Local voters will have the opportunity to meet the candidates running for Contra Costa County Supervisor for District III on Wednesday, May 25, at the Discovery Bay Community Center, 1601 Discovery Bay Blvd. All six candidates - Steve Barr, Diane Burgis, Doug Hardcastle, Wade Harper, Odessa Lefrancois and Monica Wilson - will attend the event, which is sponsored by the Discovery Bay Chamber of Commerce and The Press newspapers. The event begins with an opportunity for the public to meet the candidates at 7 p.m., followed by the

forum at 7:30 p.m. Guests can submit questions to the candidates during the event. The event is free to the public and all eligible voters are encouraged to attend. The county supervisor election will be held on Tuesday, June 7. If none of the candidates receives 51 percent of the vote, then the top two vote getters will have a run-off election in the general campaign on Tuesday, Nov. 8. he recently completed Highway 160 and Main Street gateway sign and landscaping project included the restoration of the unimproved areas between the Highway 160 off-ramp and the Main Street interchange, seen when entering into the City of Oakley. This project enhanced these areas by clearing the existing dead trees and vegetation and installing new irrigation, large oak and sycamore trees, shrubs and plants to create an attractive entrance into Oakley. In addition to the new landscaping, a Gateway Monument sign was installed as the highlight of the new, featured entrance.

In addition to the two new stations, the eBART component of the project will also see a transfer platform put up after the Pittsburg-Bay Point station, currently BART’s easternmost location. This is due to the fact that the trains from there on out will rely on units powered by diesel fuel to transport passengers, as opposed to the electrical rail systems that run existing BART infrastructure.

“People shouldn’t get the idea that this will be any less productive (than) other services provided by BART … the only difference is the way the cars will be moved,” emphasized Ramirez, though he did add that there’s a possibility the rails could become electrified in the future.
