Curating Your Family Story program is a multi-generational Jewish heritage journey where participants – this year from Congregation Shearith Israel (6th Grade) - explored their Jewish family roots, genealogy, traditions, and stories. Our own Curating Your Family story winner Benjamin Rudisch won 3rd place overall for English Speaking Countries! Go Ben!!!
Benjamin's statement...
"Jews have survived by many means, including hiding, supporting fellow Jews, maintaining a spiritual identity, and even deception (as I discovered by interviewing family). My project connects my mother’s family history as Soviet and Russian Jews to my father’s family’s role in helping Refuseniks just like my mom.
The jail cell represents how Jews throughout history have been physically, spiritually, and emotionally imprisoned by being denied the ability to live Jewish lives—just like the Refuseniks. If you put on the special glasses I made, you can see hidden messages that all have a special meaning to my family"
