Chase Sadowski, a current senior at Brewster High School, has been receiving money from a state fund since he was three years old. After being given non sterile medication, resulting in blood poisoning and a level five brain bleed, Chase was subjected to permanent injury and the need for medical assistance.
This is where the Medical Indemnity Fund (MIF) stepped in, promising Chase a lifetime worth of care.
However, because of a state monetary shortfall of almost 3 billion dollars, Chase and his family are being denied the care they need. At its establishment in 2011,
Después de las Fiestas: Una Reflexión sobre la Soledad y el Silencio
the Medical Indemnity Fund (MIF) was created in New York State to partially cover the cost of settlements for those who experienced medical malpractice at birth. Victims of medical malpractice can suffer from neurological disorders, creating a legal cause of action as it often causes permanent injury to the patient as a result of error from doctors. Because of the MIF, insurers of hospitals settle with the family with the MIF paying half of the settlement, and the remaining responsibility being left up to the hospital to settle. This supposedly provides care to the families through state funding, as they are to provide funding for necessities such as medicine, physical therapy, and medical equipment in order to improve their quality of life.
However, since the MIF works with a limited pool of funds, they have been forced to pay less on
that amount.
claims. This leads to people who are enrolled in the MIF being subject to receiving less care than they need (i.e., access to doctors, medicine, etc.). This could mean being denied the funds to cover the costs of a wheelchair lift for one’s van, receiving no funds to cover lodging and logistics for certain physical therapists, or even being denied basic services and quality-of-life purchases (such as a seatbelt for a wheelchair), all on the basis of technicalities. This is the main issue, as many individual claims can be considered “not medically necessary” by the MIF.
On top of difficulties with receiving basic necessities, families are subjected to dwindling funding. At its creation, the MIF was allotted funds on the basis of a decade-length projection for how many cases of medical malprac-

The Bear Facts Staff Editorial - Many Voices Standing Behind a Single Message The Insurance Crisis: A Human Perspective on America’s Broken Safety Net
The insurance industry is essential in providing financial protection to individuals and businesses, but recent events and trends have revealed a number of troubling issues that are affecting policyholders and their experiences with insurance companies. These problems are becoming harder to ignore and have raised questions about how the industry should adapt to meet the needs of consumers, as the consumer is quickly becoming the victim to the seeming whims of the insurance industry.
One major issue is the drastic rise in homeowners’ insurance premiums, especially in places that are prone to natural disasters like hurricanes and wildfires. According to data from the U.S. Treasury Department, homeowners in highrisk areas paid up to 82% more in premiums between 2018 and 2022 compared to those living in areas with lower risks. This increase is largely due to the rising frequency and severity of climate related events, which have caused some insurance companies to pull out of states like California and Florida. As a result, many homeowners are seeing their policies canceled, leaving them vulnerable and financially strained.
$150 billion annually. This not only affects the bottom line for insurance companies but also has a ripple effect on premiums, making it harder for consumers to afford coverage.
The challenges facing the insurance industry aren’t just abstract national issues—they directly impact local communities like Putnam County.
The recent case of Luigi Mangione brings these issues to the forefront in a more dramatic way. Mangione, who has been accused of killing a CEO from UnitedHealthcare, has been painted as a sort of “Robin Hood” figure by some of his supporters. They claim his actions were in response to the greed and corruption they see in big insurance companies that prioritize profits over the well-being of their customers. While the case itself is still unfolding, it has sparked conversations about how far some people are willing to go when they feel that the system is rigged against them, as well as spotlighting the frustration of so many who have been spurned by the insurance system.
The insurance industry is facing a critical moment, dealing with rising premiums, complicated claims processes, and the effects of climate change. In order to keep up with these challenges, insurers will need to find new ways to adapt and innovate, all while keeping the best interests of policyholders at the center of their efforts.
and you could end up with a big bill. Many people in Putnam County have trouble finding “in-network” doctors nearby. This makes it harder for families to get the care they need without driving long distances or paying extra.
On top of rising premiums, dealing with insurance claims can be a complicated process. Policyholders often find themselves facing delays and disputes over what is covered, making it hard to get the support they need. For example, in automobile insurance, if someone is in an accident but wasn’t wearing their seatbelt, the insurance company might argue that the injuries were more severe because the person wasn’t following safety precautions, resulting in a reduced payout, leaving the person with less financial help than they were expecting.
Climate change also has a major impact on the insurance sector. As natural disasters become more frequent, the cost of reinsurance (which is insurance for insurance companies) has skyrocketed, with losses from natural catastrophes now averaging
The challenges facing the insurance industry aren’t just abstract national issues— they directly impact local communities like Putnam County. Despite living in a region that should offer access to quality healthcare, many residents find themselves struggling with the same systemic problems. (Read related article on pg. 1). Living in Putnam County should mean having access to reliable healthcare, but for many residents, that’s not the case. It’s frustrating to hear about friends and neighbors paying for costly health insurance only to find out they can’t use it when they need it most.
A major problem is that some insurance plans have very few doctors in their networks. If your doctor isn’t “in-network,” your insurance might not cover the cost of your visit,
Monthly premiums for plans in our area can be over $1,200, who shows another issue: the high cost of insurance itself. That’s a huge amount of money, and it’s not even guaranteed to cover all your medical needs. Some residents have been denied coverage for important treatments or found that hospitals they need to visit aren’t included in their insurance plans.
Imagine needing specialized care at a hospital outside the county, only to be told that your insurance won’t cover it. You’re left with two bad choices: travel far to find someone in-network or pay out of pocket. UnitedHealth Group, the nation’s largest health insurer, has been criticized for delaying or denying patient care to boost profits. That’s not fair, especially when people are already paying significant amounts for their insur-
ance.
There are programs to help, like New York’s State of Health Marketplace, which gives advice about choosing and using insurance. But even with help, the bigger issue is clear: the system isn’t working.
We need insurance companies to be transparent about what they cover and to provide better options for not just residents of Putnam County, but citizens everywhere. Additionally, we need leaders to take action and ensure families can access affordable healthcare. One way we can foster change is by creating a forum directed towards our local officials, such as our Putnam County Executive, Kevin Byrne, taking in account the voices of our residents and their personal experiences. Citizens can also call to action, initiating public meetings to advocate for themselves and to gain legislative support for reforms. Everyone deserves the right to see a doctor and receive the treatment they need without financial hardship, and by taking actions on a local level, we can start to enact that change.
Michelle’s Take - REAL Letters from REAL Students - Talking to the One Who Caught Your Eye
Dear Michelle...
How can I get my community hours up to 50 hours? I only have 11 right now. This is an awesome question! Brewster High School requires 20 hours but here are ways to increase your hours.
- Join clubs (they likely offer service hours)
- Reach out to your guidance counselor, family, friends, or use Facebook for service/tutoring opportunities
- Get involved in outside activities or organizations (sports, church, etc.)
- Brewster Track and Field Youth Camp (summer), Second Chance Foods
- Use VolunteerMatch and search “Brewster, NY’
- Ask teachers if they need help organizing materials in their classrooms (many appreciate this!)
I wish you the best in finding enriching opportunities!
Why don’t you make good chocolate chip cookies anymore?
A recurring theme I see. I thought I did, sorry.
How would you describe senior year?
Great! Senior year is all about preparing for life after high school and making the most of the time you have left. Mainly, I have much more time and freedom. Regarding workload, I’m taking less classes than junior year which leaves me with more study halls to do my homework and relax, which is helpful. Moreover, I can drive, go to more sports events, and hang out with friends. With respect to college applications, it can be stressful, but you’ll get through it. Once the process ends, you’ll feel more relieved. I appreciate high school more and more and look forward to what the rest of the year entails!
This year is quite transformative to say the least. It offers a unique chance to learn about yourself and who you want to become. While I can’t speak for every senior and their experience this year, it’s been fun and manageable so far. As I prepare to leave “The Den,” I suggest continuing to seek out opportunities to grow academically and personally in high school so you can look back and be happy. It’s never too late.
How do you talk to a guy you like that you’ve never talked to before?
After hanging out with friends, I’ve learned it’s all about confidence. Some advice: having friends with you can make it less awkward, and start by introducing yourself with something in common—like an interest, class, or activity you’re doing. Sometimes, a simple convo to get to know them better is the best place to start. If you already know each other somewhat, you won’t have to introduce yourself. At this point, make sure to trust yourself, interpret the situation, and flow with it. Don’t rush it either—treat it almost like a normal conversation. As you get to know them, you’ll see if you want to be friends or something more.
Other points to keep in mind: don’t force it. Be who you are, and the right person will come your way. Stay calm—in the end, it’s just another conversation. I wish you the best and remember, it’s good to put yourself out there. You’ve got this, yolo!
How do I make time for my hobbies and interests while also keeping up with school work (especially for AP classes)?
Balancing hobbies with school is tough, but it all comes down to time management. A big part is accepting that you won’t always have time to practice your hobbies. It’s about fitting them in between work and study. Use study halls and/or your lunch period to get work done: it’s not always easy but I’m confident you’ll manage!
After school, I dedicated an hour and a half to do what I enjoy: running. Then, I tackled homework, even if I was up late, because I knew I needed time to do what I loved. Having this break was helpful before I dove into school work. Perhaps try something similar—starting your hobbies first and then working, or working first, then relaxing with your interests.
The key is balance. Don’t overwhelm yourself. Set aside time for your hobbies, saying something like “2-3 days a week, I’m going to give myself (x amount of time) to do (my hobby).”
With the responsibility of AP classes, prioritize your work but also explore your interests. It’s hard, no doubt, but if you manage your time wisely, it’ll be worth it! I hope this helped!
Hey Michelle, I’ve been talking to this guy. I’ve known him for a while through a mutual friend, but we never really talked until now. I’ve never had issues before, but whenever I’m around him I literally get so nervous and can’t say anything. He’s not usually shy, and he’s quiet around me, but then when we’re texting we have so much chemistry. How can I come out of my shell and not seem like a quiet loser, while still staying cool and nonchalant?
Hi! It’s a great thing to put yourself out there—thank you for the question! First, it’s a good sign that you guys are texting and there’s chemistry. Your nerves are completely normal, especially early on. From what I can gather, it sounds like he’s also nervous, so you’re both likely in the same boat, which isn’t a bad thing! Since it seems this is the case, there’s not much to lose. He’s probably thinking the same thing and wants to talk but is too nervous.
Maybe try separating yourself from your friend groups to talk privately—he might feel more comfortable that way. Your friends are also there for you!! If you’re still feeling nervous, with your friends, approach his friend group and start talking in a group setting to ease the nerves/pressure you both may be feeling. It sounds like this is a moment of inaction, so think about where you want it to go and once you know, take this opportunity to act! I don’t want your nerves to cause you to dwell on “what could have been.” You’ve already started talking to him via text—keep it going!
You’ve got this! On a side note: there’s no need to stay “cool and nonchalant”—it’s admirable to put yourself out there, don’t worry about that!

