Italian inventor and engineer Guglielmo Marconi developed, demonstrated and marketed the first successful longdistance wireless telegraph. In 1901 he broadcast the first transatlantic radio signal from the UK to Newfoundland in Canada.

Marconi received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his radio work in 1909 which he shared with Karl Ferdinand Braun. He opened his first factory in Chelmsford in 1899 which expanded to a new purpose built factory in 1912, providing 6,500 m2 of production space equipped with the latest tools and laboratories. The site is credited with being the world’s first purpose-built radio factory, giving Chelmsford the claimed title “the birth place of radio”.

Over the years we have grown and we now offer our clients many different solutions but our core focus is still instant communications. Brentwood Communications is passionate about helping people and their organisations to do this more effectively and efficiently. BRENTWOOD HISTORY From humble beginnings in 1975, Brentwood Communications was the brainchild of Norman Miller, who began supplying and repairing two way hand-held radios from his shop in Brentwood. In 1980 Brentwood won its first major contract to

supply a radio communications system for the Thames Barrier. Today James Miller heads up the multimillion pound company from its headquarters in Chelmsford, supplying radio communication solutions to multiple industry sectors.

The radio initiates an alarm sequence when it senses an abnormal vertical tilt, or lack of motion for a pre-defined time.

The lone worker feature requires the radio user to press their push to talk button (on the side of the radio) at pre-determined intervals. If they still do not acknowledge they’re OK (again within a set time), an emergency alarm will alert their colleagues or controller. 28
