In May this year, the Hunter Valley gathered for it’s annual night of nights; The Hunter Valley Legends & Wine Industry Awards. Alex has collected a few accolades in recent years for his outstanding work in winemaking with Briar Ridge Vineyard but this night solidified his efforts. Alex received the trophy for the Riedel 2022 Hunter Valley Young Achiever of the ThisYear.award
is presented to an individual within the Hunter Valley Wine Industry, under the age of 35, who has most actively and vibrantly contributed to the growth of the region as well as having made considerable efforts in their career and field in the Hunter Valley wine industry. Specifically, Alex has been recognised as a strong advocate for Hunter Valley wine and tourism during his thirteen years (so far) in the industry.

Currently completing his Master of Wine at the Institute of Masters of Wine, we’re very proud and super lucky to have such a skilful, innovative and driven Winemaker.

Experience Briar Ridge Vineyard at a different pace. Our seasonal Fireside Picnic Package is the answer to your Winter afternoons in the Hunter Valley. Situated in the Wine Garden, be greeted with a glass of our Signature Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir upon arrival, before making your way down to your private pre-lit wood fire. Blankets, outdoor beanbags and oversized hassocks will be set up to guarantee only the cosiest of moments. Relish on some of the finest local cheese and artisan charcuterie and a bottle of wine each, chosen by you on the day. Offered (2 hours duration) at 2 pm Thursday - Monday. 2020 Limited Release ‘Big Bully’ Cabernet Sauvignon Hold for 8-10 years. Classic Cabernet Sauvignon varietal characters of bay leaf, spearmint and black olive carried by smoky spicy oak and super fine powdery tannins. This will evolve slowly but pleasingly. 2019 Single Vineyard ‘Dairy Hill’ Shiraz Hold for 3-5 years. estrained earthy characters framing red and black cherry fruits and bright piercing acidity. Some time in bottle will contain the acidity and release some of those earthy notes into an even more complex character. 2021 Stockhausen Shiraz Hold for 5-8 years. Pure and bright. There is a lot of enjoyment now, but the structural features are here for this to be great savoury mid-weighted Hunter Valley Shiraz in 5+ years. 2022 liMited release Fiano The makingItalianalternativevarietalanameforitself. As our Fiano vines mature, the quality of fruit from our small Hunter vineyard continues to impress us. The 2022 vintage has been made using traditional techniques from Campania in Italy. Brief skin contact, ambient yeast ferment and maturation on lees in large old oak casks. Nashi pear, yellow waxy honey and creamy yoghurt flavours are wrapped up in crisp acidity. $24 Members Price (Normally $30) new release