Point/Counterpoint: Should TikTok Get Banned? Is it
a
damaging addition to our world or an endless source of engaging entertainment?
YES - Isabella DePaola
TikTok has been known by many generations in recent years as one of the most popular social media platforms. However, the rise of this app has led to significant challenges in terms of concerns about privacy, national security, mental health, and its broader societal impact. These topics have led to several talks and threats about banning the platform in the U.S. and other countries. There exists numerous reasons on why removing this site would prove beneficial to the country’s well-being.
One main reason that government officials stress over in regards to TikTok is the privacy and security concerns it raises due to it not being an American owned website. TikTok was created by a Chinese company named ByteDance. This company is subject to all of China’s data-sharing laws such as the law that states companies must comply with government requests for data, even if it involves international users. To add on, there are severe fears that TikTok data could be accessed by the Chinese government for surveillance or intelligence purposes. U.S. government officials have expressed their concerns that this could pose a national security risk, particularly if sensitive information about citizens or government officials is exposed. Banning TikTok could prevent these security breaches and protect sensitive/confidential information.
Additionally, the social media app has proved to be damaging to the overall Mental Health of the younger generations in the U.S.. It is a fact that TikTok’s algorithm promotes addictive behaviors and excessive screen time due to its nonstop entertainment meeting the wants of the brain so quickly with a scroll of the finger. As well, the website is linked to increased anxiety, loneliness, and depression, particularly among teens. This is a result of people using their platforms to put out the best version of themselves for the world to see, causing extremely unrealistic standards that young people compare themselves to. It is a vicious cycle that relies on naive individuals who have nothing better to do than
sit on their phones and pick themselves apart while stalking popular creators. The app preys on these weak persons by using their insecurities to promote their “TikTok Shop” and people, gullible and self-conscious, feel that if they buy the products that their influencer idols use, they might begin to feel comfortable in their own skin. While the effects of this site are permanently engraved on the self-esteem of the people it hunted, banning this social media platform might end this irreversible damage and help future generations develop healthier online habits.
Moreover, TikTok is a large algorithm that is a breeding ground for people to spread false information and inaccurate content without proper verification. The ability for a large percentage of videos to gain a lot of traction makes it so that it is harder to escape these deceptions. The website also encourages the rapid spread of misinformation on important topics such as politics, health, and current events. This leads to the less-educated part of consumers being infected with nonfactual ideas, making the generation’s values largely demented. TikTok also promotes harmful challenges and trends that pose significant safety risks. For example, one challenge that was spread around the app was the Cinnamon Challenge where people inhale a spoonful of cinnamon all at once. This is a highly dangerous, and possibly even deadly action, as it can cause you to gag, choke, cough, and have a burning sensation in the mouth, nose, and throat.
NO - Alexandra Bicserdy
TikTok, a popular social media known for making 15-second long videos, has become a global sensation. In the last couple of years, there has been debates on whether or not TikTok should be banned because of privacy and how safe this app really is. However, despite these concerns, banning TikTok would overlook its many positive contributions; including, creativity, economic growth, expressing themselves freely, and having a way to connect with others around the world.
While TikTok offers mass entertainment and is a resource that many people use to educate themselves and even make money, its risks outweigh its benefits. TikTok has many privacy concerns, mental health effects, spreads of misinformation, and more. Banning TikTok could protect its users and foster a healthier, safer digital environment. Although many do enjoy TikTok and would be sad if it were to be gone, society should ultimately prioritize ethical and secure platforms that promote well-being.
One of the reasons for not banning TikTok is its role in promoting creativity. This app allows people to create and share short videos, using filters and trending audios. This setup means that any person, regardless of their background in life, could go viral. For many creators, this app provides a platform to show their talents and gain a good amount of followers. This easy access has made content creation more available to everyone, allowing people to be more comfortable in this community. TikTok has enabled people to express themselves whether it’s dancing, singing, cooking, or making funny videos you could watch all day, making this platform a powerful tool for expressing creativity, making a unique space where anyone could create or share content that shows their personal ideas. Banning TikTok would take away their creative outlet, silencing their voices and opportunities to gain millions of followers just like them.
Other than creativity, TikTok also plays a big role in economic growth. For millions of TikTok creators, this app has become a primary source of income for them. Many users earn money through brand partnerships, sponsors, and advertisements. TikTok has also created a Creator Fund which pays the users based on how well their content performs. Some creators even have enough money that TikTok could become their full-time job, meaning that it’s supporting their families and themselves. Many businesses have used this platform to promote their products, and small businesses have used TikTok to advertise and connect with customers. Without TikTok, many small businesses would lose a lot of customers, leading to a shutdown. This famous app has also created many jobs that include Content Creators. TikTok has become a key part of the job market, and banning it could lead to the loss of thousands of jobs. Content creators, influencers, and small companies use TikTok
to reach out to the public and use it as a marketing tool. Banning TikTok could lead to economic downfall, by cutting off these opportunities for millions of people who depend on this app. Instead of banning, the government should focus on how many people would go unemployed after the ban.
TikTok has also made it easier for people from all over the world to connect and share their cultures. It allows users to share their own traditions, food, and daily lives, thus allowing others to see different ways of living and thinking. Through trends, challenges, and viral videos, TikTok has started conversations all over the world, giving people a chance to learn about each other. It’s amazing how something as simple as a dance or a funny video can bring people together and help us understand where others are coming from. TikTok makes it easier to explore different parts of the world. The app has brought together communities that might have never interacted because of this platform. In a world full of global conflicts, this app shows how social media can bring people together. It helps us connect, share ideas, and see that we’re more alike than we think. If TikTok was banned, we’d miss out on so many opportunities to connect with people from different backgrounds and countries. It’s like having a global community right at your fingertips! Now, a lot of people are worried about TikTok and how it handles personal data. Some think the app collects too much information about the person. While these concerns are real, banning the app isn’t the solution. What we really need are stronger rules to make sure TikTok is following privacy laws. Also, other social media apps like Facebook and Instagram collect tons of data too, but these apps aren’t getting banned. The government could create better rules and make sure TikTok protects millions of Americans’ privacy. So instead of banning this app, we should focus on making sure the app is being responsible with our data.
Finally, TikTok has become a huge economic tool for so many Americans. It gives creators a way to make money, grow their business, and make new friends. If TikTok were banned, it would seriously hurt the economy by taking away opportunities for millions of people. Instead of banning it, the government should focus on making sure there are better rules to keep TikTok safe for us!
Drawing The Line: Ideologies, Stereotypes, and the Petty Feuds We Start
We are no longer using our opinions to come to an intelligent consensus but are tearing ourselves apart as a result of them byGianaKusterer
Division is the hinge between everything and nothing. It separates the world into categories that, on the surface, make everything clearer, more manageable, even beautiful in their crisp clarity. But these same categories also hide what they are trying to illustrate, creating shadows of things that can’t be fully seen, can’t be truly grasped. And, as we’ll come to see, the more division we impose on the world, the more the world becomes a puzzle of pieces too small to ever reassemble.
When looking at the bigger picture, division isn’t something recent, by any means. However, when reminiscing on this past year, I can’t help but notice that most of the worlds’ problems stem from the colors that define us; red or blue. I believe what is even crazier is how this was all planned out, I mean, we were warned by our very first president who feared that political parties would create divisions within the country, leading to factionalism. He believed that parties might prioritize their own interests over the common good and the well-being of the nation. Have Washington’s fears become reality? For me, political conversations are a minefield I avoid. Not because I lack opinions, but because discussing them often feels futile. Too often, we reject the possibility of differing views, refusing to listen or try to understand. The stubbornness and self-righteousness that dominate these discussions turn me off entirely, reducing what could be meaningful dialogue to a battle of egos, where perfor-
mance and power games overshadow real issues.
When looking at people with blue hair, or people displaying the American flag, it’s already known as to what ‘color’ they are, or in this case who they are voting for. I mean, I understand stereotypes, and how they aren’t always what they seem, but why is this the case? Why do we associate the Catholic faith with the right and feminists with the left, for example? I might be asking why, but really, what is the point in labeling off our country, tearing apart a union that once couldn’t care less about who voted for who?
I’m huge on respect. With me, everyone starts on the same level of respect, and as
time goes on, you either gain my respect or gradually lose it. This is pretty standard, and a basis that has built America to a respectable nation. So why is it hard for our voters to grasp this concept? I’m not going to say should, but more like a need for our nation to accept our difference in opinions, our flaws, and difference in ways of living; because if we don’t make the effort to try and see from a different perspective, then what’s the point in even having an opinion?
Defining someone by their political party reduces the entire complexity of a human being: their memories, contradictions, secret fears, unarticulated hopes, the way they sometimes laugh too loud at bad jokes or cry
at sunsets, into a single, oversimplified box with a big, clunky label slapped on it. It’s like saying, “Oh, you’re just this,” when the actual reality of anyone’s interior life is so much messier and richer than any party platform written by a committee trying to appeal to millions. People aren’t static. They change, they shift, they contradict themselves. To define them by a political affiliation is to flatten all that nuance into a two-dimensional cartoon, which is easier for us, sure, because it means we don’t have to deal with the messy business of seeing someone as a fully autonomous, unpredictable person. But it’s also a kind of violence, or at least a shortcut that cheats us of the deeper truth: that we all share a humanity that’s bigger and scarier and more beautiful than any party could ever capture.
I blame this on one thing and one thing only, social media. Whether it’s TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, etc., I cannot exaggerate the amount of posts I saw the day after the election: not regarding the candidates, but concerning the voters that determined the election. The amount of feuding on these platforms was horrendous and uncalled for, making me question the world we live in. I’m not saying you have to love everyone, but live simultaneously. Live in a world where we all can coexist. Live with no regrets in how we treat others and what we choose to spend our energy on. At the end of the day, it’s what we spend our energy on that determines if we have lived a life of fulfillment.
Ideological division and opposing perspectives often manifest themselves in political or social conflict. (Photo courtesy shutterstock)

Small Business Spotlight - Froggy’s Sandwiches & Pizza and Pasta 22
The charm of these local food shops in Brewster, where every bite tells a story
by Amirah Alexander
Following up from the first issue, we once again turn the spotlight on the small businesses that make our area truly special. These two businesses help create the close Brewster community that we all love. They have tasty food that is perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and amazing service that deserves to be recognized.
Pizza and Pasta 22
A newer establishment among Brewster’s many local Italian shops, located off of Route 22 where Dunkin’ Donuts used to be, Rigo, the owner of the restaurant, worked at a different pizza shop for over twenty years prior to opening this one. However, he eventually had to leave the pizzeria behind, giving him the chance to live his dream of creating his own. After being established in October 2023, the family-operated business has already made a name for itself in the Brewster community, gathering plenty of customers in the past year. The business has grown through the talk of Brewster residents, with many people sharing reviews or telling their friends and family about this hidden gem. While most would view this as a perfect marketing strategy, Pizza and Pasta likes to view it as a way of connecting with everyone and “creating a family.”
Staying true to its name, the restaurant serves a variety of delicious pastas and pizzas in addition to traditional Italian dishes like Chicken Francese or eggplant Parmesan. Along with their signature entrees, they have plenty of desserts as well, including tiramisu, Italian ice, and cannolis.
This place is delicious, yet affordable, and should definitely be the next place you get Friday-night pizza from.
Froggy’s Sandwiches
Another delicious staple in Brewster, Froggy’s Sandwiches is a deli that originated in Somers, NY, founded by two brothers John and Anthony Russo in 2011. However, Froggy’s eventually made its way over to Brewster, and received just as much popularity. The small chain is backed by the idea of hard, but rewarding work. The Russo broth-
ers both began working at a very young age as a way of providing for themselves and their household. They took this lesson of hard work and self-sufficiency and became inspired to open their own business. Through trial and error, the Froggy’s brand we know today was eventually formed. Froggy’s serves several breakfast and lunch sandwiches along with convenience store snacks. Additionally, Froggy’s also offers sandwiches in bowl forms, which can be customized to their customers preferences.
However, what makes Froggy’s special is not just their unique sandwiches, but it is also the amount of passion they have for the workers and customers. They want to build a family with their workers where everyone works side by side and a community with their customers through the food they serve fresh everyday. Something to note about the deli is that they purposely close early every day in order to allow their
workers to be able to eat dinner with their families; their motto is that “family always comes first.”
Both businesses give us some tasty options in Brewster. If you want a quick but delicious breakfast, Froggy’s Sandwiches is the place to go. If you want a satisfying warm meal at the end of the day, then head to Route 22 to Pizza and Pasta. Both places have amazing things to offer their customers outside of their food. They create a friendly atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re part of a close family, encouraging you to come back all the time. Both establishments have owners with a deep love for the business and what they do. They have worked hard to provide great service to the people of Brewster and continue to add to our community. Any time you need great food to eat or great people to be around, Froggy’s Sandwiches and Pizza and Pasta 22 are the places to go to.

