Listen, respond, serve community
Starting and growing my woodworking business was one of the most exciting and unnerving things I’ve ever done. There is a particular kind of risk that comes with putting your own name, time, and money behind something and lying awake at night trying to understand if it will all work. But alongside that fear, I found something pretty special: the joy of making something with my own hands, putting products into the world, and realizing that someone else valued my work. That feeling is hard to beat.
I sometimes think being a business owner is being in an infinity loop with the fear of failure and the feeling of success…again and again and again. The fear of failure can come from all sorts of places; bad timing, rising costs, weak demand, hard lessons, plain old mistakes. That is part of business. But it should not come because the environment around business has become harder than it needs to be.
Being back at the Chamber, I’ve been hearing plenty from members the good and the bad. I’ve heard pride, resilience, and optimism. I’ve also heard frustration, uncertainty, and concern about the direction of things. All of that matters.
Our job is to listen, respond, and keep getting better at serving the businesses that keep this community moving. We are going to keep growing our membership, keep strengthening the Chamber, and keep finding new ways to deliver real value to the people investing in Lander every day.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. Floats must be constructed in keeping with the Old West Historical Theme.
2. All entries must proceed in an orderly fashion down Main Street and avoid activities that will hinder the process and safety of the parade.
3. Business Entries should minimize advertising and keep to the Old West Historical theme of the Parade.
4. The cost for any entry is $25.00. This charge is necessary to help defray expenses.
5. Music, drama and dancing are encouraged on floats.
6. Please exercise caution, if float has handouts there is always a possibility of injury to children. IF HANDOUTS ARE USED, THEY MUST BE PASSED OUT BY PEOPLE WALKING THE PARADE ROUTE AT THE SIDE OF THE FLOAT. NO THROWING ITEMS FROM FLOATS/ENTRIES.
7. 1st Place winners in all categories will receive a cash prize and certificate.
8. The parade will be staged on Baldwin Creek at the Lander Valley High School Parking Lot. Parade numbers can be picked up after 8:00 am at the Lander Valley High School Parking Lot. Judging will take place during the parade route so you must be in line and ready.
9. Suggestions are available at the Chamber Office to help with float ideas and float construction. We will try to accommodate any special requests or problems in the lineup.

From May 1 through July 10, the Lander Art Center is participating in Challenge for Charities, Lander Community Foundation's ten-week community giving campaign. Every dollar given to LAC through C4C stays right here in Fremont County, funding free school workshops, youth scholarships, exhibitions, and studio access for the town. Four Lander Students Are Going to Nationals. They Need Our Community Behind Them.
This June, four young people from Lander Valley High School will travel to Richmond, Virginia, to compete in the National Speech & Debate Tournament, the largest academic competition in the world. More than 7,000 students from every state will compete during the week of June 14-19, 2026, and Lander will be represented.
WHY THIS MATTERS TO LANDER
Qualifying for Nationals is an exceptional accomplishment. The National Civic League has identified speech and debate as one of the most effective foundations for youth civic engagement in the country These students are building social conscience, community awareness, critical thinking, clear communication, and the ability to work through disagreement with evidence and respect.
When you support these four students, you are investing in exactly the kind of civic-minded young people a small community like ours needs: people who know how to listen, think critically, and advocate for what they believe in with evidence and respect.

6 p.m. Riverton Museum. 700 E. Park Ave., Riverton. The Riverton Museum is hosting Jack Schmidt for this Wyoming Community Bank Discovery Speaker Series. Schmidt has been reciting cowboy poetry for decades, carrying on the tradition of many famous cowboys.

8:30 to 10 p.m. Located at the Sinks Canyon State Park Visitor Center. 3018 Sinks Canyon Rd., Lander. Join Sinks Canyon State Park to explore the night sky with astronomers from the UW Planetarium. Guests of all ages are welcome, but please leave pets at home. Red light flashlights are encouraged. Download a night sky app like Sky Tonight or Star Tracker before heading into the Canyon. Bring a chair, snacks and beverages. Free and open to the public.
