A CULTURE THAT WELCOMES BUSINESS For 95 years, the Lander Chamber has existed for a simple reason: businesses are stronger when they have a collective voice. Our role is to represent commerce. That means listening to what businesses are experiencing and advocating for an environment where people will invest, hire, build, and take risks. What we have heard lately is mixed. Many businesses are doing well, but also tell us they are “squeezing harder.” Costs are higher, margins are tighter, and more than a third of respondents to our recent survey described our business climate as challenging. Businesses create jobs, solve problems, generate the tax base for public services, and provide charitable support for nonprofits. That contribution from the private sector should be celebrated. That is why culture matters so much. It is remarkably easy to discourage investment. Once builders, entrepreneurs, or entire industries decide to go somewhere else, recruiting them back is much harder, if not impossible. Right now we are hearing that developers and investors are leaving, and we aren’t just talking one or two. So how do we change the culture, one that says: we want good businesses here, we value investment, we will endeavor to foster a regulatory environment that works for business, and we will work together to help good ideas succeed. That requires all of us. Businesses need to participate, tell their stories, and show up. The Chamber will keep doing its part by making sure your voice is heard.

Lander. Join the Lander Cycling Club for the 9th annual WYO-131 Gravel Race. With four different routes including 13 miles, 45 miles, 75 miles and the full 131 miles, there is something for riders of all levels. The design files will be output on the Maker Space 307 sublimation printer and used to create unique art and personalized gifts. $45. The inlay process develops beautiful jewelry with pieces of stone tightly fitted together and held by strong epoxy. The color combinations lend themselves to beautiful one of a kind jewelry pieces. Silver and stones are available for purchase, or bring your own. All tools and epoxy are provided. No experience necessary. $50. Sept. 19 Fremont County Pioneer Museum Apple Fest 1 p.m. 1443 W. Main St., Lander. Prepare to relive the ‘Apple City’. See a cider press in action, learn about past orchards and enjoy apple related activities. An apple pie contest will be held the week prior. All funds raised through the Riverton Fall Harvest Festival’s activities and events go towards the beautification, preservation and revitalization projects of the Riverton Downtowners Main Street Alliance. Emmy winning Wyoming documentary filmmaker Sophie Barksdale presents a preview excerpt of her new film ‘Crossing the Threshold’ – a veteran centered documentary about serving your country and what happens when you come home. Attendees will have the opportunity to see a preview of the film and participate in discussions with the filmmaker, veteran participants and local veterans on the topic of how veterans and civilians can co-exist and find deeper understandings. Your feedback and reflections on the excerpt will help the producers shape the final film.