Retire your favorite flip-flops (am I the only one crying at the sad farewell?) until the snow has melted and the flowers start to grow again. I’d be lying if I said I was happy about winter officially being here and here to stay, but hey, spring, summer, and fall can’t last forever, right? I can’t be the only one that wants to part ways with winter after the holidays and wish it good tidings until next year… but alas, we are stuck with the frostbite-inducing temperatures and big clunky snow boots until further notice. So, we might as well embrace winter with open arms (well, maybe not open arms per say, but rather, an extended stick to shake hands… we have to stay civil) by hiding our frosty blues behind some of this year’s favorite winter fashion trends!
Bows, bows, and more bows!
You can also place bows on the zippers of your backpack or purse, or add some flare to your jeans by tying a bow around your waist or in one of the loopholes of the jeans. These are just some of the simple and easy ways to add bows to your life! Look at that, now you’re one step closer to becoming the bow-loving owner of that table!
UGGs… shall I say more?
I am sure that many of you know of the 21st century obsession with bows. Everywhere you go, you will find a bow. It could be on clothing, on shoes, on bags, on kitchenware, and even on your toilet paper. Just the other day, I was in Marshalls and came face-to-face with a side table, but it wasn’t just any old side table, it was a bow side table: a wooden carved bow painted pink acted as the legs to hold up a marble top. Would I buy it for myself?… No, but somebody will, because people love bows. Some of the ways that you can include bows in your life (that don’t include buying a piece of furniture made from said bows) is tying them to the back of your boots or adding a lace or cotton bow to your hair.
UGGs: the pinnacle of winter. They go with every outfit, look good, and keep our feet warm… what more can you ask for? Well, if I had to ask for one thing, I’d ask for slightly lower prices, cause, come on, dropping over $100 for a pair of shoes is not something that many people want to do. But, alas, I do not have the power to lower the price of my favorite shoe, so I guess my bank account will have to continue crying silent tears. Anyway, we got off topic. You can style UGGs by pairing them with jeans and a sweater, or casualize them by grabbing your favorite sweats and hoodie. While I couldn’t recommend wearing these fuzzy boots to a funeral or wedding, they still stand as a very versatile shoe that acts as a staple of the winter season.
Sweata Weatha!!
Guess what time it is!! Sweata Weatha! If you’ve never seen the SNL skit with Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph, drop whatever you’re doing and go watch it… trust me, you’ll be saying it every time you hear the
word weather or sweater. Sweaters can be an all year staple in everyone’s wardrobe, but I think that they fit best with winter. You can wear them with jeans, leggings, flare leggings, sweatpants, anything! There are hundreds of different varieties of sweaters too: cropped, chunky knit, thin, knitted, oversized, cashmere, cotton, argyle, turtle neck, cardigan, and so much more! So, grab your favorite sweater, pull it on, sit down with a friend and say (can you guess?)… It’s Sweata Weatha!
Jeans, obviously... They are in everyone’s closet, whether we actually wear them or not is another thing, but, I can take a wild guess and assume that everyone owns at least one pair of jeans. I am sure that I won’t be the first one to say it, but jeans are not comfortable. Okay fine, maybe some are, but would I ever choose to wear them on a lazy day at home… that has to be a solid no. But, despite this, I still love them, and many others do as well. They are versatile and can be styled up or down, so they make picking out an outfit relatively easy. The most popular
jeans in 2025, according to Glamour.com will be wide leg jeans, straight leg jeans, flare jeans, and barrel jeans. I will stand by this list and fight anyone that tries to put skinny jeans on it… because those tight, suffocating jeans are being buried in 2024 right beside the shoelace around the waist in 2020 and 2000’s skinny scarves. Say hello to wide leg jeans this winter!
Fold Over Pants are THE pants of 2025! If you haven’t already met, let me introduce you to fold over pants. They are stylish, comfortable, versatile, and can be found almost anywhere you go. The pants are similar to yoga pants or flare leggings, but are usually a cotton or sweater material with a waistband that folds over. These trendy pants first started gaining popularity towards the end of winter last year, but when summer rolled around, they seemed to have been forgotten. But, winter is here again, and they are making their second appearance… only this time, they are here to stay. Now that you’ve been formally introduced, are you ready to buy a pair of your own? I think I am!
Well, there you have it, some of this year’s winter fashion trends! I think that winter fashion always deserves some spotlight, because despite this frigid season being one that many may hate, it allows us to get cozy in clothes that we can only wear for a handful of months. So, cover yourself with bows, cross your fingers for a snow day (had to include that one because we need at least one snow day before spring, right?), pull on your UGGs, sweater, and jeans/fold over pants, and enjoy winter!

Winter Illnesses - Those Unwelcome Houseguests Who Just Won’t Leave
Putting your health first will put success in the forefront of your life
by Lina Silva Bermeo
As we all know, illnesses are pretty common during winter. This is due to the climate change, frequent rains and low temperatures that increase the likelihood of acquiring any disease. When cold air enters your nose, your body is less effective at fighting the virus. In addition, there are several ways that diseases are spread. Diseases are usually spread from person to person, meaning that you are more likely to get infected if you have contact with someone that already has the virus. However, you can also get infected by sharing your food or your water. Additionally, some illnesses are also transmitted through bug bites, such as dengue fever, chikungunya, etc.
Today we are going to be talking about some pretty common illnesses everyone gets during this frosty season:
Common Cold
There are around 200 viruses that can cause a common cold. Fun fact, there is no cure for a common cold, however, you are able to reduce your symptoms by taking certain medications. Something that can also help in your recovery is rest and increase liquids in your diet. A common cold usually lasts from a few days to several weeks. A Common Cold can be detected by its symptoms that include: scratchy throat, headache, chills, watery eyes, etc.
Flu
Something that you might know is the influenza viruses keep evolving and that is the reason why influenza vaccines are updated every year. It lasts for about a week but the fatigue, one of its symptoms, lasts for about two weeks or more. To reduce your symptoms you should stay hydrated and well rested.
Bronchitis (acute and chronic)
Bronchitis is a respiratory condition that affects the airways of the lungs. There are two different types of Bronchitis. Acute occurs when the airways of the lungs get really inflamed leading to an excessive production of mucus that can be really uncomfortable. Chronic will never completely go away, and
Learning to get through and cope during one of the most difficult seasons by
Ashley Guerra
As the holidays pass and the weather gets colder, it’s safe to say that our emotions and routines aren’t the same. It’s hard to remain stable when the days are as off as how we feel. Many people wonder why this happens, why they feel so burnt out over the winter or even feel as if they are depressed. These emotions are completely normal and have science to back them up. Seasonal Affective Disorder is a type of depression, where persons depending on the season, experience depression-like symptoms. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, “Studies indicate that people with [Seasonal Affective Disorder], especially winter-pattern [Seasonal Affective Disorder], have reduced levels of the brain chemical serotonin, which helps regulate mood. Research also suggests that sunlight affects levels of molecules that help maintain normal serotonin levels.”
While it may feel like symptoms will only get better until warmer seasons come around, I’m here to tell you that there is help and solutions available. One way to promote better well being during the winter season is self care, get more activity in your day like walking, a light 30 minute workout, or even fixing your sleeping pattern. Tasks like these
are so simple but often disregarded as we get caught up with our busy schedules and personal lives.
Another way to reduce symptoms or feelings associated with Seasonal Affective Disorder is seeking out treatments like light therapy, talk therapy, and medications. The disorder is rooted by an imbalance of chemicals; serotonin, a neurotransmitter that affects mood, melatonin, the hormone that helps us go to sleep and affects our mood, and lastly, Vitamin D, which decreases with less sun exposure and affects serotonin levels. The imbalance of these chemicals can be hard to manage especially throughout the duration of winter, so don’t be afraid to get the help you need.
Finally, the last and most important way to reduce symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder is having healthy coping mechanisms and support. You and your surroundings matter, make sure that you are able to get the help you need or have a trusted adult/guardian to talk to about your emotions. Allow yourself to socialize, try new ways to manage your stress like journaling, and stick to your treatments.
it is really common among smokers. Some of its symptoms are a lot of coughing, sore throat, runny nose, headaches, etc. To treat this illness you are highly recommended to take some pain relievers, drink plenty of fluids and avoid lung irritants.
Covid-19
This illness varies, it might show symptoms such as fever, congestion, loss of the sense of smell and taste or it can just not show symptoms at all, making it pretty dangerous, that is why you should be staying up to date on vaccinations. This disease usually lasts for a week or two but of course you have to help your recovery by taking your medications and isolate to protect the people around you
Pneumonia
This happens when your lungs are infected, causing air sacs to fill with pus. This is caused by the flu or covid-19 meaning it can be transmitted from person to person, making it contagious. During these cases, antibiotics are required during your treatment. To get better sooner you should avoid drinking alcoholic beverages, get plenty of sleep, drink plenty of fluids, take your medications that were previously prescribed by your doctor.
Winter illnesses are indeed really common and easy to get. However, here are some tips to prevent you from acquiring any: get vaccinated to protect you against any viruses, have good hygiene, manage your sleep-schedule and stress, and of course, stay physically active. Additionally, boosting your immune systems is primordial for you to stay strong and healthy. The most important thing to boost your immune system is your diet. Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Zinc, Probiotics, Elderberry are all supplements needed to support your immune system. These vitamins are found on citrus fruits, such as oranges and lemons; berries, fermented foods, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, pineapple, papaya, kiwi, and many others. So, make sure to bundle up this winter, boost your immune system, and ward off all those germs!!
The Obligations of Gift Giving: Get It Right the First Time
Your guide on how NOT to give gifts that aren’t special
by Jaylin Morales
What present should I get for that one person? This is a common problem, whether that is for a Secret Santa, or even someone special during any holiday associated with giving presents. Valentine’s Day, Birthdays, Christmas, Hanukkah, those types of holidays where promotions for companies are at their peak. Why do we give during these holidays? While they were meant to symbolize selfless action and really thinking of others, holidays and special occasions have evolved into something that others dread.
I am not arguing that all holidays are stupid and solely created for consumerism. I am merely making the argument that we must honor the actual meaning of holidays, and when giving gifts to someone becomes a hassle, you lose the sense of purpose for being selfless. I am a huge advocate for thoughtful gifts. However, you must understand the significance of giving said gift and how it applies to the person you are giving it to. I’ll give an example. Let’s say that you have a friend who loves to write. This friend is always writing poetry, letters, and writes messages that affirm appreciation for the people they love most. Take time to think how this friend would perhaps appreciate having a letter written for them, and even if you aren’t the best writer, learning how to write something for them would be quite special. Now, the friend will appreciate the gift more as it stands out from anything else they have received. Apply this knowledge, think about the gift you are giving and how it would be significant for that person;
something personalized, custom, something they can use, something symbolic. Gifts are meant to “speak” to the receiver. Do NOT get something just because it’s popular. So now that we have uncovered the meaning of a thoughtful gift, let’s talk about this pressure we face now to give EVERYONE a gift during the holiday season. Gift giving evolved from a symbol of appreciation and love to, nowadays, somewhat a display of power and or success. This becomes more apparent with the idea of “spoiling someone,” and even if you are firm in your belief of special gifts, some people may take offense when you don’t give them a gift. Yes, their offense would be justified if they gave you a gift during the holiday, but if they are outright materialistic about such things, then it is fine to offer an experience as an alternative.
Now comes the same question: what can I get that person that I NEED to get a gift for? To this, I say to take note of what the person seems to like, such as noticing if they are always wearing the same brand and getting a product or gift card for it. If you overhear excitement about a brand new game or the most recent lip gloss they got for themselves, something simple like that might be a good gift. If they like music, you can make a playlist. If you can bake, find out what they like and make it for them.
In the end, it’s about displaying some form of thoughtfulness as that was the purpose of the special occasion.

Unpacking the Risks of Processed Meats
They might be tasty, but they sure can be unhealthy
by Mikaela Russano
Processed meats are quick, convenient, and tasty. It’s easy to grab a ham and cheese sandwich at the deli when running late, or a hot dog while exploring vendors at lunchtime. So easy, in fact, that we neglect to acknowledge that processed meats are classified as class one carcinogens, meaning they are linked to the development of cancer. Processed meats are joined by tobacco, radiation, alcohol, and asbestos in this category that displays the most dangerous substances having conclusively been proven to cause cancer in humans. And while having a slice of pepperoni pizza might not be as bad as smoking a cigarette, there are some significant health risks linked to both practices that aren’t commonly discussed in regard to processed meat.
Nitrates and nitrides are particularly dangerous substances that are added to processed meats for curing purposes. They serve to better preserve perishable foods and stop the growth of harmful, potentially deadly, microorganisms. But they also damage the cells that line the human bowel, which can lead to colorectal cancer. The World Health Organization estimates that 34,000 people die every year from cancer likely developed due to a diet high in processed meats. While the likelihood of health complications increases with the amount of processed meat consumed, experts cannot provide recommendations as to whether or not there is a safe amount of meat to eat.
Aside from the risk of colorectal cancer, processed meats are also known to cause other health complications. Salt is added to meat when processed for its preservation and overall taste. However, this increased amount of sodium causes the body to retain water, which in turn raises blood pressure. This process strains the heart, forcing it to work harder to pump blood throughout the body and causing a condition known as high blood pressure, which often leads to heart disease or failure if left untreated. The high saturated fat content in processed meat can also cause high cholesterol. This condition can become dangerous when bad cholesterol or LDL builds up in the arteries, creating plaques that lead to blockages. These developments are another common cause of heart disease, and often are additionally

linked to heart attacks.
Processed meat has also been proven to increase the risk of developing type two diabetes. This condition can lead to several complications, including heart attack and stroke, and it occurs when the body becomes insulin-resistant or is unable to produce the chemical properly. Insulin is released by the pancreas and is a vital component in the process of lowering blood sugar levels. Processed meat has the potential to harm the pancreas, which can increase the risk of pancreatic cancer and negatively affect the production of insulin.
While we may find several foods that are delicious and convenient to eat in everyday life, including several processed meats, it’s important to note the dangers that are associated with their consumption. Knowing the risks linked to certain foods can allow us to make informed and mindful decisions about what we eat on a daily basis. Most foods are safe to eat in moderation, so maybe it’s best to save processed meats for special occasions and not regular meals.
Still Water and How It Can Affect Your Health
Unveiling the risks of the silent substance
by Maria Denaro
What is still water and what makes it so dangerous?
Recently, I’ve stumbled upon lots of videos pertaining to still water and its hazardous properties. These videos typically contain an explorer exclaiming their distress after identifying still water that resides in an abandoned urban building. Initially, I was under the impression that still water was just a corrosive or toxic substance that impersonates water, however, that isn’t exactly the case.
The atomic makeup of still water is the same as regular water; it’s what adheres to the water that makes it toxic. The adhesion of waterborne bacteria, called biofilms, on the surface of the water causes a slime type construct which protects and harbors more bacteria which can be released and form even more biofilms. This chain reaction can be caught early at the adhesion state and can be reversed; which is what the flow of water does. So when bodies of water like swamps, lakes, and lagoons are entirely stagnant, the likelihood of biofilms forming is increased. Still water can be found in our area in any abandoned buildings with bodies of water residing in them.
Furthermore, mosquitoes love to lay their eggs on still water. While the larvae aren’t directly harmful to humans, the bacteria they feed off of is. Some pathogens and diseases that stagnant water can contain are legionel-
la, e. coli, nontuberculous mycobacteria, and pseudomonas-related pneumonia. Although many are aware of this, it can still be a challenge to avoid its dangerous effects. Pathogens can become airborne; meaning one can be affected before even seeing the water and if one happens to fall into the water, their brain can be dissolved by brain-eating amoeba.
Now, what about mundane bodies of water? Is your glass of water still water? While a glass of water is obviously still, it is non-bacterial which is why it’s drinkable and the key difference between the two. How do we prevent bacteria growth in pools? When the pool is open it is treated with weekly PH checks to insure the acidic balance of the water. This is done with chemicals such as chlorine and salt converted chlorine. During closing season, the pool’s water level is drained below the jet pipes to prevent freezing, and covered with a dark mesh to leave sun and debris out.
In order to identify stagnant water you can look for any discoloration that might indicate contamination. However, if one is exposed to stagnant water they should go to the doctor and take the corresponding antibiotics. Ultimately, whenever you come across a stagnant body of water while exploring, it’s highly recommended to stay away and be extra precautious.
Above, a body of standing water can easily attract gnats and mosquitoes, inviting bacteria and algae, all of which is detrimental to your health.

