit hours of graduate course work from another accredited institution (if they have been completed within the past five years).
