Monthly Newsletter: Business is Good, for Lander

Volume 97, No. 11

BUSINESS IS GOOD. FOR LANDER. This is it. The time of year when we typically prepare for Small Business Saturday. But this year, we're thinking bigger. Over the past several months, I've been listening to our members about the challenges facing Lander businesses: workforce shortages, housing constraints, retail leakage, and something more deeply rooted—the gradual, often unintentional vilification of the private sector, reinforced by cultural narratives spanning generations. So what are we going to do about it? We believe business is good. Not that the business economy is trending in a good direction. In fact, we're deeply concerned about its outlook, and the challenges deserve immediate attention. But business itself is good. For Lander. Businesses provide jobs and family incomes. They generate the wealth that supports charitable giving and philanthropy. They produce tax revenue that funds public services. They create value, solve problems, and give people purpose. Yet somewhere along the way, we've allowed business owners to become the money-grubbing villains of our cultural narrative, rather than recognizing them as the people helping build our community. It's time to change that. This year, Think Lander First isn't just about a single Saturday. It's about celebrating customers who give local businesses the opportunity to earn their purchases—and recognizing the businesses that work every day to earn that trust. We want to find those stories, tell them, and celebrate them. And... on November 3, it's time to vote with business in mind. You've told us what's affecting your businesses. We brought those concerns directly to Lander's mayoral candidates during our town hall, now available in 17 individual video segments. Watch the conversations, consider the candidates' approaches, and decide for yourself who you believe will best address these challenges. Our message is simple: Business is good. Let's make Lander better for business.

LANDER BUCKS FOR THE HOLIDAYS THINK LANDER FIRST, AND GIVE LOCAL BUSINESS A CHANCE AGAIN

YEAR ROUND

We often hear that businesses need to “give back,” but what did they take? Local businesses already create jobs, generate tax revenue, support nonprofits, and invest in the community we enjoy.

This holiday season, let's give back the opportunity by choosing local businesses first and keeping more Lander dollars in Lander. One easy way to start is by giving Lander Bucks as Christmas gifts and letting friends and family choose something they love while supporting the businesses that make Lander thrive.