2024 Gaming Awards Recap: Highs and Lows of the Industry
Tons of surprises, lots of artistic vision, so much fun to play by
Anthony Gjuraj and Eric Villavicencio
The annual Video Game Awards have become a cornerstone of the gaming industry, serving as a grand stage for celebrating achievements in storytelling, innovation, and artistry. This year’s ceremony, held on December 12, 2024, did not disappoint, offering an unforgettable evening of accolades, announcements, and a powerful reminder of the medium’s cultural impact.
The Highlights:
Recognizing the Year’s Best
Topping the night’s honors was the coveted Game of the Year Award, claimed by Astro Bot. Combining an intricate narrative with breathtaking visuals and groundbreaking AI mechanics, the game captured hearts across the world, cementing its place as a landmark title. Its creative director, Nicolas Doucet, gave an emotional acceptance speech, emphasizing the collaborative effort behind the project: “This is not just a game; it’s a labor of love from hundreds of talented individuals.” Other notable winners included Helldivers 2 for best Multiplayer Game, recognized for redefining online cooperative gameplay with its seamless integration of community-driven objectives. Metaphor: ReFantazio won both best Art Direction, as well as best Narrative, astonishing audiences with its hand-painted environments and ethereal soundtrack in tandem with its breathtaking story beats. Meanwhile, indie video game Balatro took home best Debut Indie Game, a testament to the growing power of small studios to innovate.
Why These Games Matter
These games showcase why video games are such a powerful medium, blending entertainment with artistic and social impact. Astro Bot demonstrates how storytelling, paired with innovative mechanics and gameplay, can evoke deep emotional engagement. Helldiver 2 highlights gaming’s ability to cultivate social connection through cooperative play, redefining how communities can interact
online. Meanwhile, Metaphor: ReFantazio proves that games can rival traditional art forms with its unfamiliar yet stunning visuals and evocative soundtrack. Indie successes like Balatro are hallmarks to the innovation smaller studios are capable of, challenging industry norms and showing that great ideas, not budgets, drive gaming’s future.
Beyond the Awards
However, the VGAs are not just about recognizing the past year; they also offer a glimpse into the future. This year featured an array of game reveals that left fans buzzing with excitement. Among the highlights was the first trailer for Eclipse: The Forsaken Realms, an ambitious open-world RPG that promises to push technical boundaries. Additionally, Reclaimer surprised audiences with its announcement as a long-awaited sequel to a beloved franchise, sparking waves of nostalgia.
The growing influence of AI and virtual reality was also a key theme of the event, with developers showcasing how these technologies will shape the next generation of gaming, even exemplified by Oculus Studios’ Batman: Arkham Shadow, which earned the award for best VR Game. From hyper-realistic NPC interactions to fully immersive VR experiences, the thresholds of what is possible in gaming continue to expand.
Cultural Impact
Video games have transcended their origins as mere entertainment to become one of the most influential cultural forces of our time. No longer confined to living rooms and arcades, the gaming industry now shapes the narratives and aesthetics of film, television, music, and fashion. Generating billions annually, it has also established itself as a powerful storytelling medium, often rivaling literature and cinema in its ability to convey complex themes.
The Industries Growing Responsibilities
As video games grow in influence, so too does the responsibility of game developers
and the industry at large. The VGAs (Video Game Awards) 2024 also touched upon the ethics of gaming, particularly in relation to subjects such as microtransactions. Microtransactions in video games are more apparent now than ever before and many credit this towards Fornite’s success with their battle pass, a system where players can earn up to 100 items with a simple purchase of $10. Nowadays these purchases can range from $5 up to $100 which increases the awareness around gaming addiction and potential for exploitation, the industry has begun to take more of a proactive stance on ensuring gamers well being.
In addition, the call for substantial and environmentally friendly practices in game
production was evident at the event, with several winners announcing their commitment to using greener technologies and reducing the carbon footprint of their developmental process.
Looking Forward
The video games awards of 2024 served as a reminder of just how far the gaming industry has come and how much further it can go. As technological advancements continue to evolve and more diverse voices continue to enter the industry, the future of gaming looks brighter than ever. As both an art form and a cultural phenomenon, video games will continue to play a vital role in shaping how we entertain, learn, and connect with each other in the years to come.
Thank the Comic Book Gods: The Reboot of the DC Cinematic Universe
Plagued by bad choices and inept people in charge, the francise, now under new management, is finally looking up by William Tierney
Following Warner Brothers merging with Discovery, WB got a new CEO: David Zaslav. Zaslav is controversial for his decision to cut most WB projects that were being worked on at the time, but he was aiming to save WB from its box office failures.
The DCEU (DC Extended Universe) started off relatively strong in 2013, with the release of Man of Steel. The movie was a darker and more modern adaptation of Superman, that was meant to contrast against the more lighthearted Marvel Cinematic Universe to set them apart. Sadly, the DCEU’s quality was incredibly inconsistent. It regularly swapped between flops like Suicide Squad and Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice (both criticized for having poor writing, and rushing character arcs), to movies like Wonder Woman and Aquaman that regularly get praise to this day for their adaptations of the famous characters.
Notably, the release of a 2017 Justice League movie seemed to be the most divisive in the series. The movie felt rushed, like it was trying to copy the Avengers without setting the proper groundwork like the MCU had. Once it had become clear that the movie wasn’t actually the vision of the original writer Zack Snyder, controversies arose. Some wanted to see Snyder’s plan fully brought to fruition, while others thought he had mis-characterized the famous superheroes to an absurd degree.
The divide in the fanbase made it hard for WB to find who to appeal to. They tried to get the approval of three different audiences: ones who wanted just to have a fun superhero movie, ones who wanted to see Snyder’s vision for the DC characters, and ones who
wanted to see comic book accurate depictions of their favorite characters.
This led to the DCEU falling further off of the wagon. They poorly balanced together movies, all made with different intents and yet the studio interfered with almost all of them to try and appeal to everyone. WB meddled in all of the universe, from movies made by James Gunn that focused less on simple quips in their humor, and rely more on darker jokes often including gratuitous violence, to movies like Shazam: Fury of the Gods that focused more on trying to copy the formula of the more successful MCU.
This culminated in a streak of 5 box office flops in a row: Black Adam, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom.
In order to specifically break DC from its less-than-ideal streak of movies, Zaslav chose to reboot the DCEU to the DC Cinemat-
ic Universe (DCU). He decided to put James Gunn, writer/director of the Peacemaker TV show and of The Suicide Squad (the two most praised DC projects in recent memory), in charge of the DCU.
The legacy of the DC movies puts Gunn in a tight spot, as he has to win back the respect of not only fans who have dedicated their free time (and typically a lot of money) to their favorite comic book characters, but also the interest of the general public.
The DCU has technically already begun with the HBO Max series Creature Commandos, and will continue with the 2025 movie Superman (which released a teaser trailer on December 19th). Further ahead on the slate, a tv-show called Lanterns (focusing on a set of two members of the Green Lantern corps trying to solve a crime) and a movie called Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (based off of a comic book written by Tom King) both
began shooting last month.
He also aims to have more than just your typical superhero action comedy blockbusters. From shows like Lanterns with more of a detective-type story, to movies like Mike Flanagan’s 2026 Clayface horror movie, Gunn is intent to accept any script offered to him as long as it is good enough.
Overall, James Gunn is less focused on trying to recapture the magic that Kevin Feige caught with the intertwined story of the MCU, and is instead focused on creating interesting stories with different tones and settings to truly explore and respect the long history and deep lore of the world of DC Comics. In his hands, we finally have hope.

How to Have a Cozy Winter: Hibernation Season
Despite the seasonal blues, zero temps, and icy surfaces, you can still enjoy staying inside
by Sienna Heim
Winter is in the air!!! Can you feel it? Cold mornings, cold afternoons, cold evenings… well, that about sums up winter: it’s brrrr season! We’ve officially said our farewell to sunny mornings, birds chirping, flowers growing, melting ice cream, sandy beaches… gosh, is anyone else missing summer? Though winter may have its perks, for many people (silently raising my own hand), it’s their least favorite season and brings nothing but gray and gloomy vibes. So, what better way to improve our morale and make winter just a smidge more bearable by embracing the cold and wrapping ourselves in fluffy blankets so that we can have a cozy winter?
When you think cozy, what comes to mind? I know for me, the answer is blankets, pillows, candles, and sleeping in (because that 6 AM alarm and freezing morning frost does not scream cozy). When it comes to being cozy, we focus mainly on comfort, warmth, and relaxation. It is the epitome of what most teenagers strive towards. But, how do you reach it? I’d say dress cozy, but I think most of us already have that aspect covered in the pajamas, hoodies, and slippers that we wear to school. So what other things can we do to become more cozy this winter?
Grab a cozy blanket, it doesn’t need to be one of those fancy faux fur monstrosities that you can get lost, just a simple blanket. Now, get your warm drink of choice - hot chocolate, coffee, tea, anything - and, if you’re

While the film uses the act of eating people as a brutal and visceral way of showing how these characters' desires consume them, love is very similar. Love, like hunger, can be all-consuming as it was for Maren and Lee. They are both drawn to each other because of their emotional connection and understanding of each other, but as their love deepens, there’s a sense that it becomes increasingly impossible to separate their emotional desires from their need for physical connection. In some ways, they feed off each other’s pain, desire, and need for control over their own fates. This blending of love and hunger questions what it means to truly love someone. Is love a pure
hungry, a sweet (or salty) snack. Now, find a cozy spot, this could be anything from your living room or bedroom, to a coffee shop or library, and curl up under your blanket (well, if you’re at a coffee shop, maybe don’t whip out a blanket, that may be a little awkward for the people around you).
For the most important step, and I mean the most important step, turn off all of the big lights. What do I mean by this? Switch off the overhead lights, and only keep on small lamps… and voila! You’ve got yourself a cozy little spot to binge a show, watch a movie, read a book, get some schoolwork done, scroll on your phone, or sleep. But, for some, sitting inside under warm lights and fluffy blankets isn’t how they would describe being cozy. So, let’s brave the cold. Bundle up in a sherpa zip-up, pull on a hat, and take a walk, hike, stroll, or run. Before you go thinking that the cold is not cozy… hear me out! There is something immensely cozy about wrapping yourself in scarves, coats, sweaters, and boots and hearing the crunch of the snow beneath your feet. Every winter break I go to Vermont to visit my grandma, and if you know anything about Vermont, you know it’s cold in the winter (for a visual, when it snows an inch here, it snows a foot there), but despite the frigid temperatures and piles of snow, every morning we go for walks on the
connection, or is it an act of consumption, of taking something from the other person? In the case of Maren and Lee, it’s both. They are both lovers and predators, and their relationship is marked by the constant tension between nurturing each other and devouring each other.
Another key aspect of Bones and All is that it portrays love as a journey rather than a destination. The film doesn’t promise that “love will conquer all” or that the characters will have a traditional romantic resolution: there is no plot amour. Instead, it shows love as a process--one that can be compli-
gravel roads. We bundle up until we look like overstuffed marshmallows ready for battle, and walk the dogs with coffees in hand. Unfortunately for us here in Brewster, there are no gravel roads encased with snow-draped trees sitting right outside our houses. But, we do have beautiful paths sitting all around Brewster, or, if you don’t feel like traveling too far, walk the sidewalks that wind all around your neighborhood. Bring along your dog (am I the only one who has a dog that would much prefer to hibernate all winter?), call up your friends, or go with your family. Not only will you be able to get active, but you will also be able to spend time with friends and family. Trust me on this one! Being outside, when you’re tucked into a warm jacket, with your breath coming out in airy plumes as the snow falls around you is cozy… or I’m the only one that thinks this, but you won’t know until you try it!
to me? There is something so cozy about curling back into your warm bed, sleeping in, making a full breakfast because those last minute I’m-about-to-be-latefor-school-breakfasts were getting old.
If I had to choose the coziest thing in the entire universe of cozy things, it would have to be waking up in the morning to the news of a snow day… back to bed for me! Now, at the time of writing this, we have yet to have a snow day (which is a real tragedy), but maybe February won’t just be the month of love, but the month of snow. My fingers will be crossed!! When that early morning alarm goes off, you turn to the right, look out your window and see piles of snow. It feels like I’m a little kid again, giddy over some snow and the possibility that school will be closed. Does that just happen
cated, painful, fraught with obstacles, but also transformative. This mirrors the real life understanding that love isn’t always perfect or easy, but it is worth pursuing, even when it comes with sacrifice. The love story is not about finding your soulmate, the “one,” in a traditional sense, but rather about discovering who they are through the connection they have cultivated. It’s a love story that evolves with the characters personal growth, and that kind of organic emotional progression is one of the reasons why it resonates so deeply with many of the viewers.
An amazing romance movie like this
School is canceled, now you have all day to do anything. Harness your inner child and pull on some snow pants and go outside to play in the snow… because you’re never too old to build a snowman and make snow angels. Spend the day inside binging a show or watching that movie that’s been sitting in your watchlist for months. You can do crafts, curl up with a good book, organize your closet because you’ve been putting it off for weeks (Am I calling myself out? Maybe…). You can take advantage of the cold weather and treat yourself to a freshly made bed with clean flannel sheets, because those warm, cozy sheets are a staple for winter. Everyone needs to pray to the snow-day gods that we are granted a snow day very soon!
There are so many ways to enjoy winter, despite it being a cold and sometimes gloomy season. Go outside and enjoy the snow crunching beneath your boots, curl up in front of a fire, and so much more! And if you think that you won’t ever be able to enjoy winter, and are counting down the days until you can move somewhere warm and sunny, then think on the positive side: we are halfway through winter (I can see summer on the horizon… I think).
challenges traditional romantic narratives by mixing love with elements of horror and tragedy, making the love story feel deeper, more complex, and more authentic. The rawness of the relationship, the vulnerability of the characters, and the tragic and meaningful beauty of their connection makes it a hauntingly unforgettable tale about love, identity, and survival. It’s a romance that goes beyond the surface of a princess saved by a prince, and explores the more complicated aspects of being a human, providing a more profound love story.

