Emergence II was commissioned to be the permanent sculptural centrepiece of the new public piazza at Harbour Central, and is one of the most important recent additions to public sculpture in the UK in 2019.

“Cast in bronze, the work has intensely textured surfaces flled with pictograms and inscriptions and combines timeless themes of the origins of humanity with contemporary regeneration. The inscriptions include the Hebrew word ‘Adam’ as the work references the Biblical fgure.
The frst man, Adam, is literally made out of earth. With this sculpture I want to dramatise the connection of man and the earth, to show humanity born from the ground. That is why I inscribed the word Adam in Hebrew on the work, because it means earth as well as man. In a sense Adam was a sculpture before he was a human being”.
