The individual works are sorted by genres and themes to facilitate the program selection for choral conductors and enable the usage of the collection as a basic repertoire for choral singers. The original notational image was preserved to allow the parallel use of the single editions that are still available separately.

Vorwort Die Reihe Breitkopf & Härtel Chorbibliothek fasst zum ersten Mal nahezu alle lieferbaren Einzelausgaben für Chor aus 300 Jahren Verlagsgeschichte zusammen. Diese Sammlung in zehn Bänden, die zum Verlagsjubiläum 2019 vollständig vor‑ liegen wird, soll einen Überblick über das aktuelle Repertoire geben und zur Wiederentdeckung von weniger bekannten Werken anregen. Dabei wurde das originale Notenbild beibe‑ halten, um den Bibliothekscharakter der Bände zu betonen und die Einheitlichkeit mit den Einzelausgaben zu gewähr‑ leisten, die weiterhin separat unter den jeweils genannten Ver‑ lagsnummern (ChB, EB und PB) erhältlich sind. Auf diese Weise können Chorleiterinnen und Chorleiter die Bände zur Repertoireauswahl und erweiterung benutzen, um die ent‑ sprechenden Stücke anschließend in Chorstärke zu bestel‑ len. Alternativ ist auch eine Nutzung des Bandes durch den ganzen Chor möglich, der damit stets ein gut sortiertes Basis‑ repertoire griffbereit hat. Das umfangreiche Verlagsprogramm für gemischten Chor erscheint in der Chorbibliothek in zwei Teilen: Der erste Teil, das weltliche Repertoire, umfasst drei Bände, der zweite Teil mit dem geistlichen Repertoire nimmt fünf Bände ein. Das weltliche Repertoire wurde für eine bessere praktische Anwen‑ dung in zwei Bände mit unbegleiteter Chormusik und einen Band von Werken mit Instrumentalbegleitung, hauptsächlich Klavier, unterteilt. Der Schwerpunkt des Verlagsprogramms liegt hier wie schon beim Repertoire für Frauen und für Män‑ nerchor auf der Epoche der Romantik. Ein Großteil der Werke

stammt daher von den großen Chormusik‑Komponisten dieser Zeit: Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy und Robert Schumann. Spätere Komponisten schließen Max Reger, Johann Nepomuk David und Kurt Thomas, aber auch Einojuhani Rautavaara und Siegfried Thiele ein. Als Kompo‑ nistinnen sind Fanny Hensel und Clara Schumann vertreten. Der erste Band der weltlichen Chorwerke unterteilt sich in fünf Abschnitte, welche gewissermaßen die großen Themen‑ bereiche romantischer Chorkomposition abdecken: Liebes‑ lieder, Jahreszeitenlieder, Naturlieder, Spaß- und Tanzlieder sowie Ernste und Patriotische Lieder. Dabei gibt es naturge‑ mäß Überschneidungen, sodass sich manche Naturlieder auch als Liebeslieder ausdeuten lassen oder etwa die Jahres‑ zeitenlieder letztlich auch Natur- und Liebeslieder mit einem speziellen jahreszeitlichen Bezug sind. Hier wurde für eine bessere thematische Einordnung versucht, die Stücke nach dem Jahreskreis zu sortieren. Nur der vierte und der fünfte Abschnitt sind relativ unabhängig – mit Orlando di Lassos Landsknechts-Ständchen und Siegfried Thieles Reklame enthal‑ ten sie jeweils das älteste und das neueste Stück der Samm‑ lung. Preface The series Breitkopf & Härtel Choir Library compiles almost all available single editions for choir from 300 years of pub‑ lishing history for the first time. This collection of ten vol‑ umes, which will be completely available at the publishing company’s anniversary in 2019, is intended to give an over‑ view on the current repertoire and to encourage the rediscov‑ ery of lesserknown works. The original notational image was preserved to emphasize the “library”character of the volumes and to ensure the consistency with the single editions that are still separately available by the respectively mentioned pub‑ lishing numbers (ChB, EB and PB). This way, choir conduc‑ tors can use the volumes for the selection and expansion of their repertoire before ordering the respective single editions for the whole choir. Alternatively, the choir can also use the volume itself to have a well‑sorted basic repertoire at hand. The enormous range of publications for mixed choir is published in two parts in the Choir Library: The first part, the secular repertoire, comprises three volumes; the second part with the sacred repertoire takes up five volumes. For a better practical use, the secular repertoire was divided into two volumes with unaccompanied choral music and one vol‑ ume of works with instrumental accompaniment, mostly pia‑ no. The focus of the publishing house’s program is on the Romantic era here, just like in the repertoire for women’s and men’s choir. The majority of works was therefore composed by

the great choral composers of this period: Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Robert Schumann. Later composers include Max Reger, Johann Nepomuk David and Kurt Thomas, but also Einojuhani Rautavaara and Siegfried Thiele. As female composers, Fanny Hensel and Clara Schu mann are represented. The first volume of the secular choral works is separated in five sections which cover the great subject areas of Romantic choral composition, so to speak: Love Songs, Seasonal Songs, Nature Songs, Songs of Jest and Dancing as well as Serious and Patriotic Songs. Naturally, these sections overlap in parts so that some nature songs might also be understood as love songs or that the seasonal songs are actually nature and love songs, only with a specific seasonal reference. For a better the‑ matic classification, a sorting of the pieces according to the se‑ quence of seasons was attempted here. Only the fourth and the fifth section are relatively independent – with Orlando di Lasso’s Landsknechts-Ständchen and Siegfried Thiele’s Reklame, they include the oldest and the newest piece of the collection, respectively.