Movie for Last Month
Tick, Tick… Boom! (2021) Tick, Tick… Boom! is a 2021 drama musical about Jonathan Larson (the writer of Rent) starring Andrew Garfield, Alexandra Shipp, and Robin de Jesus. The movie takes place in the time between New Year’s Day of 1990, and Larson’s 30th birthday, a month later. Larson is desperately trying to get his very first musical funded before he turns 30, as he is scared that if he doesn’t, his life will fall to a void of mediocrity. In shorter terms, Jonathan Larson has an existential crisis as he tries to sell someone his high-concept sci-fi musical. This movie has an absolutely stellar soundtrack, amazing acting, and a gut-wrenching plot focusing on themes of mortality and legacy. It’s also directed by Lin Manuel Miranda, who is most famous for writing, directing, and starring in the hit Broadway musical Hamilton

story of the book being the actual story of the movie. The story focuses on Westley (played by Cary Elwes) as he rescues the Princess Bride (Robin Wright) from an old man named Vizzini (Wallace Shawn), his hired strongman Fezzik (Andre the Giant) and his swordsman Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin). The story seems simple when summarized, but each character has their own distinct goal throughout the movie, and the writing is so effortlessly funny that it elevates this simple concept to an alltime classic for anyone to enjoy.

Aries - March 21 to April 20 - This month is a good time to start thinking about your future. Start planning out what you want to do to make you happy, whether that’s following your hopes and dreams or making a lot of money. It’s okay if you don’t have everything planned out because things can change and it’s good to embrace that change. Just make sure you do what makes you happy, don’t do it just to please others.
Taurus - April 21 to May 21 - This month you will be able to branch out, broaden your horizons, and be innovative. You’ll feel more confident in standing up for yourself and what you believe in. This new change is good. Some people may not like it but that doesn’t matter because this is good for you. These changes can also spark new conversations and ideas which can change your perspective and beliefs.

Unexpected connections and pleasant surprises await you this month.
A comedy drama film set during a holiday break in a New England prep school, it’s a Christmas movie, so this is a little late to watch, but it is so absurdly well-written that I feel the need to include it nonetheless. During holiday break in 1970, a handful of students stay behind at the school to be babysat by an old and curmudgeonly history teacher and the school’s head cook. This movie is the best of the movies based around the trope of “found family,” and expresses concepts of loss and identity. Beyond that, the movie is beautifully shot and acted incredibly well. Notably, the main student of the film (Angus Tully) is played by Dominic Sessa in his very first acting role, and he still performs incredibly well. This movie is not only my favorite movie to take place during the winter, it is one of my favorite movies overall.
“Emilia Perez” leads with 13 total nominations, followed by “The Brutalist” and “Wicked” with 10 apiece. “Conclave” and “A Complete Unknown” both stand with a still mighty 8 nominations, followed by “Anora” with 6. “Dune: Part Two” and “The Substance” both settled at 5. At the lower end are “I’m Still Here” (3) and “NIckel Boys” (2). Who will dominate the categories? Will they all share? Who goes home empty-handed? The envelope will open in just a few weeks.
Watch on March 2nd to find out!

Binge-worthy Shows that Will Combat the Winter Blues
Learn to fight off the seasonal darkness by trying some lighthearted fare
by Sam Jameer
By the 1950’s, Television became everyone’s entertainment. And by now, there might just be millions of shows and billions of people watching at all times. But what are some shows that you can really binge without a moment of boredom? Here are my top shows!
If you like to sit back and get a good laugh then this sitcom is for you! Detective Jake Peralta is a talented and ridiculous cop with an arrest record that even surprises the viewer. He has a tendency to go his own way and loop in his friends/coworkers in the process. As we follow in Peralta’s life and flow with him into danger, and sometimes straight out, we meet amazing characters like Charles Boyle and Ray Holt, making you laugh, cry, and then laugh even harder. You will catch yourself emotionally invested in this engaging series of hilarious moments, finding it difficult to tear yourself away.
Don’t like police work? How about watching a relatable and hysterical depiction of what family life feels like! This show is about three families who are interconnect-
ed within their own unique dynamics. The Pritchetts, Dunphys, and Tuckers navigate the ups and downs of modern life with moments of love, laughter, and plenty of awkward moments. Through witty humor and realistic situations, the show explores the complexities of family relationships, from parenting and marriage to sibling rivalry and adoption, all while celebrating the joy of being together. Let’s not leave out the diverse cast, clever writing, and unforgettable characters, Modern Family delivers entertaining, feel-good experiences that resonate with audiences of all ages!
Want something more charming? What about something with witty banter, heartwarming relationships, and small-town charm? Gilmore Girls may be the perfect show! Set in a picturesque town of Stars Hollow, the show follows the close-knit, fast-talking mother-daughter duo, Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, as they figure out life, love, and the challenges of growing up. With quirky characters, emotional depth, and humor that effortlessly blends pop culture references with heartfelt moments, Gilmore Girls is an addictive ride that will have you laughing, crying, and feeling right at home with the Gilmore family. Whether you’re watching for the first time or returning for another round like me, this beloved series, although frustrating, is a cozy mustwatch binge experience.
Cozy and comfortable is nice, but what about something a little more cut-throat? Suits is a fast-paced legal drama that combines sharp wit, high-stakes cases, and unforgettable characters like Louis Litt or Harvey Specter. The show follows talented college dropout Mike Ross, who lands a job as a law associate at a prestigious New York law firm, despite lacking a law degree. With the help of the brilliant yet rebellious Harvey Specter, Mike steer’s his way through the complexities of the legal world while keeping his secret under wraps. Packed with clever dialogue, intense courtroom drama, and compelling relationships, Suits delivers a thrilling mix of legal strategy, personal intrigue, and loyalty, making it another must-watch for fans of smart, suspenseful television.
Gosh, the speed of law is so entertaining, but is it as entertaining as a Telenovela?
Jane the Virgin is a refreshingly unique blend of telenovela drama, heartfelt comedy, and emotional twists. The story revolves around Jane Villanueva, a devout young woman whose life is turned upside down when she is accidentally inseminated during
a routine check-up. What follows is a roller coaster of love, family secrets, and unexpected challenges as Jane balances her unplanned pregnancy with her dreams of being a writer, relationships, and the complexities of her tight-knit, colorful family, all while learning about herself and her history. With a quirky narrator, vibrant characters, and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, Jane the Virgin delivers a charmingly unpredictable take on life, love, and destiny.
Although that’s fun, activism is pretty important, so how about a sense of progression included in a show you can’t help but glue your eyes to? Ugly Betty is a vibrant and touching story about embracing your true self in a world obsessed with beauty and perfection. Betty Suarez, a smart, ambitious young woman with a heart of gold, lands a job at the glamorous fashion magazine Mode, where she’s thrust into a cutthroat industry that values looks over talent. Despite her unconventional appearance, Betty’s determination, kindness, and wit make her a force to be reckoned with. Filled with colorful characters, outrageous fashion, and plenty of side-splitting moments, Ugly Betty is a celebration of individuality, inner strength, and the power of self confidence.
With all these in mind, there are still so many honorable mentions that I wish could be included. Shows like Lost, X-Files, and Felicity are also big pieces of the mustwatch list. With that being said, I hope you enjoy it!
What Are the Celebrity Look-Alike Competitions That Have Taken the Internet by Storm?
Assessing the role of celebrity culture and the risk of parasocialism
by Rae Miller
Stapled across the telephone poles and corners of NYC, posters reading “Timothée Chalamet Look-alike Competition on October 27, 1 pm, in Washington Square Park arch” began to pop up, leaving residents wondering what was to come. Confused individuals made Tiktoks, reels, and posted this to any online media they could, wondering: who created this? Why? Were hundreds of bootleg Timothée Chalamets actually going to show up in Washington Square Park? And most importantly, was Timothée Chalamet going to be there?
Well, their answers were quickly answered, as “there had to be close to 10,000 people who tried to get in,” according to the organizer, YouTuber Anthony Po. Po organized the contest with a mere $250, originally setting the cash prize to $50. While he expected to gather a community through the widespread love of Timothée Chalamet, he was blown away by the sheer amount of people present, exceeding any previous hopes.
However, disaster struck in no time: the event was interrupted by the police, claiming it to be an “unpermitted costume contest” and sticking a $500 fine to the organizers. Forcing its attendees to relocate from the NYC park after a dispersal order, one Timothee was even taken away in handcuffs during the struggle, with video footage surfacing on TikTok not much later. Despite the struggle, Chalamet himself showed up, dressed inconspicuously in a mask and baseball cap, to make a brief appearance for the fans. Despite the police interference, the legality of the situation was not the most troubling, but in actuality, the harmful rhetoric pushed by celebrity culture.
To a point, it’s natural to admire those at higher levels of fame, especially people deemed conventionally attractive. This type of culture isn’t necessarily a new thing, as well. For decades, people have been fawning over their favorite singers and actors, learning snippets of their lives through varied media sources. Although, the level this admiration has reached—now borderline obsession—has spiraled out of control with the emergence of social media. Communities built completely on one person—communities that flourish on unhealthy behaviors— have grown from the ease of connection. Accounts made solely dedicated to celebrities, fictional romance stories drawn up by fans, and even the condoning of stalking and harassment have flourished in online spaces, promoting a false narrative in the minds of fans that they have a connection. While in some instances, a celebrity can care for their fans, there will always be a disconnection. Establishing the idea of a “relationship” with this person creates disappointment when not met, quickly turning obsession into resentment.
Many celebrities have actually addressed this obsession, taking different standpoints on the issue. Some—like singer Chappell Roan—have spoken out against this behavior despite the backlash faced by these fans. In a recent video, she expressed hatred towards obsessive fans after months of harassment, stalking, and felt as though this newfound “love” was suffocating her. While other famous people remain silent, fearing the backlash that people like Chappell Roan have faced despite the harassment they face on the daily.
These look-alike competitions act as a type of extension of the toxic culture pres-
ent online, which impacts the lives of both fans and celebrities. In some ways, yes, they do bring community together, allowing fans to bond over their shared interest. Yet, it is the foundation of the community that is the issue with them: a foundation of obsession and parasocialism.
In many TikTok videos, fans expressed disappointment in hearing that celebrities did not show, claiming that they hold little care for anyone other than themselves. But the fact is, these people do not owe us anything. They are strangers, individuals
leading their own lives. To treat them as if they have a responsibility falsely establishes a relationship that simply does not exist. These competitions also paint celebrities as a larger-than-life figure, hosting competitions as if they were rituals of worship. To idealize anyone to this level, no matter how unserious it may seem at the moment, has consequences. Celebrities are still human: they are flawed, they can do wrong, and these competitions only push the rhetoric prioritizing blind admiration emphasized in celebrity culture.

