Giovanni Bottesini (1821–1889) war als Kontrabass-Virtuose international tätig. Für seine Konzerte schrieb er sich sein Repertoire selbst. Hier überwiegen kürzere einsätzige Stücke, in denen der Spieler sowohl eingängige Melodien als auch brillante Passagen findet. Für die vorliegende Ausgabe ging der Herausgeber auf die Autographe zurück, die sich in der Bibliothek des Konservatoriums in Parma befinden. Zu einigen Stücken liegen Or­chesterpartituren bzw. Streicherstimmen vor. Sie belegen, dass Bottesini diese Kompositionen auch mit Orchesterbegleitung aufführte. Die vorliegende Ausgabe notiert den Solopart in der heute üblichen Kontrabass-Notation. Der Klavierpart ist dabei in der für den Kontrabass gebräuchlichen Solo-Stimmung Fis–H–E–A eingerichtet.

Double-bass virtuoso Giovanni Bottesini (1821–1889) was at home on concert stages at home and abroad. He com­ piled his own repertoire by writing his own pieces, which were mostly rather short and in one movement. Today’s soloists will enjoy the tuneful melodies and brilliant passagework. While preparing the present edition, the editor consulted the autographs that are now housed in the library of the Parma Conservatory. Some of the pieces are also filed with orchestral scores or string parts. This confirms that Bottesini performed these works with orchestral accompaniment as well. The present edition notates the solo part in the double-bass notation customary today. The piano part has been arranged for the solo tuning F sharp–B–E–A that is common today.