Bear Facts Musical Profiles Presents: ¿Quién es Rauw Alejandro?
by Sophia Morales Urrutia
Hottest Album of the Month - SOS, by SZA
Is it worth sending out a signal of excellence or is this SOS in need of saving? by Megan Pawlowski
What songs are the best?
How good is the album-score?
With all the popular hits of this year, I’m glad to be reviewing one of the most popular albums of the month.
This month, I will be covering one of the hottest albums, SOS, produced by SZA
“SOS” - Rating: 6/10
It’s a good song; she’s great at rapping, the background music hits, and it has a great beat but it lacks her great vocals.
“Kill Bill” - Rating: 9/10
I have always liked this song since it came out during the end of 2022. Despite it being a little psycho themed, it is always such a great song to jam to. From a musical perspective; the beats, the vocals, and the flow are all fantastic and mesh nicely together.
“Seek & Destroy” - Rating: 8/10
Her vocals are a bit redundant since she keeps singing the same vocals over and over, but besides that, the song is really good. The music and her vocals are really great, and I really appreciate that she’s following the beat.
“Low” - Rating: 9/10
Personally, I think this is such a great song to listen to at the gym. When you’re in the midst of working out, this song hits so well and has a great beat.
“Love Language” - Rating: 8/10
Love the opening guitar, the beats flow great with her, and don’t overshadowing her vocals. But I don’t think putting that filter over her voice later in the song was the best decision.
“Blind” - Rating: 5/10
To be factual, this song is not great. The lyrics, the flow, and even her vocals don’t make the song stand out. The only reason why it has a 5/10 is because of the beat.
“Used” - Rating: 7/10
Her vocals are amazing in this song and really show off her talent as a singer, but there is a lack of consistency and it keeps going on vocal runs. But overall, it is a great song and Don Toliver was a great choice of rapper for this piece.
“Snooze” - Rating: 10/10
I’m definitely biased on this song because I listen to it daily. Typically every morning before coming to school, I’ll listen to this song, and it helps put me in such a good mood.
“Notice Me” - Rating: 7/10
Don’t get me wrong, the song is a really good piece, but she overdoes it with her vocal runs which doesn’t mesh well with the beat. But besides that, her voice, the beat, and the background music are all great.
“Gone Girl” - Rating: 9/10
The beat and her voice mesh well together, and she even adds harmonies which make it so much better. However, when she’s not in the chorus, her vocals are a little redundant but not enough to take off points.
“Smoking on my Ex Pack” - Rating: 6/10
To be honest, it’s not a bad song; the majority is rap and the flow is great. However, it feels like the making of this song was rushed. There’s potential, but she didn’t deliver.
“Ghost in the Machine” - Rating: 7.5/10
The techno beats mesh well with her voice and her vocals help elevate the song. Even when she adds in harmonies, it makes all the aspects of her music enhanced. This is definitely a song that I would listen to in the future.
“F2F” - Rating: 7/10
The guitar and drums work well together and create a really fun beat which helps make her lyrics/vocals really catchy. However, the chorus kind of sucks. But everything besides that is really great.
“Nobody Gets Me” - Rating: 10/10
The guitar is such a nice intro into the song, such a great transition. But everything (the vocals, the guitar, the tone of her voice) is so beautiful. Such a great heartfelt song- she should definitely do more songs like this.
“Conceited” - Rating: 10/10
I’m personally not huge on rap, but this song is definitely the best one that I have ever listened to. The beat, the flow, the tone, the lyrics: everything works so well together. I definitely did just add this to my Spotify list.
“Special” - Rating: 9/10
I love this song. It’s a beautiful heartfelt piece that ties into insecurities and the feeling of being unloved. I would say she could have added more musical elements like piano to help her musically. But despite that, it was very nice.
“Too Late” - Rating: 9/10
The guitar in the intro is such a good decision: it leads right into the beat, and SZA just takes control. She stays on beat, creates a great flow, and her vocals are on point. But when she gets to the chorus, she adds more techno beats than necessary. She could have added a heavier guitar or just left it as it was prior. However, I do want to say it wasn’t a bad choice; I’m just saying that she could have done it differently.
“Far” - Rating: 10/10
This is another rap song in her album which sits super closely (or even ties) with “Conceited.” She adds more vocals to this one, which shows off her impressive voice.
“Shirt” - Rating: 10/10
I still remember listening to this song while doing dishes. I truly love this song, a mix of rap and regular plain singing. The hit of the
beats mesh so well with her lyrics/voice and makes the song super catchy. Her vocals really are highlighted in this song and show off her talent as a singer.
“Open Arms” - Rating: 10/10
The guitar buildup is such a good choice. The guitar, the harmonies, and her vocals hit so well. Even with the techno beats and drums, everything is super simple yet highlights her talent so well. I definitely recommend giving this song a listen.
“I Hate U” - Rating: 8/10
Her vocals are great, but it doesn’t compare to the last few that I have rated.
“Good Days” - Rating: 10/10
This song gives me so much nostalgia, and it always makes me smile. It always reminds me of the summer time, or at least summer nights out with friends. This song will always remain a #1 on my list of favorite songs; the beats, the chords, and SZA’s voice is so beautiful in this piece.

Music Reviews: Sweep Away the Christmas Songs and Get Ready for a New Year
by Emma Derrell
Here are my reviews of the top 10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week of January 4, 2025. Currently, the Top 10 is dominated by Christmas songs, and since this issue will be coming out after Christmas, I’ve chosen to review the Top 10 Non-Christmas songs on the Hot 100.
1) “Die With A Smile” (Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars) - Once past the infiltration of Christmas songs, this is the first most popular song on the Hot 100 right now. A pretty typical pop ballad overall, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga harmonize so well it’s easy to look past the rather mundane lyricism.
2) “Luther” (Kendrick Lamar & SZA)“Luther” is an easy, relaxed duet between two of the biggest hitmakers right now. The string instruments and vocal layering gives this song a particularly dreamy-quality that especially stands out in the context of Lamar’s album GNX, which has a lot of fastpaced tracks.
3) “Birds Of A Feather” (Billie Eilish)With shimmering instrumentals, it’s easy to mistake “Birds Of A Feather” as another pretty love song. But with a closer look, you’ll notice her haunting lyrical imagery of graves, caskets, and a body turning blue. Kind of like classic fairy tales, which we remember for their descriptions of magic and castles, but are actually quite dark and disturbing.
4) “TV Off” (Kendrick Lamar featuring Lefty Gunplay) - I have some mixed feelings about this track. There’s just so much going on, from the remixed sample of Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” to the prolonged scream, to the cluster of horns. On their own, each of these are interesting additions to a song, but together, the effect is overwhelming. As a result, the other unique samples featured in the melody are overlooked.
5) “That’s So True” (Gracie Abrams)The upbeat acoustic nature of this song reminds me of early 2010s folk-pop hits, like “Little Talks” by Of Monsters and Men. While Abrams’ unsteady vocals might be seen as a lack of skill, there is something charming about a singer who just belts out a song, voice cracks and all. That said, I have heard this song many, many times, and I’ve still yet to decipher the story Abrams’ is trying to tell us through her lyrics.
6) “APT.” (ROSE & Bruno Mars) - Yet another Bruno Mars collaboration on the chart! This time with Rosé, who continues her signature bubblegum-pop sound in “APT.” Minimally produced and reliant on a steady drumbeat, this song feels more organic compared to a lot of pop music. It’s a welcome break from overly-produced songs that seem to use every instrument available just because they can.
7) “Taste” (Sabrina Carpenter) - To my surprise, “Taste” has moved past “Espres-
so” on the charts. The wittiness Carpenter demonstrates on her other songs isn’t nearly as present here. And for a song about getting revenge on an ex-partner’s current lover, she doesn’t sound vengeful—at least not enough to make a lasting impression.
8) “Squabble Up” (Kendrick Lamar)“Squabble Up” is an upbeat and danceable song that’s sure to be a hit at future parties and dances. My favorite part is the sample of the 80s electro song “When I Hear Music” by Debbie Deb. It’s a small detail, but it really adds character to an otherwise standard beat.
9) “30 For 30” (SZA & Kendrick Lamar) - “30 For 30” has the same dreaminess of “Luther,” though a bit more emotionally-charged. Lamar and SZA have the kind of voices that can really sing anything together and still sound good. It’s an easy song to get swept away in, thanks to the dramatic percussion and the variety of string instruments used.
10) “Espresso” (Sabrina Carpenter) - It may be a new year, but Sabrina Carpenter’s breakout hit of 2024 still lingers on the chart. While I’ve personally grown tired of this song, I will admit that Carpenter’s smooth nonchalance has the potential to capture listeners for generations to come.
New Additions to Your Winter Playlist to Get Cozy and Warm Up To
Spotify? Pandora? Apple? Amazon? You pick the delivery: we’ll provide the substance by Vanessa Mazzei
While the winter months bring cold weather, the right music can warm your soul and bring out the quiet beauty of the season. Grab your favorite blanket, press play, and let the music carry you through this season! Don’t forget to add your own winter favorites to your new winter playlist.
“Another Life” - SZA
“Another Life” is one of SZA’s standout tracks included on her new album, SOS Deluxe: LANA. As with all of SZA’s music, this song does not disappoint. It has a catchy flow and fun beat, making it an instant favorite. The lyrics express the desire for a different outcome of a relationship that didn’t work out, encapsulating the hope for “another life” where things might have ended up differently. With its introspective lyrics and beautiful rhythm, “Another Life,” in every life, is a hit.
“Wintering” - The 1975
As its title suggests, “Wintering” is a fitting addition to any winter playlist. The song captures the joys and stresses of the holiday season, making it a fun listen as you reminisce about recent festivities, or simply enjoy its upbeat rhythm. The song has a similar sound to the 1975’s usual music, with their typical fun beat.
“Cardigan” - Taylor Swift
I had to include a few songs for all my Taylor Swift fans out there. If you’re a fan, you probably already know this song, but you might need a reminder of its perfection. If you aren’t familiar, I would recommend giving this song a listen. It has a different vibe than some of her other pop music, much like the rest of the album it is on, folklore, and is a perfect song for a winter afternoon when you’ll need a cardigan to keep warm!
“How to disappear” - Lana Del Rey
This song is a perfect fit for any fall playlist. It has a mellow vibe that matches the crispness of autumn. The lyrics capture that feeling of change and longing that comes with the season. It has a cozy, nostalgic feel which is comforting during these fall months. This song is perfect for a walk admiring the falling leaves.
“Bags” - Clairo
“Bags” is a deeply emotional song that explores the complexity of unspoken feelings, with a side of percussion and guitar. Clairo’s delicate vocals showcase lyrics which capture longing and confusion in a relationship. The subtle production adds to the song’s atmosphere with dreamy guitar riffs and drums. “Bags” is a perfect song for reflective winter nights.
“Yellow” - Coldplay
This beautiful song can fit any season, but its warmth and tenderness makes it especially comforting in the winter. Singer Chris Martin said about the song, “That song is about devotion. That’s just about somebody throwing themselves in front of a car for somebody else.” Its warm, hopeful guitar and mesmerizing lyrics create a masterpiece with which you must grace your ears.
“High and Dry” - Radiohead
This song’s melancholic tone and soothing guitar make it a perfect companion for quiet introspective winter moments. Its emotional depth resonates well with the nature of this season, and it’s another song with guitar that stands out.
“White Winter Hymnal” - Fleet Foxes
With its vivid imagery and haunting harmo-
nies, “White Winter Hymnal” captures the essence of winter. The rich, layered vocals evoke a serene winter landscape in listeners’ minds. To top it off, the gentle guitar adds an extra layer of warmth, perfect for these chilly days. Overall, the song is a beautiful and immersive listening experience.
“Ripples” - Beabadoobee “Ripples” combines a dreamy, atmospheric sound with introspective lyrics, making it ideal for a calm winter day. Beabadoobee’s stunning, delicate vocals make all of her songs special, and “Ripples” is no exception.
“Heavy” - The Marias
The smooth, ethereal sound of “Heavy” by The Marias is perfect for peaceful drives, winter nights, or walks in the snow. Its dreamy production and soft vocals wrap listeners in a warm embrace. Whether you’re gazing at a winter landscape or simply winding down at the end of the day, “Heavy” sets the perfect tone for a quiet winter night.
“Till There Was You” - The Beatles
With its joyful melody and heartfelt lyrics, “Till There was You” expresses the power of love. It’s a reminder that having someone you really love in your life can completely alter your perspective, turning average moments into something beautiful. The warmth
and optimism in the song make it an ideal choice now more than ever.
“Maine” - Noah Kahan
Noah Kahan’s “Maine” has a warm, folksy vibe that feels cozy and comforting during the colder months. The acoustic melodies, powerful humming, and heartfelt lyrics create a perfect soundtrack for winter. I especially enjoy the long guitar intro. The line “I want to go to Maine” is relatable on a deeper level, capturing the longing for a simpler, more peaceful place amidst the chaos of life. Especially in the winter, we all find ourselves wishing for an escape, making this song a perfect addition to your playlist.
“No. 1 Party Anthem” - Arctic Monkeys
The Arctic Monkeys always deliver the perfect soundtrack for winter (maybe because “Arctic” is in their name), with their calm voices, melancholic guitar, and foot-tapping beats. “No. 1 Party Anthem” strikes the perfect balance between cool and calm, with a laid-back sound that’s both soothing and fun.
“Let it Happen” - Gracie Abrams
“Let it Happen” is my personal anthem for 2025. With its calming yet empowering sound, it captures the spirit of letting go and embracing what the future brings. While the song could be seen as surrendering yourself to a relationship, I interpret it as learning to control what you can and let the rest fall into place. Gracie’s introspective lyrics and soothing production are stunning, and the outro is especially powerful, with the line, “Whatever happens, I’m letting it.”
“Rivers and Roads” - The Head and The Heart
This song has meaningful lyrics about growing up and apart from those you love, and getting used to this adjustment. It serves as a reminder that even in moments of sadness, there’s beauty in our shared experiences and the growth that comes from them. Seniors will definitely get a good cry out of this one, seeing as we have recently entered 2025, their graduation year. The beautiful harmonies are another unique aspect of this song. While the overall message is somewhat sad, it is perfect for a quiet walk outside or cozy moments spent indoors.

Everything You Need to Know About the 2025 Grammy Awards
Highlights of who won and who went home empty-handed
by
Olivia Jones
The 2025 Grammys was a night for the history books especially because the event was not only about celebrating music but also focused on raising money for fire relief foundations for the tragic LA fires, something so many people there were dealing with directly. Their efforts brought funding and awareness to those who needed it and was a theme throughout the evening.
Without further ado, here is your condensed guide to the 67th Grammy awards. Beyoncé made headlines leading the nominations with a total of 11, bringing her career total nominations to 99. Some new nominees this year included rising star Chappell Roan, as well as Sabrina Carpenter, who had 6 nominations each.
The night began with a performance from Dawes which included a background band of John Legend, St. Vincent, Sheryl Crow, Brittany Howard, and Brad Paisley. They sang Randy Newman’s song “I Love L.A.” with the lyrics changed to reflect the wild fires that LA just endured. Then Billie Eillish and Fineas took the stage with a performance of Billie’s hit song “Birds Of A Feather.” After that, Sabrina Carpenter performed a mashup of her songs “Espresso” and “Please, Please, Please.” It was quite the opening!
Then the first award of the night was presented. That award, best rap album, was a very fully talented category with the nominations being Might Delete Later by J. Cole, The Auditorium, Vol. 1 by Common & Pete Rock, Alligator Bites Never Heal by Doechii, The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) by Eminem, and We Don’t Trust You by Future & Metro Boomin. This award was taken home by Doechii for her album Alligator Bites Never Heal and was the third woman to ever win this category.
Afterwards, Best Pop Vocal Album was awarded with the nominees being Short n’ Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT by Billie Eilish, eternal sunshine by Ariana Grande, The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess by Chappell Roan, and THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT by Taylor Swift. This award went to the ever deserving Sabrina Carpenter.
Following that, Olivia Rodrigo took center stage to introduce her good friend Chappell Roan, who made her Grammy debut with a show stopping performance of “Pink Pony Club,” which began with Chappell sitting on her very own giant pink pony.
The Grammy for Best Country Album was presented by previous winner of this category Taylor Swift. The nominees were as follows: COWBOY CARTER by Beyoncé, F-1 Trillion by Post Malone, Deeper Well by Kacey Musgraves, Higher by Chris Stapleton, and Whirlwind by Lainey Wilson. This award was won by Beyoncé for her album COWBOY CARTER.
Then, almost every artist nominated for best new artist sang, starting with Khruangbin, who sang their song “May Ninth.” After that, Benson Boone performed his hit song “Beautiful Things” and, of course, did his signature backflip on stage. Yet another nominee, Doechii, performed her song “CATFISH.” As if that wasn’t enough, Teddy Swims sang his hit song “Lose Control.” Then Shaboozey gave us an awesome mashup performance of “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and “Good News.” After, RAYE performed her song, “Oscar Winning Tears.”
The Grammy for best new artist was next presented. This was probably the most competitive category this year with the nominees being Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, Khruangbin, RAYE, Chappell Roan, Shaboozey, and last but not least Teddy Swims. The extremely hardworking and deserving Chappell Roan won this award after she initially blew up last year for her song “Hot To Go” and then her whole album The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess climbed the charts.
Following that, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars performed “California Dreaming” paying more tribute to the beautiful city of LA. Much to everyone’s surprise, The Weeknd then took the stage after publicly stating he

was permanently boycotting the Grammys, performing a song from his new album called “Cry For Me.” He was joined by Playboi Carti for their song “Timeless.”
Jennifer Lopez came out next to present the Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album, and the nominees were as follows: Funk Generation by Anitta, El Viaje by Luis Fonsi, GARCÍA by Kany García, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran by Shakira, ORQUÍDEAS by Kali Uchis. The award was given to the well deserving Shakira.
Following that, a group of artists paid tribute to Quincy Jones, a producer and composer who passed away last November. Cynthia Erivo, Will Smith, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Lainey Wilson, Jannelle Monáe and Jacob Collier all performed a medley of Quincy Jones’ biggest hits, including “Fly Me To The Moon.”
SZA then came out to present the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with the nominees being “us.” by Gracie Abrams feat. Taylor Swift, “LEVII’S JEANS” by Beyoncé feat. Post Malone, “Guess” by Charli XCX & Billie Eilish, “the boy is mine” by Ariana Grande, Brandy & Monica, “Die With A Smile” by Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars. And of course, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga took home this award for their smash hit “Die With A Smile.”
Chris Martin and Grace Bowers then took the stage to honor all the people we have lost in the music industry this year including the late Liam Payne, John Mayall, Toby Keith, Sandra Crouch, Jack Jones, Ella Jenkins, and Richard Perry, to name a few.
Record of the Year was a hot category this year, with the nominations including “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” by Beyoncé, “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter, “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar, “Now And Then” by the Beatles, “360” by Charli XCX, “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” by Billie Eilish, “Good Luck, Babe!” By Chappell Roan, and finally “Fortnight” by Taylor Swift feat. Post Malone. While all of these nominees are incredibly deserving of this award, it ended up going to Kendrick Lamar for “Not Like Us.” Shakira came out next to perform a song from her new album after a seven year music hiatus. Following that, Queen Latifah honored 17 time Grammy award winner Alicia Keys with the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award. After that Charli XCX took center stage with a performance of multiple songs from her album Brat.
The Grammy for Song of the Year was awarded afterwards, and the nominees were as follows: “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey, “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” by Billie Eilish, “Die With A Smile” by Lady Gaga,

Bruno Mars, “Fortnight” by Taylor Swift feat. Post Malone, “Good Luck, Babe!” by Chappell Roan, “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar, “Please Please Please” by Sabrina Carpenter, and “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” by Beyoncé. Kendrick Lamar won this category.
Album of the Year, which was presented by members of the LA County Fire Department, was a big toss up this year with so many amazing albums being nominated. They were as follows: New Blue Sun by André 3000, COWBOY CARTER by Beyoncé, Short n’ Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter, BRAT by Charli xcx, Djesse Vol. 4 by Jacob Collier, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT by Billie Eilish, The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess by Chappell Roan, and finally THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT by Taylor Swift. It was given to Beyoncé for COWBOY CARTER, and she accepted this award with her daughter Blue Ivy by her side.
In my opinion, the greatest performance was RAYE’s performance of Oscar Winning Tears, with the emotion in her vocals being unmatched. And the most deserved award was by far Chappell Roan winning Best New Artist. All in all, the Grammys was a night full of great performances, unfair wins (cough cough Beyoncé), and emotional tributes to LA.

The long and winding road to the Super Bowl!
Are the Chiefs Going to Three-peat This Year?
Despite the odds, the Eagles are ready to give them a run for their money
by Kaitlin Whalen
It’s time for Super Bowl 59! This article was written throughout the course of the NFL playoffs about my overall opinions, reactions, and predictions leading up to the Super Bowl, which is happening on February 9th.
The Super Bowl is a tradition that is loved by fan bases nationwide. The Super Bowl is when two teams from the NFL face off to see who will be the final champion at the end of every season. It is also a fun time to gather, eat junk food, and enjoy all of the funny commercials and halftime show with family and friends!
The Playoffs
In the NFL, there are 13 teams that make it into the playoffs each year. This year, Wild Card Weekend was not only exciting, but wild, to say the least. From the 2024 season, The Houston Texans, Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders, Baltimore Ravens, and Los Angeles Rams, were the teams that moved on. Finally, the Kansas City Chiefs joined in because they had the best record in the entire NFL overall giving them a bye week over the wild card games. Then, the Divisional weekend games were held on January 18th and 19th. Eight games were played in the span of these two days. Four teams came out on top. The Chiefs beat the Texans 23-14 which wasn’t much of a surprise since the Chiefs have a record of 15-2. The Texans have played pretty well
this year overall though! In another game, the Commanders were the underdogs, but they surprisingly beat the Lions, an extremely good team this year by a score of 45-31. Then, we had the Bills beat the Ravens 2527 which was really exciting to watch all the way to the end. And finally, the Rams lost to the Eagles 22-28.
The Final Four
Now to decide who’s playing in the Super Bowl. As we go into the final four teams next week, two games will be played on Sunday January 26th. Which is when we will find out if my predictions were correct!
As we went into the final two games before the Super Bowl, we need to remember that anything could happen in the playoffs. This was just my prediction of what will happen and should be taken lightly. The first game played was the Eagles vs the Commanders. The Commanders were the underdog team in the playoffs, although they have been doing very well. They very well could have easily been a force to be reckoned with going into this game. The Eagles have been good all year long and had something to show going into this game. They had a better chance than the Commanders, who have demonstrated success in previous years. With their undeniable success, they ended up not having much to show for it, considering their unfortunate loss two years ago against the Chiefs. For my prediction on
the first game, I think that the Eagles will end up being the winners over the Commanders. Could this be the year they finally win the Super Bowl? We’ll see if I’m right very soon! The second game seems a bit familiar since these same two teams faced each other in the final four game last year. In my opinion, I believe that if any team were to beat the Chiefs in the playoffs it would be the Bills. The Bills have been great this year and have one of the best chances of making it to the Super Bowl. Obviously, I still wouldn’t count out the Chiefs because of their standing as the overall champions both last year and the year before in 2023. Let’s see if we’ll have a new champion this year or if the Chiefs will be back to claim their title for the third year in a row. Since the Chiefs and the Bills are playing against each other for the second time at the final game before the Super Bowl, it will make it just as exciting as last year. Which was already an electric game. Both teams are even better this year so it will be an eventful watch. I want to take a risk because I believe that the Bills will beat the Chiefs in a very close match in quarter four.
It’s Super Bowl Time!
Alright Brewster, it is now the week after the Super Bowl was decided. The two teams that are officially going to the Super Bowl are the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. We saw these two teams face off in
Super Bowl 57 when the Chiefs won in a crazy game with a score of 35-38. In my honest opinion we can probably expect a similar ending to this Super Bowl. I believe that the Chiefs will win in another close match. It is projected that Mahomes will help take his team to the third victory in a row, which would be the first occurrence in NFL history. It is also possible that we can see a lot from Travis Kelce who has been a star ever since he joined the team for many reasons, some would even argue that he is one of the best wide receivers in history. This might be one of his last seasons in the NFL since he is starting to get older, so a push for another win is most likely on his wish list.
Although, the Eagles are still in the Super Bowl for a reason: they have shown major perseverance and determination throughout the season to make it back to a point where they have a major chance to win. Their Quarterback Jalen Hurts, has been a major key to their success. Since this is Saqon Barkley’s first time in the Super Bowl, he deserves to play on the biggest stage and the most important time. Can Saqon, Jalen, and the rest of the team get a ring for Philly? I guess we’ll just have to see. By the time this article is out, we might will already know who won the Super Bowl. So make sure to tune in and see if I was correct - Chiefs with a 3 point spread! Pass the chips!

How the Giants Lost Barkley and May Have Altered the Super Bowl
The most recent “Offensive Player of the Year” is now a Super Bowl champion his first year away from the Giants by
Roderick Cassidy
February 9th will not only mark the day of Super Bowl LIX, where the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs will face off for the NFL title, but also the birthday of the Eagles’ new superstar: Saquon Barkley. After capping one of only 9 individual seasons in NFL history where a player has clocked 2000+ rushing yards in the regular season, Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles seek to beat the Kansas City Chiefs for Super Bowl glory. Just a year ago however, Barkley finished his 6th season with the then 6-11 New York Giants. Since having been selected by the Giants in the 2018 NFL Draft 2nd overall, the Giants had only won one playoff game, despite Barkley’s multiple 1000+ yard seasons up to that point. Although he was riddled with injuries throughout his time in New York (which hampered his ability to produce more consistent and team-altering performances), it was undeniable that Barkley was a cornerstone of the Giants.
However, as the 2024 Free Agency period approached, the Giants decided to let Barkley go into free agency (where all teams in the league were able to give contract offers to Barkley), where he was eventually signed by the Giant’s divisional rivals, the now Super Bowl bound Philadelphia Eagles.
But why did the Giants let go of Barkley?
With the Giants unable to settle a deal during the offseason with Barkley in 2023 and 2024, the General Manager of the Giants Joe Schoen allowed for Barkley to “test the market” of free agency, with a potential offer in return that would match the interest he would receive. However, when all was said and done, the Philadelphia Eagles were willing to offer a $37.5 million/3 yr. contract, which Saquon accepted. It seems strange looking back that the Giants organization was not willing to offer Barkley more money to remain in New York, so why were the Giants unable to meet Barkley’s demands?
In basic terms, Schoen’s spending philosophy is based on the idea of positional value. While many of the NFL’s top paid players are quarterbacks, (with the top 14 contract values of current NFL players being quarterbacks), running backs such as Barkley are not paid nearly as much. This is due to the idea that a team’s ability to pass is able to produce more scoring than their run game, running backs are more injury prone due to the high work rate and physicality of the position, and there are many more viable and serviceable RBs than found in other positions on the field. With that in mind, Schoen and the Giants front office were much less willing to dish out a large contract over Barkley, who also had past injuries and was reaching the age of 27 (regarded as
the peak year of production for elite running backs). With hindsight being 20/20, we now know that QB Daniel Jones was unable to meet expectations for his eventual $160 million/4 yr. contract, eventually being released from the Giants. However, the Giants’ front office at the time believed that Jones had the potential to become a reliable QB1 if surrounded by the right players, especially based off of his notable leading of the Giants to a playoff berth and shock Wild Card victory over the Minnesota Vikings in the 2023 playoffs.
As captured in HBO’s documentary series Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants, Joe Schoen stated in a discussion about contract priorities that “[we’re] paying Daniel Jones $40 million [a year]” with his new contract, so it made much more sense for the Giants to “upgrade the offensive line” rather than “hand the ball off to a $12 million [a year] back” in the form of Saquon Barkley. With the funds saved in not signing Barkley to a lucrative contract, the Giants would be able to spend more of their salary cap on their offensive line and
Formula 1 Recap - So
receiving options, which would in theory elevate the level of the Giants’ offense if Daniel Jones were to have had a breakout season. And since dependable running backs get paid much less than dependable quarterback play in the NFL, the Giants would also be able to purchase running backs that would support a serviceable run game with any remaining cap space. This logic eventually led to the signings of many Offensive Linemen, alongside the pickups of RB Devin Singletary, WR Isaiah McKenzie, and drafting of WR Malik Nabers with their 6th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Although we now know that the Giants went 3-14 with their revised squad, it’s important to note that Barkley alone wouldn’t magically turn the Giants into a playoff contender, nevertheless to the extent that the Eagles are performing right now. The main explanation as to why Barkley had such a breakout season this year is the quality of his current squad. Already a consistent playoff qualifier since 2021, the Eagles possess arguably the best Offensive Line in the NFL, while the Giants are within the bottom 10 of
most consensus Offensive Line rankings (a crucial part of a team’s run game). Alongside incredible production from the Eagles’ passing game, Barkley has had many opportunities for large and explosive run plays, such as his statement 60-yd touchdown in the first play of the NFC Championship game vs. the Commanders, which eventually mounted to a 55-23 victory, with Barkley recording 3 TDs on the day.
With Barkley currently leading odds in winning Offensive Player of the Year through his 2000+ yard rushing season, and the future of the Giants remaining bleak post-Barkley, it is reasonable to be frustrated with some decisions the NY Giants have made as an organization. In hindsight, however, the departure of Barkley from NY football was inevitable. Due to the NFL’s current player economics system, alongside the organizational management and priorities of the New York Giants, Saquon Barkley has had one of the greatest seasons by a running back in the history of the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles. All we can do now this Super Bowl Sunday is witness what unfolds before us.
Much Drama On and Off the
Racing Track
Controversial Red Bull seat, six new rookies, and a battle till the last second for the Constructors Championship by
Zoe Juncaj
The end of the Formula One season saw more twists and turns than that of the race track. The introduction of six new rookies along with a polarizing driver change which was finalized with a suspenseful final race that would determine the constructors champion down to just a few points. At the end of the season and the beginning of the off-season, we saw many drivers say farewell to the grid and many say hello. These hellos included six new rookie drivers, which is the most the grid has seen since 2010. These new rookies include Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes), Liam Lawson (Red Bull), Oliver Bearman (Haas), Isaac Hadjar (Racing Bulls), Gabriele Bortoleto (Kick Sauber), and Jack Doohan (Alpine). Liam Lawson has seen experience in the past two Formula One seasons after taking over for Daniel Ricciardo when he was injured in the 2023 season and when he formally departed in the 2024 season. Oliver Bearman has also had some experience in Formula One in this past season when he filled in for Carlos Sainz due to emergency surgery and for Kevin Magnussen when he was suspended
for a race weekend. However, despite these short stints in Formula One, all six of these drivers will be complete rookies. This brings both challenges and excitement for the sport with the chance for six young and upcoming talents to have a shot at making their dreams a reality, and also the weight of possible mistakes as they enter the highest level of Formula Racing. With the youngest rookie being Andrea Kimi Antonelli at only eighteen years old, I can’t wait to see what these six drivers’ futures hold.
The future of the second Red Bull Formula One seat has been speculated on since last season. There have been articles theorizing who people thought it would be given to. Would Daniel Ricciardo reclaim the seat he left in 2018 or would it be given to Yuki Tsunoda after multiple years with their junior Formula One team? However, once Ricciardo (who has been Tsunoda’s teammate for the past two years) was officially replaced by Liam Lawson before the Austin grand prix, it was clear that he would not take over the second seat. It was down to Lawson and

Full-Time Highlights Presents: The European Soccer Season So Far
Our latest and newest column hugs the line to bring you all the latest in the sport by Kevin
Reyes
As it’s the end of January, we’re currently halfway through the season of European soccer, meaning the January transfer window is open and league cup finals are being played. In this first addition of FullTime Highlights, we’ll be seeing all of this and much more.
We’ll start by looking at the various finals that have been played so far, such as the Trophée des Champions, a game in which PSG played Monaco where finally after 92 minutes in extra time, PSG’s Ousman Dembélé scored to win the final. Statistically PSG were favored, having more possession of the ball, more passes, better pass accuracy (more than double Monaco’s shots and shots on target), and more corners taken.
Another great final played was the SuperCoppa Italiana played between Inter Milan and AC Milan. The two rivals produced a great match with an even greater comeback from AC Milan. From being two goals down by 47th minute, AC Milan came back to score three goals, ending the game 3-2 with AC Milan winning. The scorers of that game were Lautrato Martinez, and Mehdi Tarmei from Inter Milan, and for AC Milan it was Theo Hernandez, Christian Pulisic, and Tammy Abraham. Statistically Inter Milan were greater in shots, possession, passes, pass accuracy, and corners, although ultimately it was AC Milan who won.
Clásico” final between these two giants, with the final score being 5-2 with Barcelona winning. The scorers of that match for Barcelona were Lamine Yamal, Roberto Lewandoski, Raphinha, Alejandro Balde, with Wojciech Szczęsny getting a red card, and the scorers for Real Madrid were Kylian Mbappe and Rodrygo. Statistically both teams were close, although Barcelona were playing a man down. Yet Real Madrid had more shots and corners, while Barca had more shots on target, possession, passes, and pass accuracy. Overall this Clásico was a very entertaining final, having 7 goals and many fouls.
Moving on to a very talked about final is the Supercopa de Espana between Barcelona and Real Madrid, being an “El

Tsunoda. Yet, once the checkered flag was raised, there had not been a formal announcement. We knew that they would have driver tests and see how each one performed in the car before making their decision. Now, to be clear, I believed and still believe that Yuki Tsunoda deserved to be in the Red Bull seat. He has proved himself over the last four seasons and I feel that he deserved to be given the opportunity. However, that is not what happened. Just a few short days later, Red Bull announced that Liam Lawson would be driving alongside Max Verstappen. Now there have been speculations that Tsunoda was not given the seat due to his relation with Honda. Honda has been supporting
Although January signals the halfway mark of the season, it’s also an opportunity for clubs to strengthen their weakness or fill gaps due to poor performances or injuries. Some confirmed transfers this January vary from many well-established players trying to find a new challenge or from players who are unhappy with their situations at their clubs. These transfers included Khvicha Kvaratskelia to PSG from Napoli for 70 million euros, Donyell Malen leaving Borussia Dortmund to Aston Villa for 25 million euros, and Thiago Almada leaving Botafog on a loan to Olymique Lyon. Others were Abdukodir Khusanov to leave Lens for Manchester City for about 33.5 million euros, Victor Reis to Manchester City from Lens for about 40 million euros, Trevoh Chalobah being recalled from loan going back to Chelsea from Crystal Palace, with it being believed that Manchester City reached a verbal agreement with Egyptian player,
Tsunoda since he was a part of the Honda Formula Dream Project back in Formula 4. Honda has been Red Bull’s engine supplier for quite some time despite leaving and then returning to Red Bull in 2022. However, it was confirmed that Honda would be officially leaving Red Bull to power the engines of the Aston Martin team come 2026. This makes many believe that Tsunoda could be making a shift to become the second driver of the Aston Martin team and why Red Bull passed over him for what in my opinion was a very well deserved promotion.
Throughout the past season, the race for the World Driver Championship sped up between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen. Norris had started to slowly catch up to Ver-
Omar Marmoush.
This January has shown that many clubs have already found new players to improve their squad, but what about the possible transfers? These are some of the rumors or possible transfers: Victor Gyokeres from Sporting has interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Napoli are keen on Alejandro Garnacho, and AC Milan are close to signing Kyle Walker from Manchester City and no longer want Marcus
Rashford from Manchester United. Both Spurs, Aston Villa, and Juventus are interested in Tomori.
We’re only a few weeks into this season, and a lot has happened with even more possibilities ranging from the Champions league, Europa league, Conference league, the start of La Liga MX and MLS with even more possible signings. With this being said, this concludes Full-Time Highlights. Olé, Olé, Olé!
stappen over the 24 weekend calendar and fans were excited to see who would come out on top. When Verstappen had a never before seen drive in Brazil to bring him back from 17 all the way up to first it was clear that the World Drivers Championship would just be out of Norris’s grasp. This is when we all turned to look at the Constructors Championship. McLaren looked to be set up for their first Constructors win since 1998, but their season rival Ferrari was not going to go down without a fight. However, when the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix grid was set and Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri took 1st and 2nd place it seemed almost impossible that Ferrari would be able to make up the 21 points. Yet this is when disaster for the McLaren team struck. Piastri spun around the first corner and had a collision with Max Verstappen which earned Verstappen a ten second penalty. This crash did not take Piastri out of the race
completely but it did push him all the way down into the back of the grid. It became clear that as Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc moved into 2nd and 3rd position that it was on Lando Norris to finish the race in pole position to secure his team the win. And that is exactly what he did. Norris led the race from the beginning and set a fast race pace that opened up a gap between him and the rest of the grid that no one had a chance of closing. This was crucial for his team and ended up being what secured him the win. The youngest driver pairing on the grid, one of whom was not even born before his team won their last constructors are the two who ended Red Bull’s two year supremacy. Norris was heard speaking to his team that “Next year’s going to be my year, too,” and as a McLaren fan I can’t wait to see what the team does next.

New Look to the “Bear Essentials” and “Filling in the Blanks” Food
It’s a new year, and the Career Skills program food pantry has a new look!
Thanks to the amazing work of the BCSD Facilities Staff and BHS Custodial Staff, the BHS Career Skills food, hygiene and cleaning supplies pantry has a new look. The wall in room 105 has been removed and the shelving and storage areas were moved to make the room more efficient for packing bags that are delivered weekly to students and families in need.
The BHS Interns unloaded two pallets of food and stocked all of the shelves in order to be back in business the first week in January! The space has also provided the opportunity for more students working during a class period, giving all of the students in the Career Skills Program the training and skills needed to create a very successful and productive environment.

have packed approximately 125-135 food bags per week from their “Filling in the Blanks” pantry and approximately 55 bags a month from their “Bear Essentials pantry.”
With this new construction now completed, the students can enjoy their supermarket-like room and navigate it much smoother, making packing and delivering that much more enjoyable!
